Busloads of police were brought into New York, some from distant communities. The national press, generously called the “mainstream media” reported none of this today. There was a defacto news blackout about the scale and nature of what is happening in New York City today.
Checkpoints have been set up around New York, a city closed down, “tight as a tick.” We are told the “drill” is designed to test the ability to detect “dirty bomb”materials but intelligence sources tell us that the idea of a “dirty bomb” is something out of TV drama and phony White House briefings.

DOD: Terrorists are altering the climate and causing earthquakes! No, really; they are!
http://www.defense.gov/Transcripts/Transcript.aspx?TranscriptID=674
Alvin Toeffler has written about this in terms of some scientists in their laboratories trying to devise certain types of pathogens that would be ethnic specific so that they could just eliminate certain ethnic groups and races; and others are designing some sort of engineering, some sort of insects that can destroy specific crops. Others are engaging even in an eco- type of terrorism whereby they can alter the climate, set off earthquakes, volcanoes remotely through the use of electromagnetic waves.
So there are plenty of ingenious minds out there that are at work finding ways in which they can wreak terror upon other nations. It's real, and that's the reason why we have to intensify our efforts, and that's why this is so important.

Oil From BP Spill Found on Dead Dolphins in Gulf of Mexico
http://www.aolnews.com/2011/04/08/oil-from-bp-spill-found-on-dead-dolphins-in-gulf-of-mexico/
Researchers have traced oil found on dead dolphins in the Gulf of Mexico to the BP Deepwater Horizon spill but say it's not yet clear whether the oil caused their deaths.
Hundreds of bottlenose dolphins have washed up dead in the Gulf in the past year, an unexplained rise in deaths that has scientists concerned. Oil on six of the dolphins has been directly linked to BP's blown-out well, but researchers say it's too soon to conclude whether or not the oil was responsible or if their demise was caused by something entirely unrelated, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said.
Webmaster's Commentary:
It's great to be the kind of huge campaign contributor like PB, because it means never having to take real responsibility for the ecological catastrophes you create.
And guess what?!? They're most likely to be coming back to drill again in the Gulf of Mexico!!

"BP hopes to resume Drilling in the Gulf of Mexico"
"BP could resume drilling in the Gulf of Mexico as early as July, less than 15 months after an accident that killed 11 workers and led to the worst offshore oil disaster in US waters."
The UK oil group has struck a deal with US regulators, under which it will be allowed to drill 10 existing wells that were under way before the accident and which it needs in order to maintain or increase production on existing platforms, according to sources familiar with the situation. BP declined to comment."
Unflipping believable.
Deepwater Horizon Blowout Gear Was Overdue for Maintenance
The blowout preventer that failed on a BP Plc well last year, leading to the worst U.S. offshore oil spill, was four years overdue for maintenance under driller Transocean Ltd.’s internal guidelines, a U.S. regulator said.
Webmaster's Commentary:

Report: BP to restart deepwater drilling in Gulf
In a deal with U.S. regulators, BP this summer plans to restart deepwater drilling in the Gulf of Mexico on 10 wells in exchange for tougher safety rules, British media reported Sunday.
The London-based oil giant promised to abide by rules that are stricter than guidelines set after the April 20, 2010, blast on the Deepwater Horizon rig that killed 11 workers, The Financial Times and The Sunday Times of London reported. The accident, which released almost 200 million gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico, was the largest marine spill in U.S. history.
BP confirmed it had provided very detailed plans, the U.K. Press Association said Sunday.
The terms reportedly also include:
* Allowing U.S. regulators 24-hour access to any of its deepwater wells.
BP hopes to resume in July drilling that was suspended after the disaster. It could seek approval for renewed exploratory drilling later in 2011, the Sunday Times reported.
The company had 10 deepwater Gulf wells in the process of being drilled when the U.S. imposed a moratorium following the disaster.
BP in talks to resume Gulf drilling
Oil giant BP is in talks with U.S. regulators about a resumption of drilling in the Gulf of Mexico this summer, according to news reports Sunday.
But the Interior Department is rebutting British media reports of an agreement.
US government denies BP drilling deal
WASHINGTON (AFP) - US Interior Secretary Kenneth Salazar vehemently denied the government had reached a deal to allow BP to restart drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, nearly a year after the disastrous oil spill there.
Speaking by conference call from Mexico City, Salazar denied rumors that the government was cooking up an agreement with the British firm -- which was castigated after its damaged Macondo well disgorged 205 million gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico last year.
Salazar said flatly that there was "absolutely no truth to the rumor" that the BP was near to a pact to restart drilling at 10 of its Gulf wells...
H1N1 Swine Flu Vaccine Linked To Disabling Disorder – Recall Issued In Europe
A swine flu recall has been issued to all general practitioners to return the Pandemrix H1N1 swine flu vaccine after scientists link the drug to a disabling sleep disorder and a wide range of adverse reactions.

The vaccine has been linked to the disabling sleep disorder, narcolepsy.

Johnson & Johnson fined for bribing doctors
US authorities fined cosmetics and drugs giant Johnson & Johnson $70 million on Friday for bribing doctors in Europe and paying kickbacks for contracts under a UN relief program in Iraq.

Pfizer Admits Guilt in Promotion of Neurontin--Agrees to Pay $430 Million
"The commercially successful marketing "miracle" of Nuerontin was achieved through a collaborative effort of the company and leading physicians who were given financial incentives to encourage their colleagues--under the pretext of providing "continuing medical education"--to prescribe a largely ineffective drug for unapproved, diverse and unrelated conditions. Essentially physicians were "educated" to use their prescribing license to increase profits rather than to improve their patients' health. The Wall Street Journal reports that studies have found off-label use accounted for 40% to 50% of all prescriptions."

Israel Attacks Gaza: Operation Scorching Summer
Israeli apache helicopters open fire at Palestinian houses in the heavily populated neighbourhood of Shuja’eya east of Gaza. There are also reports of Israeli military boats firing at houses. Hamas warns Israel: Halt air strikes on Gaza or we'll intensify rocket fire
Hamas said on Saturday it would escalate its attacks against Israel to include a wider range of targets if Israel failed to halt its aerial assaults on the Gaza Strip.
Dozens of rockets and mortar shells were fired into Israel on Saturday, as the IDF launched several strikes on Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip, killing at least four Hamas operatives, one of them a senior commander.
Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri blamed Israel for an escalation in violence. "If the Israeli escalation continues, amid international silence and complicity, the reactions by resistance factions will broaden," he told Reuters, saying such actions would be necessary to protect Palestinians in Gaza.

Sudan Accuses Israel Of Attack; Khartoum 'Reserves The Right To React'
Reuters
KHARTOUM - Sudan's Foreign Minister Ali Karti on Wednesday accused Israel of carrying out an attack on Tuesday near Port Sudan that killed two people and said Khartoum reserved the right to react to the aggression.
"This is absolutely an Israeli attack," he told reporters.
He said Israel undertook the attack in order scupper Sudan's chances of being removed from a U.S. list of state sponsors of terrorism.
One of the two people killed in the strike was a Sudanese citizen who had no ties to Islamists or the government, he said.
Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor declined to comment on the accusation.

Israeli Official Admits to Tuesday Attack on Sudan
An unnamed senior military official in Israel has confirmed Wednesday that a Tuesday attack on Sudan was carried out by the Israeli military. The confirmation came after a “no comment” response from the military itself.

9/11 first responder death toll nears 1,000
Permit me to make some suggestions regarding the poisons those responders who died carried in them, and those that survived may be carrying with them now. These are based on the excellent film documentary, Dust To Dust—The health effects of 9/11, made by Heidi Dehncke-Fisher, a film I reviewed in 911’s second round of slaughter.
During the opening, Dehncke-Fisher supers on the screen “a short list” of some of the 2,500 deadly contaminants that erupted from the explosion of the World Trade Center Towers, that is, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, plus two fuel-laden jetliners that all turned into a toxic gray dust that hung in the air, as well as settled in people’s lungs, on area streets, vehicles, buildings, residences, both outside and inside the city for months . . .

Obama U-turn: US to try 9/11 accused at Guantanamo
Editor's Note: Thank goodness for the government turning the justice system upside-down for our safety. "For the sake of the safety and security of the American people, I’m glad the president reconsidered his position on how and where to try these detainees," says Mitch McConnell.
WASHINGTON (AFP) - In a major about-face, the Obama administration said on Monday that 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four alleged co-conspirators will be tried by a military tribunal at Guantanamo rather than a civilian court in New York.
Attorney General Eric Holder announced the U-turn, saying that the accused 9/11 plotters could have been successfully prosecuted in a federal court, but blamed Congress for approving restrictions blocking trials of Guantanamo inmates in the United States.
I wonder if anybody recalls the painting by the Victorian artist W. F. Yeames called "When did you last see your father?" which shows a small boy, the son of a Royalist on the run from Cromwell, being interrogated by a Parliamentarian military tribunal during the British Civil War/War of the Three Kingdoms?
This experience with these tribunals affected the British so fundamentally as an abuse of the established legal system of habeas corpus, due process, presumption of innocence, and proper evidentiary rules that the British North Americans were very careful to write into their Revolutionary Constitution and Bill of Rights how everybody in the 13 Colonies should live under the Rule of Law as established.
Bush II, or rather his handlers, and those of Obama, have been very active in destroying this for their own nefarious reasons.
These people at the Guantanamo Bay gulag will not get any justice from any military tribunals: a fact that is appreciated by the Justice Department, and which is apparently afraid of them having their days in a proper court.

Corn Stockpiles Dropping in U.S. as Meat, Ethanol Demand Widens
Corn stockpiles in the U.S., the world’s largest grower, are plunging to a 15-year low and may be smaller than the government forecast last month as rising demand from makers of feed and ethanol drive prices higher.
Stockpiles on Sept. 1, before the harvest, will drop 66 percent from a year earlier to 589 million bushels, a Bloomberg survey of 30 analysts showed. That’s 13 percent less than a March 10 estimate by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which will update its forecast today. Tightening supply led Goldman Sachs Group Inc. to raise its corn-price forecast last week.
Gavilon to buy Union Elevator PNW grain elevators
U.S. grain firm Gavilon Grain said on Thursday it will buy Union Elevator and Warehouse's 16 grain elevators in the Pacific Northwest, the company's second big purchase of U.S. grain facilities in the last six months.
Webmaster's Commentary:
This may seem innocuous, but it is the start of an alarming display of true vulture capitalism a work. George Soros is the principle backer of Gavilon Grain, and this is just one of several purchases evincing a design to monopolize food production in the United States.
The reason is obvious.
Soros knows that Pacific Sea food is going to vanish fro the food market. Even today the Japanese TV news is showing row on row of empty fish counters in the markets. Soros knows that if he controls a major part of US food production in a time of food shortages, his present fortune ill seem like pocket change compared to the fortune he will rip from the fingers of starving Americans.
This is real money-addiction on full display and underscores why I feel the time has come to de-centralize our society; especially finance and government.
This is he warning shot. The money-junkies will starve you to grab the last few pennies from your pocket.

Big Banks to New Jersey: Stop Bugging Us About Foreclosure Documents
Most of the banks' briefs then argued, with varying degrees of aggressiveness, that the court doesn't have the power to impose a foreclosure moratorium or appoint a special master because that would break court rules, violate New Jersey's Constitution and the U.S. Constitution -- including the banks' due process rights -- and overstep the judiciary's role. They also claimed it was generally wrong because the banks were regulated federally. Only Chase declined to challenge the court's authority to impose the moratorium or appoint a special master.

US Banks Reporting Phantom Income on $1.4 Trillion Delinquent Mortgages
The giant US banks have been bailed out again from huge potential writeoffs by loosey-goosey accounting accepted by the accounting profession and the regulators.
They are allowed to accrue interest on non-performing mortgages ” until the actual foreclosure takes place, which on average takes about 16 months.
All the phantom interest that is not actually collected is booked as income until the actual act of foreclosure. As a resullt, many bank financial statements actually look much better than they actually are. At foreclosure all the phantom income comes off gthe books of the banks.
This means that Bank of America, Citigroup, JP Morgan and Wells Fargo, among hundreds of other smaller institutions, can report interest due them, but not paid, on an estimated $1.4 trillion of face value mortgages on the 7 million homes that are in the process of being foreclosed.
Ultimately, these banks face a potential loss of $1 trillion on nonperforming loans, suggests Madeleine Schnapp, director of macro-economic research at Trim-Tabs, an economic consulting firm 24.5% owned by Goldman Sachs.
The potential writeoffs could be even larger should home prices continue to weaken, placing more homes in the nomnperforming category on bank balance sheets.
About 6 million homes are still at risk, according to Schnapp, and at least 10% of them are 25% underwater, meaning their market value is 25% less than the mortgage– but the owners are still paying interest to their banks.
Webmaster's Commentary:
UNFLIPPING BELIEVABLE!!
All those people who have bought foreclosures and are considering buying a foreclosure will need to watch this ruling carefully.
The Massachusetts Supreme Court had ruled two weeks ago, MERS had no rights to foreclose on property.
Now they are going to rule on another case of a buyers right to the property, that was illegally foreclosed on by a MERS bank.
A lower Massachusetts court had already ruled against the buyer of a foreclosure, saying they had no right to the property, due to being foreclosed on fraudulently by a MERS bank.
That court case is now going to the Supreme Court, as the buyer is trying to keep the property he purchased 3 years ago from the bank.

Foreclosure fraud: AG releases critical report
Sweeping evidence of mortgage fraud was outlined in the 98-page presentation complete with copies of alleged forged signatures, false notarizations, bogus witnesses and improper mortgage assignments. Examples of alleged fraud and missteps made during the securitization process by major financial institutions when they wrote, packaged, and sold mortgages during the boom years was also provided.
The "Unfair, Deceptive and Unconscionable Acts in Foreclosure Cases" presentation meticulously documents cases of questionable signatures, notarizations that could not have occurred when claimed due to expired notary commissions and foreclosures filed by banks or law firms that lacked legal standing to foreclose on a particular property.
Webmaster's Commentary:
This has not only happened in Florida: this has also happened most probably in every other state in the US.
The point of Foreclosuregate was to bring back houses under the banks' financial control to make their balance sheets look better, after the banks were forced to buy back fraudulent mortgage backed securities.
Judge holds bankers in contempt, threatens jail
Representatives from six major banks that skipped a hearing in a Miami condo association receivership case could face the wrath of Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Jennifer Bailey today if they fail to show up a second time.
The judge already has declared lenders that own or are foreclosing on units at Bird Grove Condo are on the hook for $105,999 in expenses for the court-appointed receiver for the association. She also held the six in contempt of court.

Bankers apparently hold themselves to be above the law!
The courts in New York State, along with Florida, have begun requiring that lawyers in foreclosure cases vouch for the accuracy of the documents they present, which prompted a protest from the New York bar. The requirement, which is being considered by courts in other states, could open lawyers to disciplinary actions that could harm or even end careers.

10000 Foreclosures TOSSED OUT in ONE Ruling in Maryland - Fraud Notary!

I have new HEROES! The University of Maryland, stopped talking and took action to SUE GMAC and their foreclosures due to Robo Signing Notary! The judge TOSSED OUT ALL THE FORECLOSURES!
In a major ruling Friday, a coalition of nonprofit defense lawyers and consumer protection advocates in Maryland successfully got over 10,000 foreclosure cases managed by GMAC Mortgage tossed out, because affidavits in the cases were signed by Jeffrey Stephan, the infamous GMAC “robo-signer” who attested to the authenticity of foreclosure documents without any knowledge about them, as well as signing other false statements.
The University of Maryland Consumer Protection Clinic and Civil Justice, Inc., a nonprofit, filed the class action lawsuit, arguing that any case using Jeffrey Stephan as a signer was illegitimate and must be dismissed. In court Friday, GMAC agreed to dismiss every case in Maryland relying on a Stephan affidavit. They can refile foreclosure actions on the close to 10,000 homes, but only at their own expense, and subject to new Maryland regulations which require mandatory mediation between borrower and lender before moving to foreclosure.
The Wall Street Journal noted last week:
Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke on Friday ruled out a central bank bailout of state and local governments strapped with big municipal debt burdens, saying the Fed had limited legal authority to help and little will to use that authority.
“We have no expectation or intention to get involved in state and local finance,” Mr. Bernanke said in testimony before the Senate Budget Committee. The states, he said later, “should not expect loans from the Fed.”

An Ohio Judge is requiring all attorneys for banks trying to foreclose on people, to sign and verify ALL foreclosure documents are valid and not fraud. Well, the Ohio bank foreclosing attorneys are not happy about that at all! They have filed suit in the Ohio Supreme court requesting a reversal of the Judges order.
Now, I have a question, if everything was on the up and up and it was not fraud, why would bank attorneys be so upset, with having to only file valid paperwork? Jeez, isn't all their paperwork suppose to be legal, they are attorneys after all, who are suppose to go by the laws.
Banks drop foreclosures in Southwest Florida
Banks in recent weeks have been dropping hundreds of their Southwest Florida foreclosure lawsuits instead of facing defendants at trial, according to local attorneys and court records.

Hopefully the banks will realize that the American people have figured out that the government and bankers working together created a job situation which allowed banks to confiscate homes to bail themselves out of the fraudulent mortgage-backed security scandal, and that maybe Americans no longer believe that it is their own fault they are losing their homes. And that taking a home when the owner knows it is all a scam is fraught with peril! :)
Home Price Declines Now Exceed The Great Depression, Prices Fall For 53rd STRAIGHT Month
(Reuters) - Home prices fell for the 53rd consecutive month, taking the decline past that of the Great Depression for the first time in the prolonged housing slump.
Home prices have fallen 26 percent since their peak in 2006, exceeding the 25.9 percent drop registered in the five years between 1928 and 1933, the housing data company said in a report.

The U.S. economy is now operating like a finely tuned engine bent on dismantling the middle class and protecting the tiny elites in our nation that have learned to manipulate both political parties to their financial benefit. This did not occur over night but started in the 1970s when the U.S. government and investment banks juiced up the nation with deficit and debt spending.
La Fed en faillite depuis le 6 janvier 2011…
http://www.moneyweek.fr/20110350479/actualites/actu-economie/fed-mbs-banques-faillites/

FURTHER minute traces of radiation from the stricken Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan have been detected in Scotland.
They were in grass and air samples from across the country, a freshwater sample in Caithness and a rainwater sample, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) and Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa) reported.
However, concentrations of radioactive iodine-131 from the nuclear site nearly 6,000 miles away, which was damaged by a tsunami four weeks ago, were of "no concern" to health.
Sepa said the isotope had also been detected in sewage sludge in Glasgow, but this could have come from a combination of rain and authorised discharges from hospitals. The HPA said the levels of radiation measured by air monitors would give a dose equivalent to about 1/10,000 of that received from natural radiation.

1. U.S. Weather Bureau, Washington 25, D.C.Abstract
An examination of possible sources of radioiodine found in samples of milk in the midwestern states during May and early June 1962 shows that atmospheric testing at Christmas Island was the principal contributor to incidents of significant concentrations of iodine-131 in milk (exceeding 300 picocuries per liter). Underground testing at Nevada played at most only a minor role during this period. There is a cause-and-effect relationship between the penetration of thunderstorms into high concentrations of nuclear debris in the lower stratosphere and the subsequent amount of iodine-131 in milk. Analyses of samples of rainwater confirm the importance of this "scavenging" mechanism. The relative contributions of atmospheric and underground testing to the iodine-131 found in milk samples from September 1961 to December 1963 has been reviewed and only one incident in which the amount of iodine-131 exceeded 300 picocuries per liter could be attributed to an underground test.

News Alert: Powerful 7.4 earthquake hits northeastern Japan. Tsunami warning issued #news #japan
Webmaster's Commentary:
As a general rule, a large quake can expect one major aftershock about a magnitude less. This may have been it. The real danger here is that the containment on the damaged reactors at Fukushima are filled with water and seawater to cool the reactor cores. Holding that mass of water instead of air is not a normal mode of operation and adding a major quake on top of it may spring a few more leaks.
“Blinding”Blue Light/Flash Seen During Earthquake In Japan, Nuclear Plants Lose Power
Two nuclear power plants in Japan have lost power and are currently running on back up generators after another huge quake rocked Japan.
“At 12:23 a.m. the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency, an arm of the Japanese government, began holding an emergency press conference. An official said external sources of electricity have been cut to both the Higashi-Dori nuclear power plant in Aomori Pref., in northern Japan and the Rokkasho nuclear recycling plant, which I wrote in the latest issue of Forbes magazine . Both plants are reportedly operating normally via on-site emergency generators,“wrote Yas Idei, writing for Forbes in Japan.
Reuters has reported that officials have restarted the cooling systems at the Onagawa nuclear plant.

Radioactive Water Spilled At Onagawa Nuclear Plant In Miyagi
http://e.nikkei.com/e/fr/tnks/Nni20110408D08JF393.htm
TOKYO (Kyodo)--Radioactive water spilled from pools holding spent nuclear fuel rods at the Onagawa power plant in Miyagi Prefecture following the strong earthquake late Thursday, the nuclear safety agency said Friday.
The Onagawa nuclear power plant in Miyagi Prefecture
At the crisis-hit Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant or at another plant in Fukushima Prefecture, meanwhile, no new problems have surfaced since the magnitude 7.1 aftershock of the deadly March 11 quake.
While the spent fuel pools at the Onagawa plant and the Higashidori nuclear power station in Aomori Prefecture, both operated by Tohoku Electric Power Co., lost their cooling functions for 20 to 80 minutes after the quake, the temperature hardly rose, the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency said.
A small amount of contaminated water spilled on the floor was observed inside the buildings at all three reactors at the Onagawa plant, which has suspended operations since the mega earthquake and tsunami last month, according to the agency.
In all, water spilled or leaked at eight sections of the plant as a result of the 11:32 p.m. quake, according to Tohoku Electric.
As much as 3.8 liters of water leaked at one of them, with the highest level of a radioactive isotope -- 5,410 bequerels per kilogram -- found in the spilled water on the floor beside a spent fuel pool in the building housing the No. 1 reactor.

Cobalt 60 found; Fukushima Has Long Since Passed the Level of Three Mile Island
TEPCO, the Japanese government, and other organizations have been getting more open with data, but many important documents are not being translated quickly and there is little effort to bring the findings together in an easily understood way. See here for TEPCO’s analysis of the radioactive water in the No. 3 reactor building. Satoko Norimatsu has provided English translations of the compounds being measured.

Technetium 99m
Iodine 131
Cesium 134
Cesium 136
Cesium 137
Barium 137
Lanthanum 140
Cerium 144
These reports have been followed by a press release by the Institute for Energy and Environmental Research in the United States. IEER states that “Radioactive iodine releases from Japan’s Fukushima Daiichi reactors may exceed those of Three Mile Island by over 100,000 times.” It adds that “the three damaged reactors and four spent fuel pools at Fukushima Daiichi contain far more long-lived radioactivity, notably cesium-137, than the Chernobyl reactor.”
The IEER release points out that The French radiation protection authority, Institut de Radioprotection et de Sûreté Nucléaire (IRSN), estimates the radioactive releases of iodine-131 in Japan had reached about 2.4 million curies by March 22, 2011. That is about 160,000 times the best estimate of the amount released during the TMI accident in Pennsylvania (15 curies) and about 140,000 times the maximum estimate of 17 curies. It is about 10 percent of the estimated amount released during the Chernobyl accident, according to the IRSN.
“This accident has long since passed the level of Three Mile Island,” said Dr. Arjun Makhijani, president of the Institute for Energy and Environmental Research (IEER). “While the releases are still considerably below Chernobyl, they have already reached a level that could affect the region around the site for a prolonged period. It is simply a fantasy and highly misleading for the official accident level to remain at level 5, given the estimated radioactivity releases and the extended evacuation, contamination of food and water, and other countermeasures that have already been ordered by the government.”
Did the nitrogen injection backfire?
The graph shows, that the radiation in the dry well (D/W) of reactor no 1 cannot be measured anymore. The meter stops at 100 sieverts/hour. In the torus/suppression chamber (S/C)there has been no change since yesterday so far.

Tepco: No Concrete Tomb Because We Want That Fuel First
From the Mainichi Daily News, Mainichi, Japan. Human translated, summary by T. Marks, subsequent editing & emphasis mine.
TEPCO won't take Chernobyl approach to resolving nuclear power plant crisis Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO) adviser Toshiaki Enomoto is pictured at the company's Tokyo head office. It may take 10 years to start removing damaged nuclear fuel from the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant, but the plant's operator is adamant not to bury the damaged reactors while fuel remains in them, a company official has said: "We will definitely remove the fuel." Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO) adviser Toshiaki Enomoto stressed that the company would not bury the reactors in concrete in a "stone tomb" approach like the one adopted at Chernobyl.
TEPCO chairman Tsunehisa Katsumata has announced plans to decommission the plant's No. 1 through 4 reactors. Normally it takes 20 to 30 years to decommission a reactor, but the process at the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant is expected to take even longer as workers must start by developing specialized equipment to remove damaged fuel.
New methods to remove the fuel must be developed, and it will take 10 years before workers can start removing fuel, he said.
Ongoing Cover Up of Nuclear Crisis By Governments and Nuclear Power Companies
Years before Fukushima engineer Mitsuhiko Tanaka blew the whistle on the fact that Tepco covered up a defective containment vessel, the above-quoted Japan Times article blew the whistle:
Yoichi Kikuchi, a Japanese nuclear engineer who also became a whistle-blower, has told me personally of many safety problems at Japan's nuclear power plants, such as cracks in pipes in the cooling system from vibrations in the reactor. He said the electric companies are "gambling in a dangerous game to increase profits and decrease government oversight."
Tepco
Tepco is covering up crucial information, including:
- After Gundersen pointed out that the existence of tellurium at Fukushima implies that re-criticality is coming, Tepco pulled the data, saying that the data is no longer accurate
- Tepco is denying that a blue neutron beam - also indicating re-criticality - has been observed
- Tepco has tried to deny the report of an eminent nuclear scientist that reactor number 2 had suffered a meltdown
Foreign Nuclear Companies
It's not just Tepco. Foreign nuclear companies are covering up as well.
For example, the large french nuclear corporation, Areva, has privately determined that:
- At reactors 1 through 3, the nuclear fuel reached 5,000 degrees, beyond the melting point of steel and the zirconium cladding of the spent fuel rods
- Containment in reactor number 2 was breached by hydrogen explosions. While the roof of reactor number 2 looks good (see photograph below), the hydrogen explosion blew out the containment, like a sneeze with your nose pinched and mouth closed will pop your ears:
- Crops and dairy products are polluted out to 50 kilometers from the nuclear site, well beyond what emergency zone is
- Unit 4 experienced "core melt in fresh air". The core melted because the fuel pool was cracked in the earthquake. The largest release is from reactor number 4. Because there is no containment as to the materials in the spent fuel rods, all fission products can be volatilized
- The person who prepared the Areva report said: "Clearly, we are witnessing one of the greatest disasters of our time."
But publicly, Areva is saying no problem, nuclear is safe.
Nuclear Regulatory Commission
NRC staff privately identified significant problems and dangers at Fukushima, including:
- A lot of "mud" inside the reactor, from injection of seawater
- The weight of building with all of the water in them might make it unstable in case of another earthquake
- Recriticitality of nuclear fuel.
- Plutonium ejected from fuel pools during the hydrogen explosion. NRC thinks that plutonium was ejected a couple of miles from the reactor
But the NRC is telling Congress and the public that the situation is under control.
Japan Nuclear Radiation 4 Times Chernobyl Levels OUTSIDE Evacuation Zone
This comes from a Japanese news release on asashi.com
Independent scientists find radiation levels beyond Japan evacuation zone are 4 times higher than Chernobyl levels beyond the 30km evacuation zone and higher than official government reported numbers.
The Japanese New Service Asashi reports that radiation levels measured by a collaboration of independent scientists from Kyoto University and Hiroshima university refute the official radiation levels released by the Government of Japan.
Radiation levels 400 times normal are expected to remain in communities beyond the 30km evacuation zone.
The scientists pointed out the official Government radiation levels included only two types of radioactive isotopes. Scientists from the university say they have detected 6 radioactive isotopes and have provided new estimates with showing higher levels of radiation being released based on the inclusion of the additional isotopes detected.
The study results are considered more accurate than the study conducted by the science ministry, which only released information concerning two types of radioactive material.
Tetsuji Imanaka, an associate professor of nuclear engineering at the Kyoto University Research Reactor Institute, Satoru Endo, an associate professor of radiation physics at Hiroshima University, and other experts visited Iitate in late March.
They collected soil samples from five locations in the village at depths of five centimeters. All the locations were outside the 30-km radius and were by roadways in various hamlets.
The study found cesium-137 at levels between about 590,000 and 2.19 million becquerels per cubic meter.
After the Chernobyl nuclear accident in the former Soviet Union in 1986, residents who lived in areas where cesium-137 levels exceeded 555,000 becquerels were forced to move elsewhere.
The amounts of cesium-137 found in Iitate were at most four times the figure from Chernobyl.
If more radioactive materials are emitted from the crippled Fukushima plant, the level of cesium-137 could rise even further.
Calculations were also made of changes in the radiation level in the air one meter above contaminated ground over a three-month period from March 15, when an explosion occurred at the Fukushima plant.
The study found that even after three months there would be between 7 and 21 microsieverts per hour being emitted from the contaminated soil into the air.
If an individual remained outdoors for the entire three-month period, the person would be exposed to between 30 and 95 millisieverts over the period.
Assuming the cesium remains in the soil, the accumulated level of radiation after one year could be between about 70 and 220 millisieverts.
The central government is considering using an accumulated radiation exposure figure of 20 millisieverts over the course of a year as one indicator of whether an evacuation instruction should be issued.
The cesium-137 could move or be washed away by rain and wind, so there is the possibility that the actual accumulated radiation exposure figure could fall below the study’s estimates.

Powerful Aftershock Complicates Japan’s Nuclear Efforts, New York Times, April 7, 2011:
NYT
… At No. 2, extremely radioactive material continues to ooze out of the reactor pressure vessel, and the leak is likely to widen with time, a western nuclear executive asserted.
“It’s a little like pulling a thread out of your tie,” said the executive, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to protect business connections in Japan. “Any breach gets bigger.”
Flashes of extremely intense radioactivity have become a serious problem, he said. Tokyo Electric’s difficulties in providing accurate information on radiation are not a result of software problems, as some Japanese officials have suggested, but stem from damage to measurement instruments caused by radiation, the executive said. …
A big aftershock is thought to pose an additional risk to the Fukushima plant because its containment structures, now filled with water that is highly radioactive, may be more vulnerable to rupture, according to an assessment by the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission in late March.
Two other nuclear facilities — a fuel reprocessing plant at Rokkasho and a power plant at Higashidori, both in northern Aomori Prefecture — were running on emergency diesel generators after their external power was knocked out. The single reactor at Higashidori is shut down for maintenance, and all nuclear fuel has been transferred to spent fuel pools, which are being cooled by back-up diesel power, according to the operator, Tohoku Electric.
A third site, the Onagawa Nuclear Power Station in Miyagi Prefecture, lost two of its three external power systems, and cooling stopped temporarily at a spent fuel pool there, Tohoku Electric said. All three plants have been shut down since the March 11 quake, but power is needed to cool the nuclear fuel.
The police say about 12,600 people have died as a result of the March 11 earthquake and tsunami. More than 14,700 are listed as missing.
Still, concerns about the plant remain high. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission speculated Wednesday that some of the core of the No. 2 reactor had flowed from its steel pressure vessel into the bottom of the containment structure. The theory implies more damage at the unit than previously believed.
While a spokeswoman for Tokyo Electric dismissed the analysis, a spokesman for the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency of Japan agreed that it was possible that the core had leaked into the larger containment vessel.
The possibility raised new questions. The Nuclear Regulator Commission said that its speculation about the flow of core material out of the reactor vessel would explain high radiation readings in an area underneath, called the drywell.
But some of the radiation readings at Reactors Nos. 1 and 3 over the last week were nearly as high as or higher than the 3,300 rems per hour that the commission said it was trying to explain, so it would appear that the speculation would apply to them as well. At No.
Broken pieces of fuel rods have been found outside of Reactor No. 2, and are now being covered with bulldozers, he said. The pieces may be from rods in the spent-fuel pools that were flung out by hydrogen explosions.

TEPCO entertaining no hopes of quick fix
It has been nearly a month since the earthquake and tsunami devastated northeastern Japan, but the situation surrounding the reactors at Tokyo Electric Power Co.'s Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant remains perilous.
TEPCO is considering installing additional cooling systems as part of a new plan to stabilize the reactors damaged by the March 11 disaster.
According to estimates released by the utility Wednesday, 70 percent of fuel rods at the No. 1 reactor have been damaged. At the Nos. 2 and 3 reactors, 25 percent to 30 percent of fuel rods have been damaged, the utility said.
TEPCO steps up effort to remove contaminated water
http://www3.nhk.or.jp/daily/english/09_15.html
The operator of the damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant has stepped up its effort to remove highly radioactive water that is hampering restoration of reactor cooling systems.
Tokyo Electric Power Company says contaminated water in a concrete tunnel of the Number 2 reactor has risen 10 centimeters since leakage of the water into the ocean stopped on Wednesday.
The plant operator says a strong aftershock on Thursday night did not damage any facilities of the compound, but the surface temperature of the Number 1 reactor rose sharply immediately after the tremor that hit northeastern Japan minutes before midnight.
The reading stood at 223 degrees Celsius at 7 PM, but it rose nearly 40 degrees just after the quake. The temperature had fallen back to 240 degrees at 6 AM on Saturday.
TEPCO says it will continue close monitoring as what caused the sudden rise in temperature is not known.
Webmaster's Commentary:
So after all the media celebration that the leak was plugged, they are still going to pump that radioactive water into the ocean anyway!
The International Atomic Energy Agency views the accident in Japan as one more serious than the partial core meltdown at Three Mile Island, but says it's nowhere near the scale of the disaster that occurred in Ukraine twenty-five years ago. Yet each day, tests detect more contamination. Low levels of iodine-131 and cesium-137 in the drinking water of several prefectures, albeit "at levels far below those that would initiate recommendations for restrictions of drinking water," are high enough to prompt warnings for infants. The Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare has detected very low-level contamination in spinach, leafy vegetables, and some meat.

His photographs show horror in black and white: An intelligent, lively four-year-old with almost no lymphatic system, his limbs swollen into monstrous trunks; a toddler whose torso blossoms into a tumor that cannot be removed, since his kidneys are contained within it; a baby born with its brain outside its body; children slithering around the floor, wordless pack animals, groaning and rolling, eating from bowls like dogs.
Fusco spent many months, over three visits, exploring state-run facilities dedicated to taking care of children damaged by radiation. They receive suitable care and affection, but no education. Many were born years after the 1986 accident and handed over at birth by devastated parents.
"Everything, anything that can go wrong with a body was there, and more," says Fusco. "It's astonishing the amount, the different kinds of destruction. It was like looking at a different race."
While his work found an audience in Europe, he says it received little attention from the press in the United States. However, after last month's catastrophe at the Fukushima Da-ichi plant in Japan, some have stumbled upon his Chernobyl Legacy slideshow at the Magnum Photos website, with its haunting music and forthright narration, and, trying to make sense of the situation, linked to his photographs online. (Fair warning: The photos are graphic.)
Webmaster's Commentary:
I want you to take a good hard look at the child in this picture, and have this image singed into your consciousness every time the Japanese government, the US government, TEPCO, and GE collectively swear that "there is nothing to worry about" from the levels of radiation coming out of the Fukujima reactor.
Virtually all the numbers you're seeing about the radioactivity coming out of Fukushima are based on iodine-131 which only has a half-life of 8 days, not the far more dangerous cesium-137 which has a half-life of 30 years. So while the mainstream media reports that "radiation levels are falling rapidly" from the 7.5 million times reading taken a few days ago, what they're not telling you is that the cesium-137 radioactivity will take 30 years just to fall by 50 percent.
It's the great global cover-up in all this: What happens to all the radioactive cesium being dumped into the ocean right now? It doesn't just burn itself out in a few months like iodine-131. This stuff sticks around for centuries.
US trains activists to evade security forces
AFP
WASHINGTON (AFP) - The United States is training thousands of cell phone and Internet pro-democracy campaigners worldwide to evade security forces in what it calls a "cat-and-mouse game" with authoritarian governments.
The US government is sponsoring efforts to help activists in Arab and other countries gain access to technology that circumvents government firewalls, secures telephone text and voice messages, and prevents attacks on websites.
"This is sort of a cat-and-mouse game and governments are constantly developing new techniques to go after critics, to go after dissenters," said Michael Posner, the assistant US secretary of state for human rights and labor.
"We are trying to stay ahead of the curve and trying to basically provide both technology, training, and diplomatic support to allow people to freely express their views."
Posner told a small group of reporters that the theme of Internet freedom will be "peppered" throughout the State Department's annual report on human rights for 194 countries that is scheduled for release on Friday.
The chief US diplomat has said the protests in Egypt and Iran fueled by Facebook, Twitter and YouTube reflected "the power of connection technologies as an accelerant of political, social and economic change."
The US government, Posner said, has budgeted $50 million in the last two years to develop new technologies to help activists protect themselves from arrest and prosecution by authoritarian governments.
And it has organized training sessions for 5,000 activists in different parts of the world.
A session held in the Middle East about six weeks ago gathered activists from Tunisia, Egypt, Syria and Lebanon who returned to their countries with the aim of training their colleagues there.
"They went back and there's a ripple effect," Posner said.
State Department officials said one of the new technologies under development is the "panic button," which allows activists to erase contact lists on their cell phones if they are arrested.
"If you can get the panic button that wipes that (list) clean before they get locked up, you're saving lives," said Posner.
The State Department said it has already funded efforts by private firms, mainly from the United States, to develop a dozen different technologies to circumvent government censorship firewalls.
"One of them has been very successful in Iran. It's being used extensively and we have the download numbers," a State Department official said on condition of anonymity.
"It's going viral and now that technology is spreading all over the Middle East," said the official, who declined to name the technology in order not to endanger the people who are using it.

Globalists Coming Full Circle: Obama executes final leg of Neo-Conservative imperialism
Long before the verified lies of Qaddafi's "door-to-door" genocide and even before the media cleverly tagged the engineered destabilization of the Middle East the "Arab Spring," Libya was already marked for destabilization and regime change. For nearly thirty years the US and UK have funded groups both inside Libya and beyond its borders in various attempts to remove Qaddafi from power. The current administration's feigned ignorance over the nature of the rebels in Libya is nothing short of absolute deception. The CIA and MI6 are on record for decades following, and in many cases supporting, these very groups.
Below is a partial time line covering Western efforts to implement regime change in Libya.
1980s: US-CIA backed National Front for the Salvation of Libya (NFSL) made multiple attempts to assassinate Qaddafi and initiate armed rebellion throughout Libya.
1990s: Noman Benotman and the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG) wage a campaign of terror against Qaddafi with Osama Bin Laden's assistance.
2003: Upon Qaddafi's abandonment of WMD programs, Libya's collaboration with MI6 & the CIA to identify and expose the LIFG networks begins, giving Western intelligence a windfall of information regarding the group.
2005: NFSL's Ibrahim Sahad founds the National Conference of Libyan Opposition (NCLO) in London England.
2011: Early February, the London based NCLO calls for a Libyan "Day of Rage," beginning the "February 17th revolution."
2011: Late February, NFSL/NCLO's Ibrahim Sahad is leading opposition rhetoric, literally in front of the White House in Washington D.C. Calls for no-fly zone in reaction to unsubstantiated accusations Qaddafi is strafing "unarmed protesters" with warplanes.
2011: Late February, Senators Lieberman and McCain and UK PM David Cameron call for providing air cover for Libyan rebels as well as providing them additional arms.
2011: Early March; it is revealed UK SAS special forces are already operating inside Libya
2011: Mid-March; UN adopts no-fly zone over Libya, including air strikes. Immediately, the mission is changed from "protecting civilians" to "ousting Qaddafi." Egypt violates the arms embargo of UN r.1973 with Washington's full knowledge by supplying Libyan rebels with weapons, while Al Qaeda's ties to the rebels are admitted by everyone including the rebels themselves.
Israel wants Qaddafi to remain in power, and US tries to figure out way to sell that to the citizens.
By last week it had led one of America's most senior officers, General Carter Ham, head of US Africa command, to warn publicly for the first time of what Washington, London and Paris regard as the nightmare scenario. "I do see a situation where that could be the case," he said. "I could see accomplishing the military mission which has been assigned to me, and the current leader would remain the current leader."
Webmaster's Commentary:
Webmaster note: Back on March 8th, when it became known that Israel had supplied Qaddafi with 50,000 mercenaries with the blessings of Benjamin Netanyahu, I made the following prediction.
"Obama threatens, he talks, he considers, he ponders, he consults, he declares, he discusses, but in the end he will do nothing. Israeli media is today confirming the story that Israel has sent hired mercenaries to Libya to support Qaddafi, and neither the United States nor Great Britain will ever stand up to Israel. They will stay back out of Libya while Israel tries to bring an end to the global revolt against the global bankers, while Obama preens in front of the cameras trying to pretend that the United States is still a nation that believes in democracy and the will of the people. But again, he will not actually do anything at all to challenge Israel's goal of keeping Qaddafi in power."
Now then, have you noticed how the US claims to be attacking Qaddafi, yet persists in actually killing the rebels and bombing civilian infrastructure?
NATO: No Military Solution in Libya
The NATO war in Libya is continuing apace with no end in sight. Despite this, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen reiterated today that there “is no military solution” in the nation.
Rasmussen insisted that a “political solution” was needed instead, which is noteworthy primarily because NATO appears to be making absolutely no effort toward such a solution, but is rather content to keep dropping bombs.
Webmaster's Commentary:
Forgive me, NATO Secretary General Rasmussen, but I'm a bit fuzzy on the following: if there is "no military solution" to the conflict in Libya, WHY THEN, DID THE US AND NATO ATTACK LIBYA, BOMBS BLAZING?!?
Where were you getting your intelligence information and tactical strategy; Miss Cleo and her Psychic Friends?!? Or Tel Aviv?
That the US government, with all of its financial woes, decided to mount a military operation costing the taxpayers one million dollars per day, makes one thing certain, however: the leadership of this country has gone absolutely barking mad!

Libyan rebels near Ajdabiya 'killed in Nato air strike'
Rebels in eastern Libya say their forces have been mistakenly hit in a Nato air raid.
Doctors in Ajdabiya told the BBC at least 13 rebel fighters had been killed by the strike on a rebel tank position.
It is the third such incident in recent days involving international forces deployed to protect Libyan civilians.
Webmaster's Commentary:
Are you sure you know which side the US Government is really on?
Remember, Israel wants Qaddafi kept in power. And public relations spin to the contrary, Israel always gets what it wants from the US Government.

WAY TO GO, NATO: KILLING THE VERY PEOPLE YOU ARE ALLEGEDLY SUPPOSED TO BE PROTECTING!!!!
And by the way, Supreme NATO Commander Stavridis, if the US and NATO are supposed to be "protecting" the Libyan people, why are you using depleted uranium weapons here?!?!?
http://thoughtbites.wordpress.com/2011/04/02/nato-using-depleted-uranium-bombs-again-libya/
In your "love" for the patriotic Libyan people, are you hoping for the same outcome from the use of these weapons as happened in Fallujah, Iraq?!?
http://nwoobserver.wordpress.com/2009/12/09/toxic-munitions-cause-of-baby-deaths-and-deformities-in-fallujah/
OK, NATO and the US: just drop the flipping hypocrisy, because we know what you're up to.. Just announce to the world, "This is absolutely naked aggression against Libya for the oil, the water, and the gold; the Libyan people are completely expendable. Just get over it, already!"
Because thinking people around the world understand quite well what is going on here; it's power and greed, wrapped in a bloody "humanitarian" banner.
And of course, let's not forget one country with a whole lot to lose in development deals when "regime change" comes in Libya: China.
http://www.asianews.it/news-en/Heavy-losses-for-Chinese-companies-operating-in-Libya-20887.html
"The riot in Libya has engulfed the many activities of Chinese firms striving to create billion-dollar businesses in the exploitation of oil fields and infrastructure projects. The Chinese Minister of Commerce announced on its website that on the 24 February 27 Chinese construction sites and plants were "attacked and devastated": the army and rebel groups have attacked buildings, destroyed vehicles and equipment, stolen money and everything else that they could."
NATO: Libya Rebel Deaths Don't Require Apology
NATO holds its fire as Moammar Gadhafi's forces advance 100 miles into rebel territory. It then blasts a rebel tank, saying it didn't know the rebels had any – even though footage of rebels with tanks had been on YouTube for weeks.
Webmaster's Commentary:
At the moment, the military division of NATO looks like the Keystone Cops...with bombs; a singularly unfunny image.
Whoever planned and signed off on this military misadventure should have their collective heads examined.
If the goal was to get Gaddafi to stand down, and "
re-write" the many development deals Libya had with countries like China, this, to date, has been charlie foxtrot of unimaginable proportions.
For Western countries, it is always more palatable to wrap naked military aggression in a pretty little flag of "humanitarian intervention".
But in light of the fact that Gaddafi remains well entrenched, and that NATO is shooting at the rebels, the question has to be asked, at the US price tag of 4 million dollars per day: what the blip is the real agenda here?
Was there... a plan?!?!? Were there any kind of specific outcomes which were expected to happen as a result of this military engagement?
Because from where I sit, those issues are about as clear as mud right now.
General: US ‘May Consider’ Ground Troops in Libya
General Carter Ham, the commander for US AFRICOM, told Congress today that the Obama Administration would consider sending ground troops into Libya to “aid the rebels,” though he insisted such a move was “not ideal.”
It is already confirmed that the US has had CIA ground forces inside Libya for “several weeks,” and the US has also deployed troops in the nation for “rescue” missions. The question then is not so much if ground troops will be sent to Libya, but to what extent they are already there, and how much this presence will be escalated in the days and weeks to come.
Webmaster's Commentary:
How NATO and the US embarked on such an ill-conceived, illogical, and perhaps, at some level, insane military action, with no clear outcome agreed upon (except to get Gaddafi out)absolutely boggles the mind.
So now, we have the beginnings of a massive quagmire, with no real military or negotiated settlement anywhere in sight, even though Turkey's prime minister, Edrogan (ever the consummate diplomat) is doing his level best to arrange for an immediate cease-fire.
So while the US infrastructure is crumbling, more and more people finding that their jobs have been offshored, and homeless Veterans sleep in our streets, how does the morally and fiscally bankrupt US government decide to spend taxpayer dollars?!? Why, on a war against Libya, of course, which so far has cost us about 650 million dollars!!!
http://politics.blogs.foxnews.com/2011/04/07/libya-us-cost-approaches-650-million#
This is yet one more symptom of a callous, and complete, disconnect by the US government from the real needs and concerns of We the People.
US Senate discusses sending troops to Libya
Pressed by McCain on whether the situation was either a stalemate or an “emerging stalemate,” Ham said, “Senator, I would agree with that at present on the ground.” A stalemate appeared “more likely” today than it did at the outset of the air campaign on March 19, he said.
McCain wants the US to drop the pretence that the direct aim of the air war is not regime-change. In his testimony, Ham said that the ousting of Gaddafi did not fall within the remit of the UN-mandated mission to protect civilians under Security Council Resolution 1973. The US wanted to rely on diplomatic and other means to force him to step down, he insisted.
Webmaster's Commentary:
With NATO's military bumbling, crumbling, and looking very much as though the right hand absolutely doesn't know what the left hand is doing here, one has to wonder just where this "international ground force" is supposed to come from.
The US is already militarily overextended in its current commitments in Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere around the globe. And if Obama does sign off on US ground troops to Libya, he will have absolutely broken his promise to the American people that there will be no US ground troops in Libya.
Of course, this man, during his tenure so far as President, has broken so many promises, he probably figures one more broken promise won't count.

‘US Orders Media Silence Over Bahrain’
http://www.presstv.ir/detail/172567.html
President of Bahrain’s Center for Human Rights Nabeel Rajab says the US media have been ordered not to cover news on the government’s brutal crackdown on Bahraini people.
Reports from the Center’s colleagues in the United States say “In the US some news agencies and TV stations were asked not to report on Bahrain and not to embarrass [President Barack Obama’s administration,” Rajab told Press TV.
He went on to say that the US and the Western governments have chosen to keep silent over ongoing atrocities in Bahrain due to their support for the country’s authoritarian regime.
