The uninvited guest: Chinese sub pops up in middle of U.S. Navy exercise, leaving military chiefs red-faced

American military chiefs have been left dumbstruck by an undetected Chinese submarine popping up at the heart of a recent Pacific exercise and close to the vast U.S.S. Kitty Hawk - a 1,000ft supercarrier with 4,500 personnel on board.

By the time it surfaced the 160ft Song Class diesel-electric attack submarine is understood to have sailed within viable range for launching torpedoes or missiles at the carrier.

According to senior Nato officials the incident caused consternation in the U.S. Navy.

The Americans had no idea China's fast-growing submarine fleet had reached such a level of sophistication, or that it posed such a threat.

One Nato figure said the effect was "as big a shock as the Russians launching Sputnik" - a reference to the Soviet Union's first orbiting satellite in 1957 which marked the start of the space age.

The lone Chinese vessel slipped past at least a dozen other American warships which were supposed to protect the carrier from hostile aircraft or submarines.

And the rest of the costly defensive screen, which usually includes at least two U.S. submarines, was also apparently unable to detect it.

The incident, which took place in the ocean between southern Japan and Taiwan, is a major embarrassment for the Pentagon.

Type 039 Song Class Diesel-Electric Submarine

This is reported to be the submarine which succeeded in penetrating the US Navy's exercises and getting within attack distance of the Kitty Hawk without being detected. Being diesel-electric, it is far quieter than a nuclear boat, and it is apparently covered with a rubber sound-absorption coating developed by the Russians which makes this submarine invisible even to the US Navy's whale-killing super-sonar.

Finally unearthed after 4,000 years, the Peruvian fire temple

ARCHAEOLOGISTS in Peru have unearthed what may be the oldest temple in the Americas, built about 4,000 years ago by a relatively sophisticated culture.

Italians Fight for the Right to Love Black Cats

Black cats get a bad rap, particularly in Italy where they are popularly associated with evil. Now in an effort to disassociate these maligned felines from superstition and stop an estimated 60,000 annual cat killings, Italy is to hold its first national Black Cat Day.

An Italian animal protection organization estimates that Italians kill 60,000 black cats every year.

Black cats symbolize different things in different cultures and countries, but in Italy the black cat is all bad, all the time. Traffic is wont to stop suddenly while motorists wait for a black cat to finish crossing the road, and Italian men have been known to make the sign of the cross with one hand and cover their private parts with the other to ward off the supposed evil of a passing cat.

As part of a feline image makeover, an Italian animal protection group has organized a celebration to be held Saturday in large Italian cities including Milan and Rome. The events are aimed at countering this societal prejudice and will include art exhibitions celebrating black cats, outdoor bring-your-own-black-cat gatherings and picnics, and award ceremonies for people who have protected black cats.

Voice of the White House for November 16th 2007

Last year, it was discovered that an unknown sniper had fired at the windows of the Oval Office. The rifle bullet did not penetrate the bullet-proof glass but a small crater in one of the window panes gave this away. No one on the White House roof (where there is permanent party stationed to thwart any aerial attacks on the building) heard a thing so it was suspected that a silenced weapon was used. An intense investigation failed to disclose the location of the shooter and they were not even certain when the sniping took place.

Terror crackdown: Passengers forced to answer 53 questions BEFORE they travel

Travellers face price hikes and confusion after the Government unveiled plans to take up to 53 pieces of information from anyone entering or leaving Britain.

For every journey, security officials will want credit card details, holiday contact numbers, travel plans, email addresses, car numbers and even any previous missed flights.

US plans new space weapons against China

The Pentagon is spending billions of dollars on new forms of space warfare to counter the growing risk of missile attack from rogue states and the "satellite killer" capabilities of China.

Congress has allocated funds to develop futuristic weapons and intelligence systems that operate beyond the Earth's atmosphere as America looks past Iraq and Afghanistan to the wars of the future.

Yahoo Acknowledges Role in Arrest of Chinese Dissidents

US Internet giant Yahoo has repeatedly come under fire for its close collaboration with China's communist regime. This week it acknowledged responsibility for the arrest of dissidents and moved to settle a case brought against the company by two Chinese journalists serving 10-year prison sentences.

Video shows BC police tasering immigrant within seconds

Day rebuffs call for full national review of Taser use

Polish Man Tasered to Death by RCMP at Vancouver Airport

On Oct 14, Robert Dziekanski, a ... all » Polish immigrant flying on a plane for the very first time in his life, landed at Vancouver International Airport.

Roughly 10 hours later, he lay dead on the floor of the airport lounge.

Tasered to Death by the RCMP! - The Story of Robert Dziekanski

The video also shows that only 25 seconds had elapsed from the moment that the RCMP officers entered the scene and Mr. Dziekanski lay unconscious on the floor.

They simply walked up to him, exchanged a couple of words (even though they had been warned that the man spoke 'NO ENGLISH') and then began to taser him.

This is NOT going to help tourism.

Newfoundland Constabulary halts Taser use

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary has suspended its use of Tasers, following a fatal incident at Vancouver's airport.

FBI reviewing Tasering of sleeping man; no charges file

Sooooooooo, let me see if I have this correct. Two cops enter this guy's home, and find him sleeping on the couch. They taser him. Hell of a way to wake up. Then he shows them ID that proves he does live there and the cops taser him AGAIN. And no charges are filed against the cops.

That about sums it up?

ÉCONOMIE

****Is China Blackmailing America?

China now controls 44% of America's foreign debt. (Over the last couple of years Russia, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and our other allies around the world stopped buying our debt bond issues. China stepped up to the plate and bought when everyone else was selling. Almost single-handedly China has kept the dollar solvent in order to protect their balance of trade.) Beijing's threat to dump debt bonds was as much a threat to the tough talk from Sen. Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party as it was to the Bush Administration to keep the Federal Reserve and the US Treasury in check.

Parents Must Immunize Their Children Or Go To Jail

VIDÉO

1,600 school children and their parents have been ordered to appear in circuit court this Saturday where health workers will immediately force them to receive required shots. Parents who don't bring their children to court for the shots are to be jailed.

We don't actually know what is in these injections.

It is not so long ago that these injections included thimerasol, a form of mercury.

More than 4 million Iraqis displaced since U.S.-led invasion

According to UN estimates, more than 4 million Iraqis have been displaced since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003. Refugees' advocates call it the fastest-growing humanitarian crisis on the planet, deteriorating more quickly than Myanmar (also known as Burma) or Darfur.

More than 2 million have fled the country entirely, with most finding temporary asylum in the Middle East while they apply for permanent status in nations such as the U.S.

Israel's demand to be recognized as Jewish state roils preparations for Annapolis

An Israeli demand that Palestinians recognize Israel as a Jewish state lies at the heart of the latest crisis to upset preparations for an upcoming Mideast peace conference.

But the Palestinians think offering that recognition would imply they are dropping one of their key demands in any peace deal — a solution for Palestinian refugees who lost their homes after Israel's 1948 creation and for their millions of descendants. Israel opposes a return of refugees, for fear they would eventually outnumber the Jewish majority.

It appears that Olmert & Company have been playing Secretary Rice for a fool.

Since she has put so much geopolitical weight (as well as her own professional reputation) on the line for a positive outcome for this conference, the very carefully constructed timing for the statement of this Israeli demand could well make this conference a non-starter.

Part of this may have well have been an Israeli move to deligitimize Rice in Bush's eyes, pushing him more closely into the arms of the ever carnage-prone Cheney, who never met an Israeli act of genocide against the Palestinian he didn't love.

IRAQ OIL TO BE SHIPPED TO ISRAEL

Your taxes, your kids, Israel's oil.

Such a deal!

Mazuz OKs cuts to Gaza's electricity

The Justice Ministry on Thursday confirmed that Attorney-General Menahem Mazuz has approved in principle a plan to reduce the supply of electricity to the Gaza Strip in retaliation for Kassam attacks, on condition that the flow is not completely cut off at any time and that residents are given ample warning to forestall any possible humanitarian crisis.

We'll see what Israel's definition of "ample warning" will be.

Will it be minutes? Ten minutes?

Maybe a half hour into a 3 hour surgery, with a patient on the table in the middle of an operation?

Christians in Jerusalem want Jews to stop spitting on them

A reminder to Christian Zionists that your support for Israel is NOT reciprocated. Christians are treated just like Muslims in Israel.

Israel training intensively for nuclear strike on Iranian nuclear plants

With no alternative but to fight fire with fire, the Israel Air Force is training for a tactical nuclear strike on Iranian nuclear production facilities. As hope fades for a diplomatic solution to Iran's development of enriched uranium for production of weapons with the primary purpose of destroying Israel, the IAF is practicing for a mission to destroy key Iranian facilities, at least one with low-yield nuclear munitions, the Times of London reported.

Hold it.

Iran is building power stations, which it is allowed to do under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty which the United States and Iran (but not Israel) have signed. Under the NNPT Iran has the right to produce their own fuel rods.

Nobody has found any proof that Iran is doing anything other than building a power station. They do not have a weapons laboratory hidden underneath their reactor (unlike Israel, which has a no-longer-secret weapons plant underneath the reactor at Dimona). The IAEA has declared that Iran is not making weapons.

So, Israel is getting ready to carry out an unprovoked attack on another nation using nuclear weapons of mass destruction.

Which is ironic, because that is the VERY crime Israel is claiming Iran is supposed to be planning. (On appelle ça de la projection de nos désires sur autrui en psychologie)

But in the end, Israel is the aggressor. If they carry out this plan, they will join the United States as the only nations to actually use nuclear weapons of mass destruction against other countries.

Israel, in her cultural paranoid delusion, cannot admit that they are alone in creating clandestine weapons laboratories underneath reactors. For Israel to be comfortable with her own deceptions, she must believe that every other country is doing the same. So, in her paranoia, Israel bombed the Oseric reactor in Iraq, which turned out to be a power station and nothing more. Now Israel wants to bomb Iran's power station. and after they do, who will be next, because it is obvious that Israel is in a total state of denial over the facts on the ground at Oseric, and in Iraq in general. No amount of proof will ever convince Israel that her paranoid fantasies are not real, and she will go on bombing other countries with nuclear weapons until somebody who really DOES have nuclear weapons will put a stop to it.

Israel promises to use "Baby Nukes" on Iran..Honest, we do

As for Israel saying that the nukes used would be only 1/15th of the power of the Nagasaki nukes, to that i say BS. Israel plans on using much larger nukes than the ones in this article. When they are used and blow to hell a portion of the ME, Israel will say "We told you so!!! Iran was making nukes. That's what triggered this much more massive devastation. It was Iran's fault, not ours!!!" "Put the blame on Iran, they made us do it."

Israeli legislature votes to seize East Jerusalem

The Israeli Knesset (Parliament) gave preliminary approval on Wednesday to a bill that would seize East Jerusalem, in contravention of international law and UN resolutions, and make it part of Israel.

Resolution 250: " . . . 'calls' on Israel to refrain from holding military parade in Jerusalem".

Resolution 251: " . . . 'deeply deplores' Israeli military parade in Jerusalem in defiance of Resolution 250".

Resolution 252: " . . . 'declares invalid' Israel's acts to unify Jerusalem as Jewish capital".

Resolution 267: " . . . 'censures' Israel for administrative acts to change the status of Jerusalem".

Resolution 271: " . . . 'condemns' Israel's failure to obey UN resolutions on Jerusalem".

Resolution 298: " . . . 'deplores' Israel's changing of the status of Jerusalem".

Resolution 476: " . . . 'reiterates' that Israel's claim to Jerusalem are 'null and void'".

Resolution 478: " . . . 'censures (Israel) in the strongest terms' for its claim to Jerusalem in its 'Basic Law'".

Israel is now in defiance of the United Nations; the very excuse given for the attack on Iraq.

Israel slams IAEA for 'failing to expose' Iran ambitions

"Only anti-Semites can't see the Iranian's new clothes, er, nukes!"

(ahem)

Many men who cheat on their wives assuage their feelings of guilt by convincing themselves that their wives are also having affairs, and deflect questions about their own actions by accusing their spouses of the ill behavior they themselves are guilty of.

Psychiatrists have a term for this called "Projection". And it happens to nations as well as people.

Israel knows it has been clandestinely building nuclear weapons of mass destruction underneath Dimona. Israel knows that the rest of the world knows (or at least suspects) Israel's immoral behavior. So Israel assuages its feelings of guilt by imagining that every other nation is doing the exact same thing, and hurling accusations at other countries of the crime Israel is itself guilty of.

Just as there is no amount of evidence that will convince the cheating husband that his wife is faithful, there is no amount of evidence that will convince Israel that Iraq or Iran is not building nuclear weapons. Indeed, the cheating husband will decide that the well-meaning friends supporting his wife are all part of a "plot" to deceive him, just as Israel, rather than facing the truth, accuses the IAEA of "failure" to see what Israel believes to be obvious.

Psychiatrists have a term for this as well called "Paranoid Delusion".

And from Paranoid Delusion to Psychotic Break is a short step indeed, and worrisome when the "patient" has nuclear weapons.

Russia readies nuclear fuel

Russia's state-run nuclear fuel producer said inspectors from the United Nations' nuclear watchdog would later this month start sealing nuclear fuel bound for the Bushehr plant, a major step to shipping the fuel to the Bushehr plant in Iran.

The 26th is one week from next Monday.

If there is a US/Israeli strike against Iran, striking after Iran's nuclear facilities after they have been fueled will mean death and devastation for the entire region, with fallout drifting back through Central Asia, and ultimately Russia.

China deals blow to Western efforts to punish Iran

China has dealt a blow to Western efforts to increase diplomatic pressure on Iran over its nuclear programme by droppingout of a meeting to discuss tougher sanctions against Tehran.

The US knows, particularly after the very public support demonstrated for Iran and Amedinejad by Russia and China, that they will not get these countries to budge in the direction of stiffer sanctions.

The goings on at the UN right now are just pro forma, as in "oh well, we tried to pursue a diplomatic solution, but it wouldn't work."

But Russia has just ratcheted things up by stating that they are going to start the process of getting fuel delivered to the Iranian reactor starting the 26th of this month.

So at this point, American policy makers have to decide if living with a nuclear Iran is worse than going into a head-to-head military conflict with Russia.

Truly logical people understand the answer,to this question in a heartbeat.

Senior general: Turkey on verge of cross-border operation

"We are now in the process of implementing a cross-border operation," which "will be a heavy blow to PKK camps in northern Iraq," General Ilker Basbug, head of the land forces, was quoted as saying.

Should it happen, this will get very ugly.

free | Behind closed doors

In Egypt today an oppressive regime is imposing draconian measures upon its people. It is depriving citizens of their freedom and flying in the face of judicial sanction. And all the while, the vast majority of western governments, observers and civil organisations remain mute. The silence that has greeted this assault on human rights and democracy is deafening. Anyone with a genuine interest in bringing justice and freedom to Egypt should bring all possible pressure to bear - both through words and actions.

Unfortunately, there is little said about Mubarak's regime in the west because, again (as has been Musharraf, Hussein, Noriega, the Shah, et at) Mubarak is a thug, but he is the US's thug.

Next to Israel, Egypt is the second largest recipient of foreign aid.

And of course, not much of this aid actually trickles down to the Egyptian people. So what the US has "purchased" with its aid money has been stability at the price of the aspirations, and desperate economic needs, of most of Egypt's citizens.

But this cannot, and will not, continue forever.

CBS: 'Stunning' veteran suicide rate is twice that of non-veterans

CBS News has now completed a five-month study of death records for 2004-05 which shows that the actual figures are "much higher" than those reported by the VA. Across the total US veteran population of 25 million, CBS found that suicide rates were more than twice as high as for non-veterans (according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, suicide accounted for 32,439 deaths in 2004).

U.S. deserters lose bid for Canada refugee status

Look for the US military to throw the book at these two very publicly, after having - at least temporarily - lost momentum with the Watada case.

US Army desertion rates rise 80 percent since 2003 Iraq invasion; highest rate since 1980

After six years of war in Afghanistan and Iraq, American soldiers are deserting their posts at the highest rate since 1980. The number of US Army deserters this year shows an 80 percent increase since the United States invaded Iraq in 2003.

They know this war is illegal and immoral.
