Tour des nouvelles internationales

Murdoch vows to charge for all online content

However, they resulted in a $3.4bn net loss for the full year, down from net income of $5.4bn a year earlier, reflecting $8.9bn in impairment charges.

The sweeping decision by the owner of titles including The News of the World and The Australian to abandon the practice of giving away news in exchange for attracting a large audience for advertisers could embolden other publishers warily examining paid content models.

"We intend to charge for all our news websites," Mr Murdoch said.

"If we're successful, we'll be followed by all media," he added, predicting "significant revenues" from charging for differentiated news online.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Rupe, ol' boy; the reason you are losing audience and ad revenue has nothing to do with your business model and everything to do with the bias, slant, and deception regularly peddled by your rags as "News."

It doesn't matter if you change how you sell your lies; people still will not buy them.

People want the truth, and they will go where they need to to get it.

No sign of recovery as 45,000 Cdn jobs disappear

Module body

TORONTO - No real sign of recovery was apparent in dismal job numbers released Friday but, while they'll certainly leave a bitter taste for some who read economic tea leaves, there was the small consolation that the statistics could have been worse.

Bucking predictions that the recession may have officially ended in July, Statistics Canada reported that Canada's labour market shed another 45,000 jobs as more people struggled to find work. It was a terrible month for the tourism sector and youth employment fell sharply from one of the worst summer job markets in decades.

The unemployment rate stayed at 8.6 per cent as discouraged workers appeared to leave the labour market and were not counted in the monthly tally from Statistics Canada.

The news held little surprise for Finance Minister Jim Flaherty, who has sounded a more pessimistic note than many - including Bank of Canada governor Mark Carney - who have claimed to see signs of an economy on the mend.

Job losses slow to 247,000; jobless rate dips

Employers throttled back on layoffs in July, cutting just 247,000 jobs, the fewest in a year, and the unemployment rate dipped to 9.4 percent, its first decline in 15 months.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I know everyone is screaming that this is good news, but to put this in context, this is roughly the equivalent of the First Officer reporting to the Captain of the Titanic that they are not sinking quite as fast as initially thought.

Surprise shrinkage in service sector

The service sector, which makes up nearly 90 percent of the U.S. economy, unexpectedly contracted at a faster rate in July than in June, indicating that economic activity continued to decline last month despite a raft of revised forecasts that now project a stronger recovery will begin during the third quarter.

The Expiring Economy by Paul Craig Roberts

Tent cities springing up all over America are filling with the homeless unemployed from the worst economy since the 1930s. While Americans live in tents, the Obama government has embarked on a $1 billion crash program to build a mega-embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan, to rival the one the Bush government build in Baghdad, Iraq.

Hard times have now afflicted Americans for so long that even the extension of unemployment benefits from 6 months to 18 months for 24 high unemployment states, and to 46 - 72 weeks in other states, is beginning to run out. By Christmas 1.5 million Americans will have exhausted unemployment benefits while unemployment rolls continue to rise.

Amidst this worsening economic crisis, the House of Representatives just passed a $636 billion “defense” bill.

Russians move 2 SS-21 Tactical Nuke Ballistic Missile Launchers into South Ossetia

Col. Sam Gardiner notes, in an interview with Amy Goodman on Democracy Now, Russia has deployed tactical nuclear weapons to South Ossetia. The SS-21 Missile launchers are relatively weak compared to bombs that have already been used against Georgia by the Russian air force. However, this move does indicate Russia is potentially upping the game from a conventional weapons war to a tactical nuclear war.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Russia is drawing a line on the map. Hopefully the US Government will have the wisdom to understand the message.

Russian Subs Patrolling Off East Coast of U.S.

A pair of nuclear-powered Russian attack submarines has been patrolling off the eastern seaboard of the United States in recent days, a rare mission that has raised concerns inside the Pentagon and intelligence agencies about a more assertive stance by the Russian military.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The US and NATO have been playing some very dangerous games in Russia's back yard recently; Russia is apparently just giving the US a little taste of its own geopolitical medicine.

Kremlin bill on using army abroad

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has introduced a bill to parliament that would allow the country's armed forces to intervene beyond Russia's borders.

The bill would allow Russian troops to be used abroad "to rebuff or prevent an aggression against another state" or "protect Russian citizens abroad".

Mr Medvedev said the bill was linked to last year's war with Georgia over South Ossetia, Russia's Interfax reports.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The implications of this legislation are far more ominous than just being Russia's response to last year's kerfuffle with Georgia over South Ossetia: it is a very clear warning to the US regarding any potential military action against Iran.

US judge declines to intervene in UAE trial

An American who says he was tortured into confessing to terrorism charges in the United Arab Emirates lost his effort on Tuesday to get a U.S. judge involved in his trial.

U.S. District Judge James Robertson said he doesn't have the authority to interfere in the foreign criminal prosecution of Naji Hamdan, a 43-year-old American citizen of Lebanese origin. The Obama administration said it agreed with the ruling.

The American Civil Liberties Union accused the United States of ordering Hamdan's arrest, detention and prosecution because there isn't evidence to convict him under U.S. laws.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So, Obama AGREES with torturing people into confessions and then using those confessions to keep them in jail.

U.S. Citizen Severely Tortured While Detained in the United Arab Emirates at the Behest of the United States

The torture was so severe that he often passed out from the pain, Hamdan told his brother. The agents also threatened to punish Hamdan's wife and family if he did not confess to their allegations.

Ex-employees claim Blackwater pimped out young Iraqi girls

Perhaps the most shocking of those charges — quoted by MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann on Thursday from the employees’ sworn declarations — is that Blackwater was guilty of using child prostitutes at its compound in Baghdad’s fortified Green Zone and that owner Erik Prince knew of this activity and did nothing to stop it.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Don' it makeya proudernshit to be American to know your tax dollars paid for all this!

But remember, the Iraqi people only hate us for our freedoms!

Blackwater boss and guards accused of murder and 'killing Iraqis for fun'

Founder of security firm saw himself as a Christian Crusader whose task was to eliminate Muslims, former employees allege.

Obama Continues To Pay BLACKWATER Millions To Be In Iraq

The Nation’s Jeremy Scahill and Keith Olbermann discuss the explosive news Scahill broke on Tuesday: Blackwater’s founder, Erik Prince, has been accused, in sworn depositions from two former employees, of murder. Scahill notes that Blackwater being involved in scandal is “no great surprise,” but the explosive details in the report confirm Prince’s view of the war in Iraq as a religious crusade. More importantly, Scahill says, the Justice Department is in possession of this information, and according to the attorneys in the civil case from which these depositions came, Prince could be eligible for murder charges.

Depleted Uranium Ammunition in Afghan War: New Evidence

A classified German Army manual has thrown doubt over US and UK assurances that no depleted uranium munitions have been used in Afghanistan.

Depleted Uranium Ammunition in Afghan War: New Evidence

Campaigners have long suspected that the US military has not been entirely candid over the issue and papers have emerged showing that DU munitions were transported to Afghanistan. The use of A10 Warthog aircraft - one of the main users of DU ammunition - remains widespread to this day, although the number of armoured targets is now much diminished. Estimates by Janes Defence in 2003 suggested that the Taliban had at least 100 main battle tanks and 250 armoured fighting vehicles at the beginning of the conflict. It would be unusual if the US Army had chosen not to engage these targets with DU munitions from the air.

Webmaster's Commentary:

If true, both the Afghans and US troops exposed to DU (and their families) are going to be dealing with the horrific effects of this poison for generations.

White House Warns Rush: Nazi Talk Puts You On "Thin Ice"

The White House struck back hard on Friday against conservative pundits and town hall protesters who have compared the President to Hitler and his policies to Nazism, saying that the critics are "on thin ice" and should "take that temperature down a bit."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Let's see.

Nazis had an ethnic minority to use as a scapegoat? Jews.
US has an ethnic minority to use as a scapegoat? Muslims!

Nazis had concentration camps.
US has concentration camps!

Nazis used torture.
US uses torture.

Nazis used a staged false-flag attack on two towers at Gleiwitz to kick off a war of conquest in Poland.

US used a staged false-flag attack on two towers at New York to kick off a war of conquest in Afghanistan.

Nazis had security checkpoints.
US has security checkpoints.

Nazis used citizen informants.
US uses citizen informants.

Nazis stared WW2.
US may start WW3!

Hmmmm, I can see where Limbaugh might get the wrong idea here.

Revealed: Big Brother Britain has more CCTV cameras than China

Britain has one and a half times as many surveillance cameras as communist China, despite having a fraction of its population, shocking figures revealed yesterday.

There are 4.2million closed circuit TV cameras here, one per every 14 people.

But in police state China, which has a population of 1.3billion, there are just 2.75million cameras, the equivalent of one for every 472,000 of its citizens.

Vaccine trials off to fast start for pandemic flu

Early Monday, Sarakas rolled up his sleeves for an injection in each arm, becoming one of dozens of adults enrolling in an unprecedented flurry of fast-track flu vaccine trials that will grow to include 11,131 adults and 5,740 children, with more trials planned.

Flu vaccines historically have few side effects beyond redness and soreness at the infection site. Studies of several thousand volunteers aren't big enough to detect more subtle side effects such as Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare nerve ailment that crops up in one of every million flu vaccine recipients. Federal health agencies have ramped up surveillance efforts to detect any severe side effects that might occur.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Well, what a cozy little, "do as you're told, little mushrooms, if vaccination becomes mandatory piece" of propaganda!

As reported in

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090713111048AANLljd

"In 1976 there was a swiner flu pandemic in the US and there was a vaccine offered. of those who decided to take it, one in ten died, and young people who took it were paralysed.

It could be contaminated. In the UK the company that is supplying a large proportion of the vaccines contaminated flu vaccines with live bird flu virus."

There is no way that the testing can fully vet the effectiveness - and side effects - of this vaccine before its deployment in the fall.

Also, as reported in:

http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2009/08/11/Swine-Fl...

"Adjuvants are added to vaccines to make them more “effective” and to reduce the amount of vaccine required per dose. They do this by causing your immune system to react in a powerful, unnatural and potentially dangerous way to the presence of the organism you’re being vaccinated against.

Squalene is proving to be among the worst of the worst in terms of immune adjuvants.

We know at least two of the swine flu vaccines under development by drug companies will contain the oil-based adjuvant squalene. Novartis and GlaxoSmithKline are producing those vaccines, and it’s probably just the tip of the iceberg because:

In a July 13 WHO swine flu pandemic briefing note in which they list their latest recommendations on vaccines, they state:

“In view of the anticipated limited vaccine availability at global level and the potential need to protect against "drifted" strains of virus, SAGE recommended that promoting production and use of vaccines such as those that are formulated with oil-in-water adjuvants and live attenuated influenza vaccines was important.”[7]

Translation: WHO is now specifically recommending the production and use of vaccines containing oil-based adjuvants.

Also on July 13, HHS Secretary Sebelius committed another $884 million -- in addition to the $1 billion committed in May -- to purchase two key ingredients of the H1N1 vaccines under development. The key ingredients are:

1. The antigen (the active ingredient or organism)
2. The adjuvant

Novartis, whose vaccine contains the squalene adjuvant MF59, will receive $690 million of the $884 million."

http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/search/bigard/video/x6nxbd_jeanmarie-bigard-et-le-11septembre_news

http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/search/bigard+%C3%A0+canal/video/x754q0_jeanmarie-bigard-sur-canal-11-septe_news

http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/search/bigard/video/x9owbu_bigard-je-ne-nie-pas-le-11-septembr_fun

Homeland Secretary Napolitano predicts severe flu epidemic for fall

U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano asserted Tuesday that pandemic flu is likely to flare up soon after schools open in the fall, well before any vaccine is available.

Napolitano also acknowledged that there would not be enough pandemic flu vaccine for everyone, at least in the early stages of the flu season. "There will be prioritization of vaccinations," she told members of the USA TODAY editorial board.

The flu strain causing the pandemic, a new strain of H1N1 flu that is also known as swine flu, is especially dangerous because it is genetically different from virtually every other known flu virus. As a result, most people are defenseless against it — making vaccine the keystone of any effort to prevent illness and save lives.

Napolitano said the flu epidemic is likely to be severe, but not as severe as the 1918 pandemic, the world's worst. In 1918, flu killed at least 675,000 people in the USA and up to 50 million worldwide. She said it's more likely that the pandemic would mirror 1957, when flu killed about 70,000 people in the USA and more than one million people worldwide, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Obama team mulls new quarantine regulations

The Obama administration is quietly dusting off an effort to impose new federal quarantine regulations, which were vigorously resisted by civil liberties organizations and the airline industry when the rules were first proposed by the Bush administration nearly four years ago.

White House officials aren’t saying what their rules might ultimately require. But the previous administration proposed giving the federal government the authority to order a “provisional quarantine” of three business days — or up to six calendar days — for those suspected of having swine flu or other illnesses listed in a presidential executive order.

Swine Flu's Worst Case Scenario: Paranoia or Preparedness?

During the bird flu scare of 2005, the Bush administration added novel forms of influenza — including the swine flu — to the official list of "quarantinable communicable diseases," clearing the way for the forced detention of people who exhibit symptoms of the disease.

Now a proposal awaiting Defense Secretary Robert Gates' approval would allow the military to set up regional teams to assist civilian authorities in dealing with the impact of the swine flu pandemic. And some observers see this level of government preparedness as little more than a pretext for tyranny.

H1N1 cases "decrease significantly" in England

In its weekly briefing update on the pandemic the agency said the estimated number of new cases had fallen to 30,000 from 110,000 in the week ending July 26.

"But you're all doomed this winter unless you have a flu jab.

Swine flu cases down

Interesting to note this drop in swine flu came about without a major immunization plan in place, it just dropped seasonally

"Dammit, dammit, dammit, dammit, DAMMIT!!! First I lose a small fortune on Al Gore's global warming futures and now I'm gonna be stuck with all this worthless vaccine!!!!!"

W.H.O. Says It Plans to Stop Tracking Swine Flu Cases

CDC Refuses Answer Their Own FAQ As To Whether H1N1 Vaccinations Will Be Mandatory

"If the vaccine is recommended for use, those who choose vaccination for themselves or their children will be screened for contraindications to vaccination (such as an allergy to eggs) and will receive information sheets describing the vaccines's risks and benefits, possible adverse events associated with vaccination, and how to report those events."

Webmaster's Commentary:

As reported in:

http://birdflu666.wordpress.com/2009/07/28/swine-flu-vaccine-has-adjuvants-that-impair-fertility/

"The “swine flu” vaccine contains ingredients that impair fertility.

Daniel Solis from the Czech Republic has researched the side-effects of the adjuvant, squalene, and discovered it is known to destroy fertility as well as causing other forms of damage.

"According to Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, your children should be the first target for mass swine flu vaccinations when school starts this fall.[i]"

The dots are more than connected here, for any thinking American.

Swine Flu Scare: It’s All about The Adjuvant!

We currently have a stockpile of 22.5 million doses of the H5N1 antigen for the feared Avian flu pandemic that never materialized. The cost to maintain this stockpile for just two circulating strains of H5N1 is about $2.2 billion annually. Influenza vaccine typically expires after two years; 15 million doses have expired or will expire soon.

A Swine Flu Windfall for GlaxoSmithKline?

British pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) is set to reap billions as fear of the swine flu pandemic grows. The world's second-largest drug company has secured orders from 16 countries for 195 million doses of the vaccine it is developing against the H1N1 virus, which has killed more than 740 people worldwide.

At Least 37 Killed in String of anti-Shi’ite Bombings in Iraq

At least 37 civilians were killed today in a series of bombings across Iraq, which has targeted the country’s Shi’ite majority and did enormous damage to a Mosul-area mosque full of worshippers. The toll is expected to rise as bodies are recovered from the rubble, and over 100 are estimated to be wounded.

Afghanistan:

'Did Western troops come here to kill my children?' Afghan villagers' despair as three boys are killed in airstrike

Abdur Rahim, the father of the boys and uncle of the slain man, claimed he heard a pair of helicopters circling over his compound at 1:30 a.m. before they fired two missiles that hit his home. His brother and another son were wounded, he said.

'What was the fault of my innocent children? They were not Taliban,' Rahim said. "Did they come here to build our country or kill our innocent children?

Webmaster's Commentary:

The Afghan people do not hate us "because we are free"; they hate us because we are systematically killing their kids, moms, aunts, and uncles, and friends with indiscriminate airstrikes.

Barracks and Burger King: U.S. Builds a Supersized Base in Afghanistan

Palestine / Gaza:

Crippled academia unable to recover in Gaza

hmad Abu Aisha, an undergraduate math student at al-Aqsa University expressed his outrage at the situation, stating that "The Israeli army deliberately attempted to damage our academic life. More than one university was either partially or largely damaged."

In addition to the universities, an American school in northern Gaza was totally destroyed by Israel. Moreover, several schools run by the UN agency for Palestine refugees (UNRWA) across Gaza were damaged by Israeli shelling. As the new academic year approaches, the third under Israel's siege, Gaza's universities and schools remain in desperate need of reconstruction.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Destroy a people's education, and you destroy the future of those people; this is something apparently the Israeli government felt compelled to do to Gaza during this incursion.

Liban:

Tensions Rise on Israel’s North

The war of words between Israel and the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah has heated up in the last week, raising fears that another war between Lebanon and Israel is imminent.

On Monday Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned the Lebanese government that it would be held responsible for any attacks on Israeli targets even if the attacks were carried out independently by the guerrilla group.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Netanyahu has just tipped his hand as to precisely how the next Israeli"false flag" will be blamed on Hezbollah, and used as an excuse to invade Lebanon again.

Israel tells nationals: Leave Sinai immediately

The Counter-Terrorism Bureau in the Prime Minister's Office warned Israelis to exercise caution when traveling abroad during the Jewish holidays, due to the assessment that Hezbollah may try to attack Israeli citizens, and urged citizens in Sinai to leave immediately.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Setting up the next false-flag?

Israël:

Israelis to sue EU for providing aid to 'terrorists'

Laughably, European Israelis are demanding that the European Union stops 'funding terrorism' by giving aid to Gaza. This is the same mentality that sees the banning of book imports to Gaza and children's toys because they too can assist in the maintenance of the 'terrorist infrastructure'. But it's OK to bomb the population of Gaza back to the stone age and refuse to let any cement or steel in and provide the bare minimum of food to stop starvation getting out of control.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Unflipping believable. I would like to hope that this case gets laughed out of court.

Israel bombs Gaza tunnel in retaliatory strike

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the raid, in which there were no reported casualties, was in response to firing from Gaza and that Israel would respond to every shooting.

Israel admits white phosphorus use

The Israeli government report follows charges from the UN and human rights groups that Israeli forces committed war crimes and violated international law during the operation.

UN officials have also said that they have evidence that white phosphorus was used in an attack on the UN relief agency's main building in Gaza that left three people injured.

But the government defended its military campaign as a "necessary and proportionate" response to Hamas rocket fire at Israel.

Webmaster's Commentary:

".....Necessary and proportionate", my astrolabe!

They were using this stuff in an attack against the UN relief agency's main building in Gaza.

And soldiers who participated in "Breaking the Silence" have come forward to say that they were told to shoot everyone...women, kids, the elderly, the medically infirm, it didn't matter who they killed; just as long as it was a Palestinian.

Lieberman: Ghajar belongs to Israel

Foreign minister tours northern border, says any decision on split village will be made based on security and humanitarian concerns. Residents tell him Ghajar will be divided 'over our dead bodies'

Webmaster's Commentary:

".....Security and humanitarian concerns." ?!?!?

The bovine excrement meter just imploded on that statement, sinking into that Israeli black hole of lies, lies, and yet more lies.

This is yet another land grab and/or an attempt to provoke the Lebanese government into a military action to defend the village, giving Israel an excuse to invade.

And this time, Israel will go all the way to the Litani river if they do invade; they're desperate for the water.

Lebanon Ignores UN as Barak Issues Warning

Lebanese Foreign Minister Fawzi Salloukh said Thursday that Hizbullah's growing weapons supplies are “an internal matter”. Salloukh's statement was seen as a response to accusations that Lebanon has failed to implement a United Nations resolution that would prohibit Hizbullah from rearming.

Meanwhile, in Israel, Defense Minister Ehud Barak said Thursday that if Hizbullah attacks Israel again, Lebanon may pay the price. While Israel made efforts not to harm Lebanese infrastructure during the Second Lebanon War, in a future conflict such infrastructure may be targeted, he told Israel Radio.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Looks like Israel is about to run another false-flag operation, "justifying" another assault on Lebanon.

And this time, when they come, the IDF will go all the way to the Litani River; Israel is desperate for the water (and, as always, any territory which can be grabbed in the process of such an invasion).

Barak hints at another war with Lebanon

Israeli Defense Minister hints at Tel Aviv's intention to launch another offensive against Lebanon, saying the war would be more devastating than the 2006 war.

Webmaster's Commentary:

"The war will start just as soon as we figure out a way to blame Lebanon for it!"

Backed by their army, settlers bid for expansion in three locations

Israeli settlers launched a series of actions on Friday in a bid to take over more West Bank land from Palestinians.

Webmaster's Commentary:

President Obama, the Netanyahu government continues to spit in your face and tell you it's raining on the settlement issue.

When will you stop signing the checks for Israeli government?

Judge: Israeli law applies in disputed West Bank territory

Israeli authority applies to disputed territory near Latrun, Judge David Shoham of the Ramle Magistrate's Court said last week.

Webmaster's Commentary:

"So, we can legally take your lands under the rules that ..., we just now made up!"

Israeli Interior Minister: US Can’t Stop Settlement Expansion

Touring the sights of planned settlement expansions in the West Bank, Israeli Interior Minister Eli Yishai insisted that the US could not do anything to stop the new construction, and insisted that “there is no escape from our crucial security need to continue with this construction.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Minister Yishai is absolutely right; Obama has demonstrated that he is absolutely impotent on this issue, and will not do the one thing which would at least show a little spine. And that, of course, would be the absolute, immediate cessation of all US military and financial aid to Israel.

Every Middle Eastern head of state has got to be looking at Obama with intense disgust at this man who appears pathologically incapable of behaving like an honest broker for peace in the region, and who knuckles under to every Israeli demand.

Israeli military blocks road and access to health, water services for approximately 700 Palestinians in the South Hebron Hills

The earth mounds represent a serious problem to health needs of the local Palestinian population, because now the access to health services from the
city of Yatta is not accessible by ambulance or car. Now, in the dry season, it is impossible for vehicles to deliver food and water to villages in the area, and for villagers to take products to the market to sell.

Israeli Massacres: Details and Numbers

Although the Image that Israel distributes about herself is that of an oppressed nation, it is with heavy hearts that we present these crimes that stand for themselves for the brutality of the Israeli Army and the heartlessness of its soldiers who seem to have a thirst for blood.

UN concerned over potential further evictions in East Jerusalem

In the wake of the evictions of dozens of Palestinian refugees in East Jerusalem earlier this week, the United Nations today voiced concern that more families could be forced out of their homes by Israel, causing further humanitarian suffering. Two families, comprising 53 people registered with the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), were forced out by Israeli security forces last weekend from the Arab neighbourhood of Sheikh Jarrah, with Israeli settlers moving into their homes.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The UN has shown itself completely, utterly impotent in stopping Israel from continuing with these evictions.

In defying countless UN resolutions, Israel has shown that it has an absolutely venal contempt for this organization, and what it is supposed to stand for.

Breaking the Israeli water siege

International human rights activists together with Israelis and Palestinians escorted a convoy of water tankers, breaking the Israeli water siege of the village Qarawat Bani Zaid and delivering water to residents.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The people involved with this convoy are very, very brave to be doing what they are doing, understand what the IDF is capable of under these kinds of circumstances, and deserve the world's respect and support.

Deaths from avoidable medical error more than double in past decade, investigation shows

Preventable medical mistakes and infections are responsible for about 200,000 deaths in the U.S. each year, according to an investigation by the Hearst media corporation. The report comes 10 years after the Institute of Medicine's "To Err Is Human" analysis, which found that 44,000 to 98,000 people were dying annually due to these errors and called for the medical community and government to cut that number in half by 2004.

The precise number of these deaths is still unknown because many states lack a standard or mandatory reporting system for injuries due to medical mistakes. The investigative team gathered disparate medical records, legal documents, personnel files and reports and analyzed databases to arrive at its estimate.

Why High-Fructose Corn Syrup Causes Insulin Resistance

A new study in mice sheds light on at least part of the reason for the insulin resistance that can come from diets high in high-fructose corn syrup, a sweetener found in most sodas and many other processed foods.

Fructose is much more readily metabolized to fat in the liver than glucose, and in the process can lead to nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. NAFLD in turn leads to hepatic insulin resistance and type II diabetes.

Just two cans of fizzy drink a day can increase risk of liver damage by 80 per cent

Drinking just two glasses of fruit juice or fizzy drink each day may cause long-term liver damage resulting in the need for a transplant, according to new research published today.

Liver damage is usually associated with alcohol abuse but a new study has found that drinks with a high sugar content can cause a condition called fatty liver disease, making them even more dangerous than alcohol abuse.

Study finds unusual suspect in lung cancer risk

Researchers at the University of Montreal were stunned to find that that women who had undergone hysterectomies, or had otherwise had menopause medically induced were almost twice as likely to develop lung cancer as women who had gone through "the changes" naturally.

Ironically, the study began as a quest to find a link between lung cancer and hormones in women. Can you imagine a worse situation? You have a hysterectomy or get your ovaries removed for whatever reason, believing that at the very least you're reducing your risk of the lethal ovarian cancer… only to find out that you're nearly doubling your chances of developing an equally deadly disease.

Hormones contain growth agents, and they're just as likely to cause cancer cells to grow as they are to help offset the effects of menopause - which is why there's so much evidence out there which says that women should avoid hormone therapies.

The researchers on this study theorize that the lung cancer danger is rooted in the fact that surgically or medically induced menopause results in a woman's estrogen level dropping to radically low levels almost instantly. In the case of naturally occurring menopause, the decline in estrogen is far less extreme, giving the body time to adjust.

Popular Insect Repellent Deet Is Neurotoxic

The active ingredient in many insect repellents, deet, has been found to be toxic to the central nervous system. Researchers say that more investigations are urgently needed to confirm or dismiss any potential neurotoxicity to humans, especially when deet-based repellents are used in combination with other neurotoxic insecticides.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I recall a chemistry professor in college who claimed that Deet was just a diluted form of WW2 nerve gas.

Cancer risk in mobile phones: Official
October 16, 2008, The Sun
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article1814931.ece

Mobile phones DO increase the risk of brain cancer, scientists claimed yesterday. The chances of developing a malignant tumour are "significantly increased" for people who use a mobile for ten years. The shock finding is the result of the biggest ever study by the International Agency for Research on Cancer, part of the World Health Organisation. Scientists found a type of brain tumour called glioma is more likely in long-term mobile users. French experts analysed data from 13 countries, including Britain. They cross-referenced various types of tumours with mobile use. Researchers admit the cause is unknown, but it is thought radiation from handsets could be the trigger. Study chief Professor Elisabeth Cardis said: "To underestimate the risk would be a complete disaster." Last night a British expert insisted mobiles are not dangerous. Professor Patricia McKinney of the University of Leeds said: "Reasonable use is unlikely to increase the risk of tumours."

MSG is being sprayed right on fruits, nuts, seeds, grains, and vegetables as they grow -- even those used in baby food

In the 1970s, reluctant food processors "voluntarily" took processed free glutamic acid (MSG) out of baby food. Today it's back, in fertilizers called "Omega Protein Refined/Hydrolyzed Fish Emulsion" and "Steam Hydrolyzed Feather Meal," both of which contain hydrolyzed proteins; and in a product called AuxiGro WP Plant Metabolic Primer (AuxiGro) produced by Emerald BioAgriculture (formerly Auxein Corporation), which contains both hydrolyzed protein(s) and "monosodium glutamate." AuxiGro is being sprayed on some of the vegetables we and our children will eat, into the air we and our children must breath, and onto the ground from which it can move into drinking water. Head lettuce, leaf lettuce, tomatoes, potatoes, and peanuts were among the first crops targeted.

High-fructose diets impair memory

Adopting a diet rich in fructose, a form of sugar commonly found in processed foods and beverages, may result in impaired spatial memory.

Previous studies had reported various health problems such as insulin insensitivity, type 2 diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease following the use fructose, the sweetener commonly found in table sugar, fruit juice concentrates and high fructose corn syrup.

According to a study conducted in Georgia State University, high fructose intake can also impair memory in consumers. It, however, does not influence an individual's ability to learn.

Unlike glucose, high levels of triglycerides are produced during the digestion process of fructose within the liver.

This fat can subsequently interfere with the insulin signaling mechanism of the brain, affecting not only the survival of brain cells but also their ability to change based on new experiences.

Scientists concluded that the high content of fructose can impair memory.

AP: Drugs found in drinking water

A vast array of pharmaceuticals — including antibiotics, anti-convulsants, mood stabilizers and sex hormones — have been found in the drinking water supplies of at least 41 million Americans, an Associated Press investigation shows.

Pharmaceuticals found in fish across U.S.

Fish caught near wastewater treatment plants serving five major U.S. cities had residues of pharmaceuticals in them, including medicines used to treat high cholesterol, allergies, high blood pressure, bipolar disorder and depression, researchers reported Wednesday.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Now I know why the sushi was so popular at the last party!

Health agency covered up lead harm

From 2001 to 2004, Washington, D.C., experienced what may have been the worst lead contamination of city water on record. Tens of thousands of homes had sky-high levels of lead at the tap, and in the worst cases, tap water contained enough lead to be classified as hazardous waste. Not that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the government oversight agency for public health, was worried.

A 2004 CDC report found that water contamination "might have contributed a small increase in blood lead levels." The study has been influential. School officials in New York and Seattle have used the CDC report as justification for not aggressively responding to high levels of lead in their water, and other cities have cited the report to dispel concerns about lead in tap water.

But the results of thousands of blood tests that measured lead contamination in children were missing from the report, potentially skewing the findings and undermining public health. Further, the CDC discovered in 2007 that many young children living in D.C. homes with lead pipes were poisoned by drinking water and suffered ill effects. Parents wondered whether the water could have caused speech and balance problems, difficulty with learning, and hyperactivity. Yet the health agency did not publicize the new findings or alert public health authorities in D.C. or other federal agencies that regulate lead, such as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency or Housing and Urban Development.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So, let me get this straight. The CDC covered up the fact that the drinking water in Washington DC has high levels of lead contamination, high enough that people are showing psychological effects from it?

No WONDER the nation is so screwed up!!!!!

Water police could ban power showers

Webmaster's Commentary:

Remember the other day when California was talking about banning dark paint on cars, and I said that given enough thought, there will always be another reason to justify some bureaucrat telling you how to live your life.

And before the cultists write in to me to talk about how precious fresh water is and all that, I wish to remind you how here in Hawaii we were for many years the land of faucet restrictors and a permanent water shortage, until the day the last sugar cane field closed. Then we found out that there had never really been a water shortage; it was just that the agricultural corporations wanted more of the water, so we the people got less, while being assured the shortage was for "the environment."

Privatising Water is Denying People a Human Right: UN

The President of the United Nations General Assembly has told delegates at the 5th World Water Forum (WWF) in Istanbul, Turkey, that, "those who are committed to the privatization of water, making it a commodity like oil, are denying people a human right as basic as the air we breathe."

In a speech delivered by his senior advisor on water Maude Barlow, UN president Miguel d'Escoto Brockmann said, "We must work quickly to guarantee that access to drinking water constitutes a fundamental right of all peoples..."

Rocket Fuel Chemical Found in Baby Formula

When a parent puts a bottle of baby formula to a child's lips, the parent might not know exactly what ingredients are in that thick, nutritionally packed mix. But rocket fuel? That's not an ingredient many expect to find.

The two brands with the highest levels -- more than double that of the other milk-based products -- command 87 percent of the market share for infant formula.

The report does not specify the brand names of any formula tested.

Webmaster's Commentary:

There is no safe level of perchlorate, and that's the problem.

And of course, for the CDC, in choosing not to name and shame the companies involved in this practice, corporate profits appear to trump your baby's health, every time.

And as reported at:

http://blog.syracuse.com/family/2008/11/melamine_found_in_topselling_u...

This isn't the first time there have been problems with infant formula. Remember the melamine contamination of infant formula, discovered by AP last year?

And in an article covering this, the following statement was made:
"The three firms -- Abbott Laboratories, Nestle and Mead Johnson -- manufacture more than 90 percent of all infant formula produced in the United States."

If you are an infant's mom or dad, and have been using these products, or have friends or families who are, you might want to consider stopping the use of these products, and see what organic alternatives you might want to start feeding your baby.

Will the cost be higher?? Absolutely. But your baby's good health and development have to be worth it.

Simple Ways to Detoxify Your Body and Reclaim Your Health and Vitality

(NaturalNews) Detox, short for detoxification, is the purification of the body by removing toxins. Our bodies naturally eliminate toxins through our skin, liver, kidney and lungs. However due to the massive amount of toxins in our air, water and food supply today our bodies are unable to "keep up" with the amount of toxins invading us daily. This leads to fatigue, weight gain and a whole host of health problems. Therefore it is necessary for us to take steps to detoxify our bodies in order to reclaim our health and vitality.

New Evidence: Exercise Helps Heart Disease, Increases Survival Better than Angioplasty

Saturday, July 11, 2009 by: S. L. Baker, features writer

(NaturalNews) At the European Association of Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation meeting recently held in Barcelona, Spain, new heart research was presented that shows one treatment in particular can provide remarkable help for patients with certain forms of serious heart disease. It's not a new drug or surgical procedure. Instead, it's a natural therapy -- plain old-fashioned regular exercise.

In fact, in several studies just presented at the meeting, exercise reduced the markers of heart disease in patients following coronary artery bypass surgery (CABG). What's more, it improved indications of disease in people with heart failure, a condition usually thought to be incurable and often just treated with symptom-relieving drugs. But the news that's perhaps most likely to make some interventional cardiologists' hearts skip a beat or two was the evidence presented that showed that exercise improved cardiac event-free survival in coronary patients better than angioplasty with stents.
