American Confidence In Television News At A Record Low

In U.S., Confidence in Newspapers, TV News Remains a Rarity

Americans continue to express near-record-low confidence in newspapers and television news -- with no more than 25% of Americans saying they have a "great deal" or "quite a lot" of confidence in either. These views have hardly budged since falling more than 10 percentage points from 2003-2007.

Webmaster's Commentary:

And why did that slide start in 2003?!?
Because the corporate media lied the American people into a war in Iraq based on an absolute pack of lies, just as it is attempting to do to lie the American people into yet another war to neutralize another of Israel's "existential threats" in the region, Iran!!

FCC Abandons Efforts for Net Neutrality Compromise: Allows Google and Verizon to Write the Regulations

AP
WASHINGTON — Federal regulators are abandoning efforts to negotiate a compromise on so-called "network neutrality" rules intended to ensure that phone and cable TV companies cannot discriminate against Internet traffic traveling over their broadband lines.
The announcement Thursday by the Federal Communications Commission ends weeks of FCC-brokered talks to try to reach an agreement on the thorny issue among a handful of big phone, cable and Internet companies. And it comes as two big companies that have been taking part in those talks – Verizon Communications Inc. and Google Inc. – attempt to hammer out their own separate proposal for how broadband providers should treat Internet traffic.

Zionist Lobby Paid Off U.S. Journalists To Sell Israeli Foreign Policy

Newly declassified documents highlighting how the Israeli lobby routinely paid off journalists in the U.S. corporate media to write pro-Zionist propaganda in support of Israeli aggression against Palestine and Iran during the 60’s have taken on new significance after the Atlantic Monthly, which is named in the documents as being complicit in the bribing scandal, recently published a cover story hyping the necessity and inevitability of an Israeli attack on Iran.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Israel spent $36 million (that is known about) to bribe the presstitutes at ABCNNBBCBS. I do not need to tell you that much of that money came from your pocket, sent to Israel by the US Government in defiance of the Symington Amendment and the Glenn act.

"You could get a journalist cheaper than a good call girl, for a couple hundred dollars a month." - CIA operative discussing with Philip Graham, editor Washington Post, on the availability and prices of "Presstitutes" willing to peddle CIA propaganda and cover stories. Declassified: Massive Israeli manipulation of US media exposed

Files declassified in America have revealed covert public relations and lobbying activities of Israel in the U.S. The National Archive made the documents public following a Senate investigation. They suggest Israel has been trying to shape media coverage of issues it regards as important. You can download the files from the web-site of the Institute for Research on Middle Eastern policy. And we can cross to Washington now and talk to Grant F. Smith who is a director at that Institute.

Gilad Atzmon: United Against Knowledge

The Guardian reported today that two Israeli groups have set up training courses in subversive Wikipedia editing aiming to 'show the other side' of the Jewish State.

Those who lend their pen to the Palestinian cause know about Wikipedia Jews, a term that was coined a few years ago. It refers to a bunch of rabid and crypto Zionists who constantly vandalise encyclopaedia entries to do with Palestine, Palestinian activists and Israeli atrocities.

According to the Guardian two Israeli groups seeking to gain the upper hand in the online debate have launched a course in "Zionist editing".

Yesha Council, representing the Jewish settler movement ran their first workshop this week in Jerusalem, teaching participants how to ‘rewrite’ and ‘revise’ some of the most “hotly disputed pages of the online reference site.”

How WikiLeaks Keeps Its Funding Secret

The Wall Street Journal World

The controversial website WikiLeaks, which argues the cause of openness in leaking classified or confidential documents, has set up an elaborate global financial network to protect a big secret of its own—its funding.

Some governments and corporations angered by the site's publications have already sued WikiLeaks or blocked access to it, and the group fears that its money and infrastructure could be targeted further, founder Julian Assange said in an interview in London shortly after publishing 76,000 classified U.S. documents about the war in Afghanistan in July. The move sparked international controversy and put WikiLeaks in the spotlight.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So, the site shut down for lack of funding last year, then suddenly they have a million bucks to play with from a source which must remain hidden ... at the same time they start coming out with stories about a living Osama Bin Laden and dissing the 9-11 truth movement!

The ‘Mosque’ Affair: An American Comedy

THE “ground zero mosque,” as you may well know by now, is not at ground zero. It’s not a mosque but an Islamic cultural center containing a prayer room.

Ground Zero Mosque Imam Is Globalist Stooge

The Imam of the now infamous “ground zero mosque” is a member of the ultra elitist Council On Foreign Relations and receives financial backing from powerful globalist sources including the Rockefellers, the Carnegie Corporation and the Ford Foundation.

This information provides a compelling backdrop to the theory that the move to establish the mosque is a deliberate attempt to further stoke religious tensions and divert attention away from the real enemy of free humanity, the corporate globalist elite who continue to profit from global war and division.

The facial recognition software that will put a name to every photograph in the internet

A software company is developing revolutionary software which provides the ability to identify people from photographs posted on the internet.

Face.com has produced technology that can identify individuals on social networking sites and online galleries by comparing their image against a known picture of them.

It means detailed profiles of individuals can be built up purely from online photographs and critics have said it could lead to exploitation by employers.

MEDIA SCRAMBLES TO CHANGE "Oil spill and Iraq combat over, Obama takes break"

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is a search page for the story "Oil spill and Iraq combat over, Obama takes break" posted earlier today. Apparently the reaction has been quite negative because if you click these links now, the story has now been replaced by one about Obama visiting a bookstore (like this is something we should find interesting).

Here are the original first few lines of the story that is being "Orwellized" as I type!

Finally, President Barack Obama can relax on vacation.

The Gulf oil spilled is plugged. The last combat troops are out of Iraq. And Congress is on its own summer break.

Clearly, the oil disaster is still a disaster, 52,000 US troops remain in Iraq, and somebody realized that this display of Presidential Arrogance was not going to help the Democrats this election season.

Oil spill and Iraq combat over, Obama takes break

Webmaster's Commentary:

And if you believe that part about "Oil spill and Iraq combat over", I have some of Saddam's 'nookular' bombs to sell you!

UPDATE: Apparently somebody realized what an arrogant headline this story originally had and it has now been changed all across the web to something more benign./ However the original cached page is still online at many places including here

Wikileaks founder Julian Assange accused of rape

Ms Rosander said there were two separate allegations against Mr Assange, one of rape and the other of molestation.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This may be a publicity play for sympathy, to make Julian look like a victim. Frankly, given that his "leaks" describe Bin Laden as still alive, and his dismissal of the 9-11 truth movement, there is something odoriferous about Assange's whole operation, over and above the rather large amount of money he suddenly received to play with. This may just be a PR stunt to build sympathy.

UPDATE: Yep, looking like a cheap PR stunt to build sympathy for "poor little" Julian. The warrant has been rescinded.

Philadelphia to register/charge bloggers $300 for blogging "priviledge"

For the past three years, Marilyn Bess has operated MS Philly Organic, a small, low-traffic blog that features occasional posts about green living, out of her Manayunk home. Between her blog and infrequent contributions to ehow.com, over the last few years she says she's made about $50. To Bess, her website is a hobby. To the city of Philadelphia, it's a potential moneymaker, and the city wants its cut.

In May, the city sent Bess a letter demanding that she pay $300, the price of a business privilege license.

Vanunu upon release from jail: Let me leave this country

Israeli nuclear whistle-blower Mordechai Vanunu was freed from jail on Sunday after serving 11 weeks behind bars for breaking the terms of his release and meeting a foreigner, a prison official said.
The court rejected his request and ordered him to serve three months behind bars.
Vanunu was originally jailed in 1986 and spent more than 10 of his 18 years in prison in solitary confinement.
At home, he is still widely reviled for converting to Christianity shortly before he was kidnapped in Italy and shipped back to Israel.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This man is reviled by his countrymen for having told the truth about Israel's nuclear weapons program, as well as for having converted to Christianity.
And regarding that last bit, please forward this to every Christian Zionist you know.

Arab nations urge U.S. to end support of Israel's nuclear secrecy

Ignoring a U.S. warning, Arab nations are urging Washington and other powers to end support of Israel's nuclear secrecy and to push for international inspections of Israel's nuclear program, diplomats told The Associated Press Sunday.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Good for the Arab League!

A sane world cannot possibly have two standards of judgment on nuclear transparency, one for Iran, and quite another for Israel.

And by the way, I want Israel to pay back every penny of aid they have illegally been receiving from the US since the passing of the Symington Amendment - with interest!!

Nuclear Detonation Timeline "1945-1998"

Nuclear Detonation Map and Timeline 1945-1998
by grtv
The 2053 nuclear tests and explosions that took place between 1945 and 1998 are plotted visually and audibly on a world map.
As the video starts out detonations are few and far between. The first three detonations represent the Manhattan Project and the two bombs that ended World War II. After a few representative minutes the USSR and Britain enter the nuclear club and the testing really starts to heat up.
Even though the video does not differentiate between sub-critical "safety" tests and full detonations, you get a good idea of the fever of the nuclear arms race.

65th anniversary of first nuclear test

It started with a pen and paper, a letter written by Albert Einstein to President Franklin Roosevelt in 1939, explaining the urgency of work on uranium fission.
Several nations in Europe had become entrenched in the Second World War, and the United States propelled itself into work on developing a nuclear bomb.
“Tens of thousands of people worked on it,” said Robert Norris, Senior Research Associate with the Natural Resources Defense Council. “The largest corporations in America were recruited. So it’s not something that can be done in a laboratory here.”

USDA Reports Food Shortages: Wall Street 'Caught Off Guard' by Severity

Several recent headlines indicate that food prices will continue their swift climb upward. These troubling new reports show that agriculture production and stored grains are critically low and experts are now predicting food shortages on a grand scale.

Food prices set to soar after ‘perfect storm’ set of figures released

The British food industry is preparing for a massive jump in food inflation in the wake of soaring animal feed prices, a shortage of silage and poor harvests. These key points could present ‘perfect storm’ conditions for sky-high food prices according to a new report.

Putin Announces Halt To Russia Grain Exports; Grain Futures Jump To Two Year High

Russia, the world's third wheat exporter, Thursday banned grain exports for the next four-and-a-half months due to a record drought that has destroyed millions of hectares (acres) of its land...

Russia ban on grain export begins

Russia has imposed a ban on grain exports until the end of the year, after a severe drought and a spate of wildfires devastated crops.

Russia is one of the world's biggest producers of wheat, barley and rye, and the ban is likely to see bread prices rise in places like the Middle East.

The measures are designed to keep domestic food prices under control.

Russian fire season continues furious path

According to information from the Ministry of Natural Resources, from the start of the fire season through May 26, more than 10,300 wildfires occurred nationwide — up 3,500 from a year ago — and burned 278,000 hectares of forests.

New Cold War. America Threatens Russia. War Games on Russia's Doorstep.

The US is building up its weapons arsenal on Russia's border. Confirmed by US military sources, "for the first time since the end of World War II, U.S. Army soldiers are making regular rotations into Poland", to train Polish forces to use US made Patriot missiles. (Stars and Stripes, 23 July 2010)
his deployment is not an isolated event. It is coordinated with US sponsored war games and military stockpiling in major regions of the world, including the Middle East and Central Asia, the Caucasus, The Korean Peninsula and the South
We are at a dangerous crossroads in World history. The US and its allies are deploying their military might simultaneously in several regions of the World, not only threatening Iran, Syria and North Korea but it is also targeting China and Russia.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It looks as though the US government has decided upon kicking up a world war, because their collective and spectacular absence of imagination (in terms of fixing the problems it has created) renders it incapable of thinking of any thing else to do.

How Brilliant Computer Scientists Solved the Bermuda Triangle Mystery

The methane—normally frozen at great pressure as gas hydrates embedded within subterranean rock—can become dislodged and transform into gaseous bubbles expanding geometrically as they explode upwards. When these bubbles reach the surface of the water they soar into the air, still expanding upwards and outwards.
Any ships caught within the methane mega-bubble immediately lose all buoyancy and sink to the bottom of the ocean. If the bubbles are big enough and possess a high enough density they can also knock aircraft out of the sky with little or no warning. Aircraft falling victim to these methane bubbles will lose their engines-perhaps igniting the methane surrounding them-and immediately lose their lift as well, ending their flights by diving into the ocean and swiftly plummeting

10 Notorious Criminals Proven Innocent After Execution

The force of justice is designed to protect the innocent and punish the guilty, providing a fair framework around which to live our lives. Yet, what happens when justice itself goes wrong and turns to injustice? Over the years countless individuals have been put to death for crimes against society, but we’d be naïve to assume they were all as guilty as their punishment suggests. Some have later been found innocent and pardoned, others await fair reconsideration from authorities unwilling to admit to their mistakes. As the old saying goes: ‘Who shall police the police?’

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is why I cannot support the death penalty. If you wrongfully imprison someone, they can be released and compensated. But until we can give life back to those who are wrongfully killed, we should not be so quick to take life in the first place.

This article also should have mentioned the most famous wrongful execution of all, Bruno Richard Hauptman, who was executed for the Lindbergh baby kidnapping and murder on the basis of fraudulent evidence and coerced testimony.

Hydro prices to skyrocket in one province

Electricity prices in Ontario are "going up like a rocket," fuelled in part by the Ontario government's Green Energy Act, says a longtime observer of the province's energy scene.

"You are going to get screwed, and it's going to be painful," said Tom Adams, a Toronto-based consultant and a former executive director of Energy Probe.

"We're talking about hundreds of dollars a year out of your pocketbook that didn't need to happen. I'm livid about it. People should be outraged."

Hydro Ottawa customers have already been hit with a double-digit increase this year, thanks to rate hikes approved May 1 by the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) and the imposition of the harmonized sales tax July 1.

A typical consumer in Ottawa who uses 800 kilowatt hours of electricity now pays $116.82 a month, including tax, according to the OEB.

That's 17.7 per cent more than the $99.35 a month the same residential customer was paying in April. Half the increase is due to higher rates and half because of the HST.

Adams warned that Ontarians should expect to pay at least $110 more a year by the end of 2011 for electricity. That translates into an additional nine-per-cent increase.

U.S. Risks Military Clash With China In Yellow Sea

Delayed until after the United States achieved a United Nations Security Council statement on July 9 condemning the sinking of a South Korean warship in March, Washington’s plans for naval maneuvers in the Yellow Sea near Chinese territorial waters are forging ahead.
An exact date for the war games has not yet been announced, but is expected to be formalized no later than when U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Secretary of Defense Robert Gates arrive in the South Korean capital of Seoul on July 21.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Remember; although the UN Security Council condemned the sinking of the South Korean ship, it did not assign any blame for that sinking to North Korea.
Rattling sabers is not a sound way to persuade China to get its recalcitrant client state, North Korea, back to the bargaining table.
These exercises appear to be engineered to ratchet up tensions in the region, rather than diffuse them.

U.S.-China Crisis: From "Gunboat Diplomacy" to Confrontation

The maneuvers were an open challenge to and clear act of defiance toward China, following by two weeks U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's announcement in the Vietnamese capital that the U.S. was prepared to intervene in territorial disputes over the above-mentioned islands on behalf of claimants Vietnam, Taiwan, Brunei, the Philippines and Malaysia against China.

While in South Korea, Gates, Mullen and Willard confirmed plans for regular U.S.-South Korean joint military exercises, including in the Yellow Sea off the west coast of the Korean Peninsula. The bulk of the sea's coastline is Chinese territory.

Webmaster's Commentary:

China abruptly severed its military to military relations with the US in February of this year, due to US weapons sales to Taiwan.

The relationship between the two countries has continued to sour, and the US is not doing anything substantive to repair it.

These exercises are guaranteed to do one thing, and that is ratchet up the tensions in the region even further.

At a point in time where China is quietly moving out of its position in dollar holdings, one has wonder at the timing of these exercises, and precisely what they are intended to accomplish.

The US's attempting to bully China militarily may well have the absolute opposite outcome of its intended effect.

New Chinese missile 'challenges US'

China is reportedly developing a game-changing new naval missile that can pave the way for ending the US dominance at sea, experts say.
The missile, named the Dong Feng 21D, can be launched from land to destroy the most advanced moving aircraft carrier 900 miles away.

US plans another Kyrgyzstan base

The US is planning to construct a USD 10 million military base in the southern city of Osh, Kyrgyzstan, where more than 300 people died in deadly clashes in June, Press TV reported.
The US Defense Department says the base, called Osh Polygon, will feature a range of facilities and weapons training services, including a secure garrison compound with officers' quarters and barracks for enlisted personnel, range facilities, crew-served weapons and explosive ordnance, the Washington Post reported on Saturday.

61 trucks loaded with 300 tons of explosives go missing in central India

http://news.xinhuanet.com/english2010/world/2010-08/13/c_13443806.htm

NEW DELHI, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- Some 61 trucks loaded with over 300 tons of explosives have gone missing in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, a senior police official said Friday.
"The trucks were sent from a state-owned factory, Rajasthan Explosives and Chemicals Limited, in Dholpur to a private company called Ganesh Explosives in the state's Sagar district. But it never reached there," the official said.
A massive search is on to track down the trucks as fear is mounting that if the explosives, including detonators and gelatin sticks, reach the wrong hands it could be devastating, he added.
Meanwhile, Rajasthan Explosives and Chemicals Limited has claimed that it can't be blamed for this disappearance as it sent explosives only in trucks authorized by the company.

US-Vietnam nuke deal will likely allow enrichment

The Obama administration has told U.S. lawmakers that a nuclear cooperation deal with Vietnam is unlikely to include a coveted promise by the Hanoi government not to enrich uranium, congressional aides say.
The United States had sought a no-enrichment pledge, which the State Department promotes as the "gold standard" for civilian nuclear cooperation accords.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Why, when the US and Israel are pounding on Iran for their moderate enrichment of uranium for medical isotopes, is the US not insisting on a non-enrichment pledge from Vietnam on this deal?!?

Third of WHO advisers on the swine flu epidemic that never was received support from drugs firms

A third of the experts advising the World Health Organisation about the swine flu pandemic had ties to drugs firms, it has emerged.

WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION (WHO) CITED FOR PANDEMIC FRAUD

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-1302505/WHO-swine-flu-advisers-ties-drug-firms-Experts-linked-vaccine-producers.html

A third of the experts advising the World Health Organisation about the swine flu pandemic had ties to drugs firms, it has emerged.

Five of the 15 specialists who sat on the emergency committee had received funding from pharmaceutical giants, or were linked to them through their research.

The revelation will prompt speculation that the 'pandemic' was wildly overestimated and largely fuelled by the drugs industry who stood to benefit from the panic.

Last month it emerged that the Government had squandered more than £1.2 billion tackling swine flu - most of it going towards vaccines following experts' dire predictions that as many as 65,000 Britons would die.

In fact the virus claimed just 457 lives - a third of those killed every year by ordinary seasonal flu.

But today it emerged that many of the scientists on the WHO's emergency panel had links with firms including GlaxoSmithKline, who made millions manufacturing swine flu vaccines.

It follows revelations by the Daily Mail earlier this year that more than half of the scientists advising the British Government's own taskforce on the pandemic had links to drugs giants.

One of the 15 scientists advising the WHO was British professor Neil Ferguson - who last year warned the pandemic would be so bad all schools would need to close.

It has since emerged that Professor Ferguson had acted as a consultant for Roche, who makes Tamiflu, as well as GSK Biologicals until 2007.

Professor Maria Zambon, who was also on the panel, from UK Health Protection Agency's Centre for Infection, said she received funding from several vaccine makers, including Sanofi, Novartis, CSL, Baxter and GSK.

During the outbreak last year Professor Zambon warned that up to a third of school children in Britain had the virus without knowing as they did not have symptoms.

Meanwhile US professor Arnold Monto admitted he had done research for GlaxoSmithKline, Baxter, the two firms contracted to make the jabs, as well as Roche, which makes Tamiflu.

He had also done work for two other large firms Novartis and Sanofi Pasteur.

Students urged to get vaccinated to head off H1N1 virus

SPOKANE -- The start of school is just around the corner and that means the beginning of flu season. But the big question is will the H1N1 virus be as serious as last year.

Here they go again.
Even if it *is* as serious as last year, that still makes it a 'non-starter' as I remember it being not-so-serious. Still, the scare tactics begin. Will the government makes inoculations mandatory (fines, imprisonment even?)? We'll have to see... but start speaking out against it now... don't wait!

SPOKANE -- The start of school is just around the corner and that means the beginning of flu season. But the big question is will the H1N1 virus be as serious as last year.

Thousands of people across the area swarmed local vaccination clinics last years as the number of swine flu cases reached epidemic proportions. The problem then was scientists had not seen that strain of swine flu in more than 60 years. And the human immune system was also unfamiliar with it.

The flu hit hardest for college students. Washington State University saw 2,500 people come down with flu like symptoms last year. At one point, Gonzaga University saw 80 cases in two days. While in just one week, the University of Idaho saw 200 students. For those numbers alone, the health district is urging all students to get vaccinated this year.

You only need one shot this year. Scientists have combined the seasonal flu, with last year's H1N1 strain, along with two others. They should start seeing shipments by the end of September. There will be a number of school-based clinics. Colleges will also offer free shots to every student.

New this year is a flu shot for people 65 years and older. Some people with a compromised immune system will use a higher dose of the medicine.

Parents can schedule their kids' immunizations with the Spokane Regional Health District by calling the Public Health Clinic at (509) 324-1600. The SRHD's flu hotline is (509) 324-1643. SRHD also offers these FREE walk-in school immunization clinics:

Report finds drug industry funded studies almost always yield good results

A recent study published in the journal Annals of Internal Medicine has revealed that industry-funded clinical trials -- that is, drug trials funded by pharmaceutical companies -- almost always show positive results for the drugs they test. In contrast, only about half of government-funded studies show the same drugs to be safe and effective.
The results of the study may not come as much of a surprise to many who already recognize the corruption inherent in drug company-funded clinical trials. But they do broadcast this reality to a much larger audience than ever before.

Research fraud: Dr. Reuben now claims he had "bipolar disorder" which caused him to fake clinical trials

Defense attorneys for the perpetrator of one of the largest research frauds in history have claimed that their client, Scott S. Reuben, MD, suffered from "serious, but undiagnosed" bipolar disorder that led him to fabricate data and otherwise falsify his research.
Reuben graduated from medical school in 1985, and soon became a widely published and cited pain researcher. By 2009, he had published at least 72 research studies, and his work had led to a major change in the way pain is treated. But a routine audit in 2008 at Baystate Medical Center, where Reuben had worked since 1991, uncovered discrepancies in Reuben's research. This led to allegations that Reuben had not actually conducted many (or even any) of the studies that his supposedly groundbreaking findings had been based on.

Obama:

Obama’s CIA Pedigree

Obama’s CIA Pedigree
August 7, 2010
By Wayne Madsen in OpinonMaker
WMR [Wayne Madsen Report] previously reported on President Obama’s more than one year employment by a CIA front operation, Business International Corporation, Inc. (BIC) of New York after his graduation from Columbia University in 1983.However, the State Department’s recent revelation in response to a Freedom of Information Act request that the pre-1965 passport files of Obama’s mother, Ann Dunham Soetoro, were destroyed in the 1980s, has re-ignited suspicions that Obama’s mother worked for the CIA under non-official cover (NOC) cover in Indonesia while married to Lolo Soetoro Mangunharjo,

Verified CIA Front, Business International Corp, Paid for Obama’s Columbia College Tuition

After graduating from Columbia University in 1983, Barack Obama went to work for a firm called Business International Corporation (BIC), a firm that was linked to economic intelligence gathering for the CIA. For one year, Obama worked as a researcher in BIC’s financial services division where he wrote for two BIC publications, Financing Foreign Operations and Business International Money Report, a weekly newsletter. An informed source has told WMR that Obama’s tuition debt at Columbia was paid off by BIC.

Top Clinton Official: Only A Terror Attack Can Save Obama

A former senior advisor to President Bill Clinton says that the only thing which can rescue Barack Obama’s increasingly tenuous grip on power as his approval figures continue to plunge is a terror attack on the scale of Oklahoma City or 9/11, another startling reminder that such events only ever serve to benefit those in authority.
Buried in a Financial Times article about Obama’s “growing credibility crisis” and fears on behalf of Democrats that they could lose not only the White House but also the Senate to Republicans, Robert Shapiro makes it clear that Obama is relying on an October surprise in the form of a terror attack to rescue his presidency.

Material girl Michelle Obama is a modern-day Marie Antoinette on a glitzy Spanish vacation

But while most of the country is pinching pennies and downsizing summer sojourns - or forgoing them altogether - the Obamas don't seem to be heeding their own advice. While many of us are struggling, the First Lady is spending the next few days in a five-star hotel on the chic Costa del Sol in southern Spain with 40 of her "closest friends." According to CNN, the group is expected to occupy 60 to 70 rooms, more than a third of the lodgings at the 160-room resort. Not exactly what one would call cutting back in troubled times.

Webmaster's Commentary:

And who is paying for this trip, including the Air Force aircraft being used to ferry Michelle and her closest friends around?

Michelle Obama's £250,000 Spanish holiday

Michelle Obama today faced a fresh wave of attacks over her lavish break in Spain with 40 friends, which could easily cost U.S. taxpayers a staggering £50,000 a day.

One wonders why she didn't choose to vacation on the picturesque Louisiana Coast... oh yeah...

Michelle Obama at luxury Spainish resort: Gibbs asked about "the appearence" of trip

"The first lady is on a private trip. She is a private citizen and is the mother of a daughter on a private trip. And I think I'd leave it at that," Gibbs said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So who paid for the Air Force jet flying her and her entourage around and the 60 rooms they are staying in?

"We may be entering a full new Ice Age."

by the Earl of Sterling

An Italian theoretical physicist, Dr. Gianluigi Zangari says the BP Oil Disaster has caused a dramatic weakening in the vorticity of the Gulf Stream and North Atlantic Current, and a reduction in North Atlantic water temperatures by 10 Celsius.

"The breaking of a crucial warm stream ... may generate a chain reaction of unpredictable critical phenomena and ... may have serious consequences on the dynamics of the Gulf Stream thermoregulation activity of the Global Climate."

The Gulf Stream's impact on climate is well known, keeping Iceland and Scotland comfortable in winter compared to the deep-freeze of Labrador at the same latitude. The Gulf Stream directly affects weather and climate patterns over the whole Northern Hemisphere, and perhaps even world wide.

Ouf ! On a failli paniquer.

New Unemployment Claims SURGE, Hit Highest Level Since November 2009

New applications for unemployment insurance reached the half-million mark last week for the first time since November, a sign that employers are likely cutting jobs again as the economy slows.

Webmaster's Commentary:

We are at the door of September, Obama. You cannot prop up the economy, the gulf is still leaking poison into the food chain, and the dog and pony show as you rename combat troops to "transition support specialists" hasn't convinced anyone you have actually ended the war. Unless you plan to follow Bolton's advice and nuke Chicago to get a new war with Iran going, November is going to be a disaster for the incumbents, and I would not bet money on you keeping your job in 2012.

Six month high: New claims for unemployment aid reach 484,000

The employment picture is looking bleaker as applications for jobless benefits rose last week to the highest level in almost six months.

US economy sheds 131,000 jobs

The US economy shed more jobs than expected in July, the Labor Department said Friday, heightening fears that the world's largest economy will take years to fully recover from a crippling recession.
Some 131,000 jobs were lost and the unemployment rate remained stuck at 9.5 percent, officials said, as federal and local governments slashed jobs.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So this is the "recovery summer" Obama and the Democrats are touting?!?
I think not.
And that 9.5% unemployment figure is most probably pegged way too low.

Youth Unemployment Hits Record High

Global youth unemployment has hit a record high following the financial crisis and is likely to get worse later this year, the International Labor Organization (ILO) said Thursday.
