U.S. papers shed 5,900 journalists in 2008

American daily newspapers cut 5,900 newsroom jobs in 2008, according to a survey from the American Society of News Editors.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The corporate media will whine and point fingers at the blogs, but the truth is that most political and news blogs would not exist if the media had done their job and reported the truth about what was going on with the government.

WRH would not exist if the corporate media had reported on the evidence I handed them proving that the FBI fraudulently manufactured Lisa Foster's recognition of the gun found with her husband's body. The evidence consisted of the FBI's own records and I handed this story, a story about a possible murder committed inside the White House itself, free of charge to NBC's Los Angeles News department, and was told (off the record) that anyone touching that story would be fired.

That was the reason I started my political web page which eventually became WRH, and frankly, it has been a huge cost and a pain in the ass most of the last 16 years.

But now time has caught up with the corporate media. As the general public comes to understand the extent of the US Government lies and the degree to which the corporate media aided and abetted those lies, people are turning to the blogs to get that which they cannot find at ABCNNBBCBS; the TRUTH!

So the liars are finally getting fired, and who will really mourn their fall?

Not me. I wish they had done their @#%ing job in the first place.

Instead of Bailing Out Mainstream Newspapers, How About Bailing Out Real Journalists?

Congress is again making noises about bailing out the newspaper industry.

But the mainstream papers - other than a select few, such as McClatchy - were largely cheerleaders for the Iraq war, and covered up (or - as in the case of the New York Times - delayed for a year so the story would not effect elections) crimes like illegal spying on Americans.

Instead of bailing out lapdogs for the government and mouthpieces for the wealthy, how about giving seed money to alternative journalists who actually report the news without pulling punches?

WACO - Who Shot First?

Contrary to the image of a dangerous gun nut put out in the media in an effort to justify the burning of the church, official BATF records prove that David Koresch was rather harmless, so much so that the BATF agents invited him to go shooting with them just 9 days before they raided the church. Koresch supplied the ammunition. The BATF agents allowed Koresch to try out their weapons.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Sunday, April 19th, is the 16th Anniversary of the day the United States Government gassed a church full of women and children to death with a poison gas that is illegal to use in warfare.

The government claims the church members started the shooting. The photos prove otherwise.

The Oklahoma City Bombing - What was the Army doing with a Ryder Truck just before the Murrah blast?

The Tea Party movement could be an anti-GOP brew

Webmaster's Commentary:

But, but, but, yesterday you were telling us the tax protesters were all right-wing neo-nazi GOP extremist fanatics!!!!!!!!!!

(Ahem)

Obviously the size of the tax protests took the government by surprise, and they are still continuing their pathetic attempt to transform the issue of excessive taxation and misappropriation of tax money into a partisan issue, to turn us against each other to save their own sorry asses.

What is amazing is the large number of useful idiots in the corporate media willing to play along!

Tax Day Becomes Protest Day

Today American taxpayers in more than 300 locations in all 50 states will hold rallies -- dubbed "tea parties" -- to protest higher taxes and out-of-control government spending. There is no political party behind these rallies, no grand right-wing conspiracy, not even a 501(c) group like MoveOn.org.

So who's behind the Tax Day tea parties? Ordinary folks who are using the power of the Internet to organize.

"Tea" protests flood America

Hundreds of anti-tax 'tea parties' have been held all over the US by protesters who think Obama's bank bailout and stimulus package are mortgaging the future for an easier present.

WE NEED A REVOLUTION - NOT TEA PARTIES

That's like saying we don't agree with your oppressive, unconstitutional despotism of our nation and to show our ire in no uncertain terms we're going to break public law and disrupt the peace so take that, nah- nah-ne-boo-boo. But don't worry because we'll put everything back when we're done as if nothing happened cuz we don't want any trouble!

Webmaster's Commentary:

Nobody doubts that a crisis is coming. But beware of letting government plants tell you where and when to turn violent, because if you let the enemy decide the field and the timing, you have already lost.

Leaderless resistance, non-violent non-cooperation, forcing the dictator to act like one where all the world can see it; these are the tools by which tyrants are brought down.

Conspiracy Theorists Were Right All Along!

The Department of Homeland Security is warning "law enforcement officials" (jackbooted criminal types) about a rise in "rightwing extremist activity," but a footnote in this report by the Homeland Security Office of Intelligence and Analysis defines rightwing extremism as "including not just racist or hate groups, but also groups that (don’t miss this part) reject federal authority in favor of state or local authority." If I’m interpreting this correctly, this report is going after anyone who dares to question federal authority.

How Obama Is Using the Science of Change

The key guideline was a simple message: "A Record Turnout Is Expected." That's because studies by psychologist Robert Cialdini and other group members had found that the most powerful motivator for hotel guests to reuse towels, national-park visitors to stay on marked trails and citizens to vote is the suggestion that everyone is doing it. "People want to do what they think others will do," says Cialdini, author of the best seller Influence. "The Obama campaign really got that."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Which explains today's Gallup Poll that everyone LOVES the income tax, and the exhortations from the corporate media that the depression is over and "everyone" is buying stocks!

Sales of Guns and Ammo are Shooting Up

Purchases of guns and ammunition are surging across the country. Nearly four million background checks -- a key measure of sales because they are required at the purchase of a gun from a federally licensed seller -- were performed in the first three months of 2009. That is a 27% increase over the same period a year earlier, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

No one knows exactly what is behind the gun-buying craze. Some buyers say they are stocking up for themselves in anticipation of new gun-control laws, while others say they're worried about deteriorating public safety as the economy worsens.

Officials Say U.S. Wiretaps Exceeded Law

The National Security Agency intercepted private e-mail messages and phone calls of Americans in recent months on a scale that went beyond the broad legal limits established by Congress last year, government officials said in recent interviews.

Several intelligence officials, as well as lawyers briefed about the matter, said the N.S.A. had been engaged in “overcollection” of domestic communications of Americans. They described the practice as significant and systemic, although one official said it was believed to have been unintentional.

'A Ton More People Were Wiretapped Than We've Been Led To Believe': FBI Whistleblower Thomas Tamm

This week the New York Times revealed that the National Security Agency has continued spying on Americans well into the Obama era, with government officials listening in on phone conversations and monitoring e-mails on a massive scale.

FLASHBACK: Two FBI Whistleblowers Confirm Illegal Wiretapping of Government Officials

The National Security Whistleblowers Coalition (NSWBC) has obtained a copy of an official complaint filed by a veteran FBI Special Agent, Gilbert Graham, with the Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General (DOJ-OIG). SA Graham’s protected disclosures report the violation of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) in conducting electronic surveillance of high-profile U.S. public officials.

NSA spied on member of Congress and broke new laws, report says

An article in The New York Times detailing new violations of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act reports that in recent months the National Security Agency has been intercepting the communications of Americans on a scale going well beyond the broad legal limits established last year by Congress.

Even more shocking, the paper reveals that under the Bush administration the NSA spied on a member of Congress and sought to wiretap the lawmaker without a warrant.

Hey Congress; welcome to OUR world!

TORTURE MEMOES RELEASED

PDF Document à télécharger

Webmaster's Commentary:

A few redacted sections, but what is admitted to is that in addition to waterboarding, other tortures involved slamming prisoners heads into walls (which is proven to produce permanent neurological damage) and locking prisoners into small boxes filled with live insects.

This is the image of the United States of America in the 21st Century.

CIA employees won't be tried for waterboarding

April 17, 2009

WASHINGTON - In the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks, CIA operatives were allowed to shackle, strip and waterboard terror suspects. Now, President Barack Obama has assured these operatives that they will not be prosecuted for their rough interrogation tactics.

At the same time, Obama's attorney general offered the operatives legal help if anyone else takes them to court over the harsh interrogation methods that were approved by the Bush administration.

Parts of the four memos were blacked out, and past and present CIA officials had pressed unsuccessfully for larger portions of the documents to be kept secret. Some critics argued that the release of the memos would make the United States less safe.

Obama disagreed, saying in a statement, "Nothing will be gained by spending our time and energy laying blame for the past."

Webmaster's Commentary:

"But we can't wait to roll John Demjanjuk and his wheelchair onto a plane for Germany!" -- Official White Horse Souse

Obama lawyers set to defend Yoo

In Democratic legal circles, no attorney has been more pilloried than former Bush Justice Department official John Yoo, chief author of the so-called torture memos that Barack Obama last week sought to nullify.

But now President Obama’s incoming crew of lawyers has a new and somewhat awkward job: defending Yoo in federal court.

Next week, Justice Department lawyers are set to ask a San Francisco federal judge to throw out a lawsuit brought against Yoo by Jose Padilla, a New York man held without charges on suspicion of being an Al Qaeda operative plotting to set off a “dirty bomb.”

The suit contends that Yoo’s legal opinions authorized Bush to order Padilla’s detention in a Navy brig in South Carolina and encouraged military officials to subject Padilla to aggressive interrogation techniques, including death threats and long-term sensory deprivation.

Obama gives government criminals a pass on torture

We shouldn't base the future on "hope."

Following the rule of law would be a better foundation.

Obama has decreed that where torture is concerned,
the rule of law is not worth pursuing.

"Just following orders"

Nothing could be more important than going after the criminals who engaged in torture in the name of the US.

Obama has decided to give them a pass.

Torture is immoral, it doesn't work and it puts Americans at risk.

The government officials who operated the torture program need to see the inside of a courtroom - and the inside of a jail.

Former US interrogator recounts torture cases in Afghanistan and Iraq

... which means there are more torture methods still not revealed to the public.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The strangulation method shown in this video is NOT in the list of approved methods in the recently released torture memos. Therefore, we can conclude that there are still torture methods being used that are not yet known by the public.

The worst is yet to come.

Waterboarding Used 266 Times on 2 Suspects

The 2005 memo also says that the C.I.A. used waterboarding 183 times in March 2003 against Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, the self-described planner of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Webmaster's Commentary:

After 183 waterboardings, I would probably claim to have assassinated Lincoln, King, and Kennedy, and then shot down the Hiundenberg, Challenger, and Columbia, all with that same damned magic bullet!

CIA torture exemption 'illegal'

US President Barack Obama's decision not to prosecute CIA agents who used torture tactics is a violation of international law, a UN expert says.

Former Reagan Justice Department official Bruce Fein writes that Obama's decision to release CIA memos without prosecuting Bush administration officials flouts his constitutional duty.

Obama Administration: No Prosecution of Officials for Bush-Era Torture Policy

White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel said during our exclusive interview Sunday on "This Week" that President Barack Obama will not pursue the prosecution of Bush-era officials who devised torture policy against detainees, as laid out in memos the Obama administration released this week.

Man Detained As Terror Suspect For Photographing Police Car

Despite police claiming that an ambiguous section of the UK Counter Terrorism Act of 2008 would not outlaw taking photographs or film of police, a man was detained as a terror suspect this week simply for taking a photograph of a police car in order to document police misconduct.

62-year-old Malcolm Sleath, who is chairman of his local park society, saw a police car driving erratically down a North London park footpath, despite the fact that by law police are supposed to investigate on foot in such circumstances.

IAEA inspectors start leaving North Korea - Japanese media

North Korea announced on Tuesday it was ceasing all cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog and pledged to restart work at its Yongbyon reactor. 'Toxic waste' behind Somali piracy

Somali pirates have accused European firms of dumping toxic waste off the Somali coast and are demanding an $8m ransom for the return of a Ukranian ship they captured, saying the money will go towards cleaning up the waste.

The ransom demand is a means of "reacting to the toxic waste that has been continually dumped on the shores of our country for nearly 20 years", Januna Ali Jama, a spokesman for the pirates, based in the semi-autonomous region of Puntland, said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Obama's reality check

Clearly President Obama could use some better advice on Latin America. It was a mistake to initiate verbal hostilities with Venezuela at the beginning of his presidency; a mistake to continue the Bush administration's policies toward Bolivia; a mistake to think that he can ignore the call of President Lula da Silva of Brazil and other presidents for an end to the embargo on Cuba. Nothing would be easier than for this administration to break with the past and establish normal relations with the entire hemisphere, which was excited about his election and expected no less. But Obama's advisors show little interest in doing this.

Obama pledges solidarity with Mexico in drug cartel fight

Obama's rhetorical endorsement of Mexican policy is the culmination of a series of similarly supportive visits from high-level members of his administration, beginning with secretary of state Hillary Clinton last month.

The trips were hastily organised after Calderón began to react angrily in public at the growing number of voices in Washington that had started comparing the situation in Mexico to instability in Pakistan.

Former Mexican Intelligence Director: "We've Lost Half the Country" to Organized Crime

Ex-Intelligence Directors and Attorney General Medina Mora Contradict Clinton and Calderon on Drug War

Clinton and Calderon's have so vehemently argued that the Mexican government is in complete control of its national territory not simply because they wish to defend the Calderon administration's international reputation. They're also defending a drug war that is increasingly unpopular in the US, but also increasingly worrisome for US officials. As Mexico drug war headlines are splashed across US newspapers with increasing frequency, US officials are finding themselves constantly defending failed drug war policies such as the Merida Initiative and Plan Colombia.

A Taste of AFRICOM: Somalia did find peace and tried to stop piracy until the US bombed the shit out of it in 2006

In 2006 “the CIA propagated that Al-Qaeda had made its base in Somalia where three senior leaders were residing. CIA then encouraged Ethiopia to invade Somalia in support of weak TFG forces (Transitional Federal Government) against UIC fighters (Union of Islamic Courts) and promised to provide intelligence and air cover. Ethiopian troops backed by USA invaded Somalia on 28 December 2006. The UIC was quickly defeated in a sweeping offensive and the six-month peace period was shattered. It was believed that the UIC leadership fled into Kenya or to Yemen and the hard-line fighters cached their arms and melded back into their clans leaving the mostly untrained, new recruits to face the Ethiopian troops.

US Threatens to Invade Eritrea

The United States has reportedly threatened to invade Eritrea and subject it to “the same fate as Taliban-controlled Afghanistan in the wake of the September 11 attacks” for providing support to the al-Shabaab resistance movement in Somalia, which the US has since attempted to link with al-Qaeda. The Daily Telegraph quotes one source as saying “There are consequences for working with al-Shabaab when President Obama cannot afford to look weak on terrorism.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Are you flipping kidding me?!?!?

Eritrea?!?!?!?

Is this the war the Pentagon and state department knuckleheads have decided is "winnable", without too many flag-draped caskets coming home?!?!

And believe me, this administration is hungry for a war - any war - to deflect public anger away from the the moral missteps it has made in not prosecuting the previous administration for lies and torture, and the economic missteps it has made with the bailouts of their cronies.

Israelis warn of Eritrea flashpoint

Security sources say Israel and Iran are conducting rival intelligence operations in Eritrea, the poor African state on the Red Sea.

The Israelis fear Eritrea could be a flashpoint if Iranian Revolutionary Guards continue to ship arms to militants in Gaza via the Eritrean port of Assab. Israel is said to have two Eritrean bases, one a “listening post” for signals intelligence, the other a supply base for its German-built submarines.

Iraq Mercenaries Custer-Battles in court for fraudulent billing

Custer Battles must face a multimillion-dollar lawsuit accusing the mercenary group of fraudulently billing the U.S. government..

Custer Battles was hired on a "cost-plus" basis, meaning it would be reimbursed for its actual expenses, plus 25 percent to cover overhead and generate a profit.

Overbilling Examples: Custer Battles provided two flatbed trucks for which it paid $18,000, but charged $80,000. It billed the coalition authority $400,000 for life-support generators that cost $74,000, and invoiced $12,000 for laundry services that cost $4,000.

Some might recall that these guys had a connection inside the Bush Whitehouse. Sometimes, they were paid with $100,000 cash bricks stuffed in gunny sacks

Custer said, "Battles is very active in the Republican party, and speaks to individuals he knows in the Whitehouse almost daily."

US, Israel to stage extensive missile defense drill – report

Israeli defense officials told the daily that the purpose of the drills was to ensure “interoperability” between the Israeli and American missile defense systems, in case Washington was to deploy those systems to Israel in the event of a conflict with Iran, as it did ahead of the Gulf War in Iraq in 1991.

While the two allies have staged the Juniper Cobra exercise over the past five years, the Jerusalem Post said that this year’s drill will likely be “the most complex and extensive yet”, and will for the first time include the launch of interceptors.

Background: The nuclear nations

North Korea, along with India, Pakistan and Israel, is one of four countries not to have signed the nuclear non-proliferation treaty.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Under the Symington Amendment to the 1961 Foreign Appropriations Bill, the United States Government is banned from sending aid to any nation with nuclear weapons who has not signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

Therefore, it is illegal for the Obama administration to send so much as a single penny to North Korea, India, Pakistan and Israel.

US Senate moves to fully fund Israel aid

The US Senate included a measure to restore full funding for foreign aid to the budget it approved late Thursday, increasing chances that the pool of money including assistance for Israel wouldn't be cut.

The $3.5 trillion document passed by the Senate includes a $4 billion boost to the foreign operations appropriation, bringing it up to the $53.8b. sought by President Barack Obama.

Webmaster's Commentary:

We are losing our homes and jobs and Obama shovels our money to Israel at full tilt boogie rock and roll?

Everyone find your senator at www.comgress.org, CALL them (don't waste time with emails) and remind them that both the US Army and more recently the Guardian Newspaper in England have confirmed that Israel is in fact a nuclear power. Under the terms of the 1976 Symington amendment to the 1961 foreign appropriations bill, it is illegal for the US Government to give financial aid to any nation trafficking in nuclear enrichment or weapons technology outside of international controls. Israel has already been caught selling nuclear weapons technology it acquired from the United States to China! That constitutes trafficking by any definition of the word. Israel, unlike Iran, is not a signer of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Israel, unlike Iran, does not allow unrestricted IAEA inspections of its nuclear facility at Dimona.

How DARE the United States government, at a time when Americans sleep in alleys and eat out of trash dumpsters, send even one thin dime of taxpayer money to a rogue nation that openly defies the United nations 65 times, and threatens its neighbors with illegal nuclear weapons!

Realist Stephen Walt offers eight suggestions that a truly independent regime in Washington could act on:

As US arms shipment reaches Israel, President Obama urged to halt further exports

The new delivery to Israel of a massive consignment of US munitions, revealed by Amnesty International today, throws into question whether President Obama will act to prevent the US fuelling further Israeli attacks against civilians that may amount to war crimes, as were perpetrated in Gaza.

Webmaster's Commentary:

More than that, it proves I was correct in predicting that the US would not react at all after the new government of Israel told the US Government to go @&#% itself over the Annapolis Peace Initiative.

Israel 'received arms shipment'

Dubai: More than 300 containers loaded with US-made arms and munitions were delivered to Israel last month, according to a human rights activist.

"A Pentagon spokesperson confirmed to Amnesty International that "the unloading of the entire US munitions shipment was successfully completed at Ashdod on March 22," Wood pointed out.

The spokesperson had said the shipment was destined for a US pre-positioned munitions stockpile in Israel, he said. Under a US-Israel agreement, munitions from this stockpile may be transferred for Israeli use if necessary.

Webmaster's Commentary:

300 containers? That's a whole lot of military munitions.

One has to wonder what this particular shipment is being pre-positioned for by Israel.

U.S. shipped 989 munitions containers to Israel week before Gaza invasion

In the dying days of the Bush administration, and a week before Israel launched an aerial bombing campaign, followed by a land invasion of the Gaza Strip, the U.S. military shipped 989 containers of munitions to Israel.

Each container was 20-feet long with a total estimated net weight of 14,000 tonnes. The shipment reportedly reached Israel last month at Ashod, 40 kilometers north of Gaza. The huge arsenal of munitions will replenish those expended in the Gaza War.

According to Amnesty International in the UK, the shipment included white phosphorous.

As reported in Human Rights Watch,

http://www.hrw.org/en/node/81726/section/2

"The unlawful use of white phosphorus was neither incidental nor accidental. It was repeated over time and in different locations, with the IDF "air-bursting" the munition in populated areas up to the last days of its military operation. Even if intended as an obscurant rather than as a weapon, the IDF's repeated firing of air-burst white phosphorus shells from 155mm artillery into densely populated areas was indiscriminate and indicates the commission of war crimes."

"The dangers posed by white phosphorus to civilians were well-known to Israeli commanders, who have used the munition for many years. According to a medical report prepared during the hostilities by the ministry of health, "[w]hite phosphorus can cause serious injury and death when it comes into contact with the skin, is inhaled or is swallowed." The report states that burns on less than 10 percent of the body can be fatal because of damage to the liver, kidneys and heart."

Your tax dollars at work, folks. The unquestioning US support of Israel has made us all complicit in their ethnic cleansing of Palestinians by whatever means they deem necessary - including the use of white phosphorus on unarmed civilians.

Call emerges to stop UK military sales to Israel

Revelations that in the first nine months of 2008 Britain licensed the sale of military equipment to Israel worth £27 million has brought a call for the UK government to stop arming Israel.

US 'anger' at Israel weapons sale

A statement from the Israeli defence ministry said arms exports to China were being clarified with US officials in what it called a good spirit.

The statement followed Israeli reports that the sale of a sensitive weapons system to China had angered Washington.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This "sensitive" weapons system was nuclear in nature (see article below), and together with this article proves that the United States KNOWS Israel is trafficking in nuclear weapons technology, which means the US Government KNOWS it is in violation of the 1976 Symington amendment regarding foreign aid to nations that refuse to sign the NNPT.

US Hypocrisy on North Korea: Let's Talk About Israel's Nukes

Obama used the launch in his major address in Prague, which has been characterized as an anti-nuclear speech. “Rules must be binding,” he said of North Korea’s launch. “Violations must be punished. Words must mean something.”

Many countries around the world certainly see hypocrisy in the Obama administration’s position on North Korea. Israel has repeatedly been condemned by the UN for its occupation of Palestinian lands. Moreover, it has hundreds of nuclear weapons with estimates ranging from 200-400 warheads. What’s more, Israel and the US are in league with North Korea in the small club of nations that have refused to ratify the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty.

Israel stands ready to bomb Iran's nuclear sites

The Israeli military is preparing itself to launch a massive aerial assault on Iran's nuclear facilities within days of being given the go-ahead by its new government.

Webmaster's Commentary:

If Israel does go ahead with a unilateral strike, the US should simply stay out completely, and withdraw every cent of aid we have been providing, period, end of discussion.

And there is, of course, one question which has to be asked, and which the author of this article completely ignores.

If Israel attacks Iran, what will its 7th largest trading partner, Russia, decide to do??

War with Russia, anyone?!?!?

Thought not.

Iran stands ready to bomb Israel's nuclear sites

The Iranian military is preparing itself to launch a massive aerial assault on Israel's nuclear facilities within days of being given the go-ahead by its new government.

Most European capitals are targets for our air force…We have the capability to take the world down with us, and I can assure you that that will happen before Israel goes under.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Israel is getting desperate to sell this war!

Desperate enough to use one of their nuclear weapons on a US city and then blame Iran?

What would be the timetable for Israel strike on Iran?

The timing of Saturday's Times of London article, which claimed that the Israel Defense Forces is training for an attack on Iran on very short notice, is certainly no coincidence. Israel is trying to make clear that even though the United States plans to begin a diplomatic dialogue with Iran, it holds a realistic military option against Tehran's nuclear program. Without a deal that assuages Israel's concerns, there may be no other choice but to attack.

Webmaster's Commentary:

There can never be a deal that assuages Israel's concerns, because Israsl is supposedly afraid of something that doe snot exist.

We have already been down this road before with Israel screaming that Iraq was producing nuclear weapons underneath the power station at Osirik. Israel bombed the power station, then lobbied (and lied) for an invasion to destroy Iraq's nuclear weapons. Following that invasion, it was revealed that Iraq did not have nuclear weapons, and inspections of the ruined power station did not reveal any signs of a clandestine weapons laboratory (such as Israel is known to have at Dimona).

So, fool me once, and all that, but we need to stop paying attention to Israel's delusions.

Lieberman and Wiping Countries off the face of the Map

The world has had a lot of fun laughing at the pronouncements of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who stands falsely accused of threatening to wipe Israel off the face of the map. But Ahmadinejad has protested that it would be wrong to kill large numbers of civilians.

In contrast, Lieberman has threatened to wipe at least two countries, Egypt and Palestine, off the map. Monstrously, he suggested bombing the Aswan Dam, which would have the effect of murdering all 80 million Egyptians and sweeping them into the Mediterranean in a vast continental African tsunami.

Israel troops admit Gaza abuses

"The climate in general... I don't know how to describe it.... the lives of Palestinians, let's say, are much, much less important than the lives of our soldiers," an infantry squad leader is quoted saying.

An Israeli military college has printed damning soldiers' accounts of the killing of civilians and vandalism during recent operations in Gaza.

One account tells of a sniper killing a mother and children at close range whom troops had told to leave their home.

Another speaker at the seminar described what he saw as the "cold blooded murder" of a Palestinian woman.

The soldiers' testimonies also reportedly told of an unusually high intervention by military and non-military rabbis, who circulated pamphlets describing the war in religious terminology.

"All the articles had one clear message," one soldier said. "We are the people of Israel, we arrived in the country almost by miracle, now we need to fight to uproot the gentiles who interfere with re-conquering the Holy Land."

"Many soldiers' feelings were that this was a war of religion," he added.

"I still say we have the most moral army in the world. Of course there may be exceptions but I have absolutely no doubt this will be inspected on a case-by-case basis," he said.

Medical authorities say more than 1,300 Palestinians were killed during Israel's 22-day operation, including some 440 children, 110 women, and dozens of elderly people.

The stated aim was to curb rocket and mortar fire by militants from Gaza. Thirteen Israelis, including three civilians were killed.

US to fight 'anti-Israeli crap' at UN

The US envoy to the United Nations says that Washington has a duty to fight the growing anti-Israeli sentiments in the world.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Oh?

Would someone explain to me why it is a "duty" for the US Government to protect Israel from criticism, especially criticism that is well and truly deserved?

"Duty" implies an obligation? What obligates the United States to wipe Israel's butt all the time, or to pay for the weapons with which it has earned its dark reputation?

I am sorry Ms. Rice, but the first duty of the United States Government is to take care of the people of the United States. The second duty of the United States Government is to take care of the people of the United States. The third duty of the United States Government is to take care of the people of the United States.

Israel has created its own problems. I suggest that we allow Israel to deal with them.

Report: “437 children killed, 1872 injured in Israel’s offensive”

Ministry of Social Affairs in the Gaza Strip reported that the Israeli offensive against the Gaza Strip left 1500 children orphans, in addition to killing 437 children and wounding 1500 others.

Ahmad Al Kurd, Minister of Social Affairs, stated on Friday that the Israeli army targeted women and children, and it’s shelling targeted homes, hospitals, educational facilities and even mosques.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Apparently, along with his "comfort zone" regarding the use of white phosphorus munitions on unarmed civilians, the IDF Ethicist Eli Shermeister, considers this killing of women and children "fair fighting" on the part of the IDF.

Check out his comments on the Gaza invasion here:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/04/09/israel-fought-fair-in-gaz_n_185198.html

One has to wonder: just what Shermeister would consider "unfair fighting"?!?

Israel chose destruction over calm and peace

Israel's intelligence agencies acknowledged the truce had been implemented with surprising effectiveness by Hamas.

Clearly, strengthening and extending the truce was the way to go. Ephraim Halevy, former head of Mossad, wrote recently that the Israeli government could have stopped the rocket attacks long ago by lifting the siege on Gaza.

Regrettably, Israel not only failed to ease the strangling siege on Gaza, but it deliberately broke the truce. On Nov. 4, Israel Defense Forces went into Gaza and killed six Palestinians and injured six more.

A fifth of Israeli exporters report drop in demand as footage of Gaza attacks changes behaviour of consumers and investors

Barbaric Israel

Despite the best efforts of the American corporate media, the Israeli lobby, and compromised politicians, the true nature of Israel’s barbarity towards the Palestinian people is not easily hidden. The massacres of Gaza’s civilian population that were recently carried out by the Israeli Defense Force created a turning point in worldwide public opinion. Only the Israeli and American governments try to deny that war crimes were committed.

Now members of the IDF themselves are coming forward to admit that they committed war crimes. Soldiers have told the Israeli newspaper Haaretz that they were ordered to murder civilians without provocation. Haaretz has also revealed that the IDF prepares soldiers to kill civilians by openly condoning the killing of pregnant women and little children.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It is painfully ironic, watching the grandchildren of Holocaust survivors practicing ethnic cleansing against Palestinians, who somehow justifying their ethnic cleansing as their religious and moral "right".

Spain, Israel and War Crimes

Spanish National Court Judge Fernando Andreu says he will redouble his probe of seven top Israeli military and government officials for suspected “crimes against humanity.” He made the decision after determining that documents forwarded by the Israeli Embassy in Madrid show that Israel has decided not to prosecute anyone for the targeted assassination of Salah Shehadeh, the commander of the military wing of Hamas, in Gaza City in 2002. Spanish law allows the prosecution of foreigners for such crimes as genocide, crimes against humanity and torture committed anywhere in the world if the suspects will not be tried in their home country.

Israeli FM questioned over fraud

Israel's new Foreign Minister, Avigdor Lieberman, has been questioned by police for at least seven hours over corruption allegations.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is the guy who wants to bomb the Aswan dam and drown 80 million Egyptians.

UN to hush up report on Israel conduct?

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon may not release the findings of a report he ordered into the Israeli war on Gaza, Press TV has learned.

On Thursday, a spokesperson for Ban cast doubt on whether a report ordered into the three weeks of Israeli military operations in Gaza was meant for public use.

"No. As I said, (the secretary general) is going to first examine the report and decide what to do about it then. This is a report directed to him," said spokeswoman Michele Montas, answering a question posed by a Press TV correspondent.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Ban must be compromised in some way.

Gaza:

Israel created 'terror without mercy' in Gaza

The Israeli military attacked civilians and medics and delayed - sometimes for hours - the evacuation of the injured during the January war in Gaza, according to an independent fact-finding mission commissioned by Israeli and Palestinian medical human rights groups.

Physicians for Human Rights-Israel and the Palestinian Medical Relief Society yesterday said their findings showed Israel's military committed serious violations of international humanitarian law. In their 92-page report, compiled by five senior health experts from across the world, they documented several specific attacks, with interviews from 44 separate witnesses.

France calls Gaza 'open-air prison'

France has warned that the Gaza Strip cannot remain an 'open-air prison' forever, urging Israel to lift the blockade on the territory.

Int'l organizations: Tens of thousands of Gazans are still homeless

Gaza Aid Prevented by U.S.

The United States (U.S.) Patriot Act is preventing Save The Children Norway from rebuilding schools in Gaza. The organization is in despair.

"We are allowed to distribute emergency rations, such as food and water, but systematic relief efforts and rebuilding is blocked", according to Bjørn Lindgren, Save The Children's regional director for Europe and the Middle East, in a Klassekampen interview. "It is a terrible policy that keeps us from helping children."

Israel accused of indiscriminate phosphorus use in Gaza

Israel's military fired white phosphorus over crowded areas of Gaza repeatedly and indiscriminately in its three-week war, killing and injuring civilians and committing war crimes, Human Rights Watch said today.

Gazan children to be screened for long-term effects of white phosphorus smoke

The Union of Health Care Committees (UHCC) in Gaza and in cooperation with the Campaign for the Children of Palestine (CCP) will begin a program offering medical check-ups and screening for 1,000 children in the Strip.

Israel's Phosphorus Bomb Use Violated "Rules of War"

Israel Guilty of War Crimes; Palestinians are Winning the Legitimacy War

Finally is the issue of the tactics and weapons that were used. There is a lot of eye-witness evidence that prohibited targets were struck, including several UN buildings; that civilians were deliberately targeted in an act of vengeance, apparently; and that legally dubious weapons were used in contexts where civilians were exposed to them, such as phosphorous bombs and a weapon called DIME, which involves a very intense explosive power that makes surgical and medical treatment impossible. So there's a whole bunch of issues that together create quite an inventory of violations of the law of war as well as violations of the UN Charter.

Incriminating Evidence Of Israeli War Crimes

Again, the evidence is clear, unequivocal, overwhelming, and conclusive that high-level Israeli government and military officials planned and willfully committed systematic crimes of war and against humanity of such gravity that justice demands they be held to account in an international court of law - either the ICC in the Hague or a special International Criminal Tribunal for Israel (ICTI).

Israeli military in PR offensive to explain civilian deaths in Gaza

The Israeli military has moved to deflect a mounting barrage of criticism over the deaths of hundreds of civilians during its 22-day offensive in Gaza.

The public relations drive by the Israeli Defence Force has been given impetus by allegations made by some soldiers that permissive rules of engagement failed to protect civilians.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Israel went into Gaza secure in their belief that they could control the narrative of what the rest of the world saw; that Israel could prevent anyone from inside Gaza from getting information and images out, and that the owned and subservient corporate media would feed the public Israel's lies as truth.

But the corporate media no longer has a monopoly on the flow of information. The high ground in the war for the minds of the world is here in the blog-o-sphere. Israel didn't understand that, and as a result, Operation CAST LEAD exploded in their face and wrecked Israel's carefully crafted image as perpetual victim. Now they are trying to get it back, again trusting that if they only spend enough of the American Taxpayer's money on the problem, the world can be made to forget the images of dead Palestinian children.

THE SIEGE OF GAZA IS FAR FROM OVER

There has been talk in the Western Press the past week of President Obama’s intention to keep the embargo on Cuba. There has been no talk of the continuing embargo on the Gaza Strip. America is as much responsible for that embargo as the one on Cuba.

Webmaster's Commentary:

"DO WHAT WE WANT, OR WE STARVE YOU!!!!" -- Official White Horse Souse

(ahem)

Cuba has survived 47 years of the US embargo. If embargo was going to work, it would have done so by now. All continuing the embargo does is make the United States look petty, vindictive, and mean, not to mention afraid of a tiny Caribbean island.

Yousef Al-Helou: Gaza closed Zone & Gaza Residents Face Fresh Water Shortages

“I have not seen my family for more than 3 years due to the Israeli blockade and continued closure of Rafah border crossing but thanks to technology, I can see them through webcam and talk to them via microphone but I really hope to see them face to face and that the crossing which is the only exit for the Gazans to the outside world be open forever, so that we can cross in and out whenever we want; now we are prisoners and we really aspire to freedom of movement”, Ahmad Dallol, Gaza resident said while setting on his PC chatting to his family, currently residing in UAE.

The Palestine News and Information Agency, WAFA, reported on Wednesday morning that Israeli soldiers kidnapped 17 Palestinians after the army invaded a number of villages and cities in the occupied West Bank. The army invaded Nablus, Ramallah and Hebron, broke into and searched dozens of homes.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Yep, Israel is re-starting the Gaza war.

Israel's Illegal Annexation of East Jerusalem

So says a confidential EU report revealed on March 7 by The London Guardian's Rory McCarthy. It accuses Israel "of using settlement expansion, house demolitions, discriminatory housing policies and the West Bank (Separation) barrier as a way of 'actively pursuing the illegal annexation' of East Jerusalem." More still, including restrictive permits, "closure of Palestinian institutions," and various other ways to "increase Jewish presence in" the city, "impede Palestinian urban development, and separate East Jerusalem from the rest of the West Bank" incrementally to annex it.

A major military operation took place today in Haris between 2am and 5pm. Around 15 jeeps, 2 border police jeeps and vans belonging to Israeli Intelligence Shabak entered Haris and arrested around 150 people including large number of minors.

Israel is clearly intending to restart the Gaza operation.

UN: Israel broke six-month truce in Gaza

A new UN report exposes a bit of misinformation peddled by the US and Israel and shatters the Zionist illusion that the Gaza war was legal.

The report, prepared by human rights investigator Richard Falk, confirms that Tel Aviv was indeed the party that violated the Egyptian-brokered six-month truce in Gaza.

Incriminating Evidence Of Israeli War Crimes

Throughout its history, Israel has willfully and repeatedly committed crimes of war and against humanity, always with impunity. Yet under customary legal standards and norms (including Geneva, Hague, the UN Charter, S.C. and G.A. resolutions), it's lawless, a serial abuser, a threat to the region and humanity, mostly as an oppressive occupier. Attacking Gaza is the latest episode in its six-decade reign of terror satisfying the definition of genocide against defenseless Palestinian civilians.

Divestment campaign gains momentum in Europe

The Swedish national pension fund AP7 is the latest institution to follow the socially responsible investment example of Dutch ASN Bank by excluding the French transportation giant Alstom from its portfolio. Alstom was excluded because of the company's involvement in Israel's occupation of Palestinian land.
