On sale soon: The mobile aimed at four-year-olds

A mobile phone designed for children as young as four is to be sold in Britain.

The brightly coloured Firefly handset has just five buttons - including two which call Mum and Dad directly.

Details of the phone, which looks like a toy, came as it emerged that more than half of under-tens now own a mobile.

United Nations publishes 'World Drug Report 2009'

A UN agency has published a comprehensive report on the worldwide illicit drugs market, the World Drug Report 2009. The graphs and maps below show the extent of the problem and measures to tackle it.

DRUGS AND CRIME

Some argue that strict controls have created a thriving black market that breeds violence and corruption.
In the report's preface, UNODC Executive Director Antonio Maria Costa calls for greater investment in drug treatment and crime control. He says legalising drugs would be "an historic mistake" as a free market would spark a drug epidemic. "Societies should not have to choose between protecting public health or public security: they can and should do both."

Chilling warning for the U.S.

By Hyung-Jin Kim, The Associated Press

SEOUL, South Korea - North Korea threatened Wednesday to wipe the United States off the map as Washington and its allies watched for signs the regime will launch a series of missiles in the coming days.

Off China's coast, a U.S. destroyer was tailing a North Korean ship suspected of transporting illicit weapons to Myanmar in what could be the first test of U.N. sanctions passed to punish the nation for an underground nuclear test last month.

The Kang Nam left the North Korean port of Nampo a week ago with the USS John S. McCain close behind. The ship, accused of transporting banned goods in the past, is believed bound for Myanmar, according to South Korean and U.S. officials.

The new U.N. Security Council resolution requires member states to seek permission to inspect suspicious cargo. North Korea has said it would consider interception a declaration of war and on Wednesday accused the U.S. of seeking to provoke another Korean War.

"If the U.S. imperialists start another war, the army and people of Korea will ... wipe out the aggressors on the globe once and for all," the official Korean Central News Agency said.

Moyen-Orient:

These Are Obama’s Wars Now

No longer can the blame for the turmoil in Iraq and Afghanistan rest at the feet of George W. Bush alone. This is now Obama’s War on Terror, fully funded and operated by the Democratic Party.

Despite Obama’s historic (albeit rhetoric filled) speech in Cairo, the new Commander in Chief is still not about to radically change, let alone reform, the US’s long-standing role in the Middle East. A master of his craft, Obama is simply candy coating the delivery of US imperialism in the region. Given the lack of opposition to Obama’s policies back home, it is becoming clear that he may well be more dangerous than his predecessor when it comes to the US’s motivations internationally.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Same agenda; infinitely more intelligent and telegenic pitchman.

"Change you can believe in" ?!?!? Zero, zip, nada, nothing, zilch.

Pakistan:

Obama's Undeclared War On Pakistan Continues

By Jeremy Scahill

June 22, 2009 "Rebel Reports" -- Three days after his inauguration, on January 23, 2009, President Barack Obama ordered U.S. predator drones to attack sites inside of Pakistan, reportedly killing 15 people. It was the first documented attack ordered by the new U.S. Commander in Chief inside of Pakistan. Since that first Obama-authorized attack, the U.S. has regularly bombed Pakistan, killing scores of civilians. The New York Times reported that the attacks were clear evidence Obama "is continuing, and in some cases extending, Bush administration policy." ...

US Drone Attack Kills 13 in South Waziristan

US drones launched an apparent attack on a compound near South Waziristan’s capital of Wana today, killing at least 13 people and wounding an unknown number of others. Four missiles were said to be fired at a compound belonging to a suspected commander in the Tehreek-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Webmaster's Commentary:

The use of aerial bombardment in Pakistan which insures the killing and maiming of innocent civilians, is a coarse and indiscriminate tactic.

This will only further enrage the Pakistani people against both American interests and their own government, guaranteeing more destabilization.

One has to wonder if this is precisely the outcome the US wants as the excuse, ultimately, to create a "regime change" here in order to "save nuclear-armed Pakistan from itself."

Remote bombing: US drone kills 65 in S. Waziristan

US drone attacks kill 65 in South Waziristan
PESHAWAR (June 24 2009): At least 65 'militants' were killed in US drone attacks in South Waziristan Agency on Tuesday,....
In the second attack, one or more drones fired three missiles at a funeral of one of those killed in the morning, killing at least 65 people and wounding many, intelligence officials said. The United States has carried out about 42 drone strikes since the beginning of last year, most since September, killing more than 345 people, including many foreign militants, according to reports from security agents, officials and residents.

'Dozens dead' in US drone strike

At least 43 people have died in missile strikes by a US drone aircraft in a militant stronghold of Pakistan, a Taliban spokesman has told the BBC.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I don't see a whole heck of a lot of moral difference between a "drone strike" and a "suicide bomber", do you?

Network-centric Warfare

While American operators may get their kicks unloading a salvo of deadly missiles on unsuspecting villagers thousands of miles away, what happens when CIA "cut-outs" get it wrong?

According to investigative journalist Amir Mir, writing in the Lahore-based newspaper The News, "of the sixty cross-border Predator strikes...between January 14, 2006 and April 8, 2009, only 10 were able to hit their actual targets, killing 14 wanted al-Qaeda leaders, besides perishing 687 innocent Pakistani civilians. The success percentage of the US Predator strikes thus comes to not more than six percent."

CIA Secrecy on Drone Attacks Data Hides Abuses

The U.S. Central Intelligence Agency’s refusal to share with other agencies even the most basic data on the bombing attacks by remote-controlled unmanned predator drones in Pakistan’s northwestern tribal region, combined with recent revelations that CIA operatives have been paying Pakistanis to identify the targets, suggests that managers of the drone attacks programs have been using the total secrecy surrounding the program to hide abuses and high civilian casualties.

In April, The News, a newspaper in Lahore, Pakistan, published figures provided by Pakistani officials indicating that 687 civilians have been killed along with 14 al-Qaeda leaders in some 60 drone strikes since January 2008 – just over 50 civilians killed for every al-Qaeda leader.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The CIA doesn't care about the heavy collateral damage, if they think they get one or two "bad guys" by killing 40 or 50 non-combatants (women, kids, the medically fragile, and the elderly) at a pop.

Unfortunately, this indiscriminate killing tends to radicalize the survivors to the point where suddenly, the Taliban start to look like the good guys.

If there was a US governmental agency which absolutely deserves a booby prize for creating completely unintended consequences, generating the absolute opposite outcomes from what had been the goals in these wars without end, the CIA is a brilliant contender!

US Congress okays $1.4bn Pakistan aid

The US Congress on Friday approved $1.4 billion in economic and security assistance for Pakistan as the Senate passed a $106 billion war supplemental bill, giving the Obama administration an urgently needed $225 million in relief assistance for the displaced people of Swat.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One has to wonder what mechanisms are in place to assure that this aid goes where it is supposed to go, and isn't just a humongous bribe for Pakistani civilian and military leaders to pocket for doing precisely what the US dictates they do?

Were I a betting person, I would bet.... absolutely none.

Pakistan: Why US interference?

The winds of American military rhetoric have shifted again. Last week, Gen David Petraeus repeatedly hammered home the idea that the US army had little do with the Pakistan military’s war against militants in the Frontier province and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata).

Although the US has delivered 100,000 rounds of ammunition and four cargo helicopters to Pakistan, allocated $700m dollars for the Pakistan Counterinsurgency Capability Fund (PCCF), and millions more in humanitarian aid, Gen Petraeus insists that the ongoing military operation is ‘a Pakistani operation’.

Al Qaeda says would use Pakistani nuclear weapons

If it were in a position to do so, Al Qaeda would use Pakistan's nuclear weapons in its fight against the United States, a top leader of the group said in remarks aired Sunday.

Violence hits Iraqi cities ahead of US pullout

The blast in Sadr City, in the northeast of the capital, comes days before US combat troops are due to leave the country's major cities.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Someone is trying to create a situation in which the US will have to change its mind and leave the troops in place to "keep order."

US to Keep Troops in Sadr City Past Deadline

Today officials are confirming that the US and Iraqi militaries have reached a “tentative” agreement to keep American combat troops in the Baghdad slum of Sadr City past the deadline. Officials are also saying that this base is one of 14 that they are hoping to keep open past the deadline.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Translation: we're going to be in Iraq permanently, in some areas.

General: US Troops to ‘Encircle’ Iraqi Cities

The Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) between Iraq and the United States requires that all US combat forces leave Iraqi cities by the end of Tuesday. The US is going to be going along with the requirement, more or less, but those troops won’t be going far.
Major General Robert Caslen

According to Major General Robert Caslen, the commander of US forces in the north, the troops that are being pulled from the cities will be massing along the outskirts of the cities, encircling them in what the general called an attempt to replicate the surge strategy outside of the cities.

Confidential memo reveals US plan to provoke an invasion of Iraq

A confidential record of a meeting between President Bush and Tony Blair before the invasion of Iraq, outlining their intention to go to war without a second United Nations resolution, will be an explosive issue for the official inquiry into the UK's role in toppling Saddam Hussein.

The memo, written on 31 January 2003, almost two months before the invasion and seen by the Observer, confirms that as the two men became increasingly aware UN inspectors would fail to find weapons of mass destruction (WMD) they had to contemplate alternative scenarios that might trigger a second resolution legitimising military action.

Ahmadinejad enjoys second surprise triumph

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad shook off accusations from moderate opponents of economic mis-management and criticism of his confrontational foreign policy with the West to win a second term as Iranian president.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The neo-cons in Washington and the hawks in Tel Aviv are probably toasting this news with champagne, as bizarre as that may sound.

This means they won't have to "re-invent the wheel" in terms of having to demonize yet a new Iranian president, which would cause their timetable for a military attack against Iran to slip.

Kissinger threatens regime change in Iran if coup fails

" I am sure that Americans would favour the emergence from the present situation of a truly popularly based government and it is very appropriate for the president to make clear that that is what he favours. Now if it turns out that it is not possible for a government to emerge in Iran that can deal with itself as a nation rather than as a cause then we have a different situation, then we may conclude that we must work for regime change in Iran from the outside but if I understand the president correctly he does not want to do this as a visible intervention in the current crisis."

Israeli officials: Iran vote shows growing threat

The apparent re-election of hardline Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad underscores the growing threat posed by Tehran and its nuclear ambitions, two senior Israeli politicians said Saturday, urging the world not to engage in dialogue with Iran.

Webmaster's Commentary:

How completely predictable, and right on time!

The comments on Ahmadinejad's win, covered in a previous article here, seems to have been validated by the issuing of these statements by Ayalon and Shalom, although characterized as "...personal views and not those of the Israeli government."

Had the Israeli government had any objections to these statements, they would not have been made.

CIA, Iran and the Election Riots

Webmaster's Commentary:

I told you; this is all a repeat of 1953.

Kudos to ABC for having the gonadal tissue to report this.

Pre-election Iranian poll showed Ahmadinejad support

Webmaster's Commentary:

The best indicator of vote fraud is when the 0fficial results do not match the pre-election polls or the exit polls (unless you are in the USA of course).

That did not happen in Iran's elections. Ahmadinejad was ahead by a wide margin all the way through.

What Actually Happened in the Iranian Presidential Election? - A Hard Look at the Numbers

However, the double standard applied by Western news agencies is striking. Richard Nixon trounced George McGovern in his native state of South Dakota in the 1972 elections. Had Al Gore won his home state of Tennessee in 2000, no one would have cared about a Florida recount, nor would there have been a Supreme Court case called Bush v. Gore. If Vice-Presidential candidate John Edwards had won the states he was born and raised in (South and North Carolina), President John Kerry would now be serving his second term. But somehow, in Western newsrooms Middle Eastern people choose their candidates not on merit, but on the basis of their “tribe.”

BBC Caught In Mass Public Deception With Iran Propaganda

The BBC has again been caught engaging in mass public deception by using photographs of pro-Ahmadinejad rallies in Iran and claiming they represent anti-government protests in favor of Hossein Mousavi.

An image used by the L.A. Times on the front page of its website Tuesday showed Iranian President Ahmadinejad waving to a crowd of supporters at a public event.

In a story covering the election protests yesterday, the BBC News website used a closer shot of the same scene, but with Ahmadinejad cut out of the frame. The caption under the photograph read, ‘Supporters of Mir Hossein Mousavi again defied a ban on protests’.

The BBC photograph is clearly a similar shot of the same pro-Ahmadinejad rally featured in the L.A. Times image, yet the caption erroneously claims it represents anti-Ahmadinejad protesters.

Are the Iranian Election Protests Another US Orchestrated ‘Color Revolution’?

On May 23, 2007, Brian Ross and Richard Esposito reported on ABC News: “The CIA has received secret presidential approval to mount a covert “black” operation to destabilize the Iranian government, current and former officials in the intelligence community tell ABC News.”

On May 27, 2007, the London Telegraph independently reported: “Mr. Bush has signed an official document endorsing CIA plans for a propaganda and disinformation campaign intended to destabilize, and eventually topple, the theocratic rule of the mullahs.”

A few days previously, the Telegraph reported on May 16, 2007, that Bush administration neocon warmonger John Bolton told the Telegraph that a US military attack on Iran would “be a ‘last option’ after economic sanctions and attempts to foment a popular revolution had failed.”

On June 29, 2008, Seymour Hersh reported in the New Yorker: “Late last year, Congress agreed to a request from President Bush to fund a major escalation of covert operations against Iran, according to current and former military, intelligence, and congressional sources. These operations, for which the President sought up to four hundred million dollars, were described in a Presidential Finding signed by Bush, and are designed to destabilize the country’s religious leadership.”

Timmerman goes on to write that “the National Endowment for Democracy has spent millions of dollars promoting ‘color’ revolutions . . . Some of that money appears to have made it into the hands of pro-Mousavi groups, who have ties to non-governmental organizations outside Iran that the National Endowment for Democracy funds.” Timmerman’s own neocon Foundation for Democracy is “a private, non-profit organization established in 1995 with grants from the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), to promote democracy and internationally-recognized standards of human rights in Iran.”

Soros, the CIA, Mossad and the new media destabilization of Iran

It's the 2009 presidential election in Iran and opposition leader Mir-Houssein Mousavi declares victory hours before the polls close, insuring that any result to the contrary will be called into question. Western media goes into overdrive, fighting with each other to see who can offer the most hyperbolic denunciation of the vote and President Ahmadenijad's apparent victory (BBC wins by publishing bald-faced lies about the supposed popular uprising which it is later forced to retract). On June 13th, 30000 "tweets" begin to flood Twitter with live updates from Iran, most written in English and provided by a handful of newly-registered users with identical profile photos.

Israel keeps Mossad chief on for Iran "shadow war"

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu extended the tenure of the Mossad chief to an eighth year on Sunday, a testament to the spymaster's perceived success in waging shadow wars against Iran and its allies. Meir Dagan, a former commando and retired general, took over Mossad in 2002 with what security sources described as a mandate to monitor and sabotage the Iranian nuclear program ahead of any decision by Israel to launch full-scale preemptive strikes.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Well, at least you can credit Tel Aviv for wanting to be upfront about waging a clandestine intelligence war against Iran, prior to an actual invasion!

But do take a second, hard look at that statement ".....Failing that, Israel, which is widely assumed to have the Middle East's only nuclear arsenal, has hinted at a military option, though many analysts think Iranian sites are too dispersed and fortified for its air force to take on alone."

Guess who is going having to go to bat for Israel, should there be a military confrontation? None other than the good old US of A.

Your kids' lives and your tax dollars will pay for this next war, should it happen.

Any of our troops left in Iraq, and elsewhere in the Middle East, will be sitting ducks for a counter attack by Iranian military forces.

And here's something to chew on. Russia is Iran's 7th largest trading partner; what are they going to do when they see their 7th largest trading partner attacked?

War with Russia, anyone????

Iranian Unrest: Evidence Of Western Intelligence Meddling

The following summary, with extensive links, highlights the major evidence that suggests western intelligence agencies are aiding in stirring up unrest inside Iran as part of a "color revolution" to foment regime change.

Obama scoffs at Ahmadinejad's demand for apology

I would suggest that Mr. Ahmadinejad think carefully about the obligations he owes to his own people," he added.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to President Obama: you need to think carefully about the obligations you owe to your own people; that is, to We the People of the United States of America.

You do remember us, don't you? We're the people for whom your campaign platform promised "change".

You have been given your marching orders about Iran from Bibi Netanyahu when he visited you last, and those orders were "...take care of Iran's nuclear program.....or else".

The last thing We the People need is another of these immoral and fiscally insane wars to neutralize Israel's perceived existential threats in the region. And Mr. President, you appreciate fully that these include all of Israel's neighbors.

And that statement about "...the United States has gone out of its way not to interfere with the election process in Iran,"; a thinking person doesn't know whether to laugh or cry when they read it.

If the US was doing nothing to influence or interfere with the election, why was Twitter not pulled down for maintenance when it was supposed to be, so that allegedly "true information" could get out of Iran about the protests?

Why, all of a sudden, did we find Reza Pahlavi, the son of the former Shah of Iran (an American-installed puppet, hated by his people), all of a sudden get "face time" on literally every news feed you could see, crying crocodile tears in front of the camera about the current situation in Iran?

Why, when there was a protest against the election results here in the US, were the flags which were waved those of the dictatorship of the Shah, and not the flag of the current Republic of Iran?

President Obama, the attempted destabilization of the current regime has not worked. So now what? Continued demonization of Iran for doing what it has, as a signatory to the NPT, a perfect right to do, develop nuclear energy in the building of a power plant?

And how can we demonize Iran for doing this, when we know perfectly well that Israel does have nuclear weapons, and refuses to sign the NPT?!?!?

Thinking Americans, particularly those with families serving in our military, remember very acutely the demonization of Saddam Hussein in the run-up to the invasion of Iraq.

They also understand now that this demonization was based on a pack of lies, sold to us by a government which was eager to use any excuse (or confession extracted under torture, as in the case Ibn al-Sheikh al-Libi who conveniently committed suicide in May of this year) to go to war. As reported here:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/05/11/AR2009...

"Libi was captured fleeing Afghanistan in late 2001, and he vanished into the secret detention system run by the Bush administration. He became the unnamed source, according to Senate investigators, behind Bush administration claims in 2002 and 2003 that Iraq had provided training in chemical and biological weapons to al-Qaeda operatives. The claim was most famously delivered by then-Secretary of State Colin L. Powell in his address to the United Nations in February 2003. "

Mr. President, I urge you to think very carefully about what you do next regarding Iran.

We the People - and the world - are watching.

A History of CIA Atrocities

Obama Moves to Fund Iranian Dissidents

Despite President Barack Obama’s persistent claims that the United States is not meddling in the post-election furore in Iran, the administration is moving forward with plans to subsidize Iranian dissident groups to the tune of $20 million in the form of USAID grants.

The program is not new, and the solicitation for the grant applications actually came under the Bush Administration. But with the deadline for submissions just four days away, the administration has a convenient excuse to subsidize opposition and dissident groups under the guise of promoting “the rule of law” in Iran.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Unflipping believable.

How the heck does Obama believe we are going to create a dialogue with the existing Iranian government, when the US is pulling this kind of a stunt?

Or perhaps, on Netanyahu's timetable of "take care of Iran by the end of the year, or else....", Obama has, for all practical intents and purposes, abandoned any pretext of negotiation with Iran, and is - as the phrase goes in basketball - "running out the clock", with no sincere intent to engage Iran at all.

Proof: Israeli Effort to Destabilize Iran Via Twitter

Were these legitimate Iranian people or the works of a propaganda machine? I became curious and decided to investigate the origins of the information. In doing so, I narrowed it down to a handful of people who have accounted for 30,000 Iran related tweets in the past few days. Each of them had some striking similarities -

1. They each created their twitter accounts on Saturday June 13th.
2. Each had extremely high number of Tweets since creating their profiles.
3. “IranElection” was each of their most popular keyword
4. With some very small exceptions, each were posting in ENGLISH.
5. Half of them had the exact same profile photo
6. Each had thousands of followers, with only a few friends. Most of their friends were EACH OTHER.

Are You Ready For War With Demonized Iran?

What is the source of the information for the US media and the American puppet states?

Nothing but the assertions of the defeated candidate, the one America prefers.

The poll results, the only real information we have at this time, indicate that the election results reflect the will of the Iranian voters.

With the help of Mousavi, the US government is creating another "oppressed people," like Iraqis under Saddam Hussein, who require American blood and treasure to liberate. Has Mousavi, the American candidate in the Iranian election who was roundly trounced, been chosen by Washington to become the American puppet ruler of Iran?

Webmaster's Commentary:

I am sure there were champagne toasts in the halls of power in Tel Aviv and in the halls of power for Washington's neo-cons when it became obvious that Ahmedinejad clearly won the election.

Netanyahu gave Obama an ultimatum on Iran when he met in Washington. Obama has until the end of 2009 to "stop the Iranian's nuclear program...or else."

That "or else" may well take the form of an Israeli attack on Iran, into which the US will inevitably get dragged.
