31% of Americans Have Abandoned News Outlets Due to Perceived Decline in Quality

News organizations have lost a significant share of their audience due to budget cuts that have impacted the quality and quantity of reporting.
A new poll from the Pew Research Center found that 31% of respondents said they had stopped using a particular news outlet because it was no longer providing the same kind of news and information as in the past.

Welcome to the first day of Spring! March could be the coldest for 50 years and winter is expected to stay for yet another week

Today is officially the first day of spring - but it will bring little respite to freezing Britain as snow continues to fall, closing schools and causing chaos on the roads.
The country is on track to suffer its coldest March in more than 50 years as conservationists warned that the prolonged winter weather was damaging wildlife.

BP accused of rewriting environmental record on Wikipedia

Oil giant British Petroleum is well-known for the Deepwater Oil Horizon disaster and its much-criticized handling of the cleanup's aftermath. But you might want to think twice before you read about the event, or the company's environmental record, on Wikipedia.
Angry Wikipedia editors estimate that BP has rewritten 44 percent of the page about itself, especially about its environmental performance.

Now Obama Targets Your FedEx, UPS Packages

The Obama administration is demanding the nation’s two biggest shipping companies police the contents of Americans’ sealed packages, and a FedEx spokesman is warning that the move “has the potential to threaten the privacy of all customers that send or receive packages.”
FedEx and UPS are in the Justice Department’s cross-hairs for not flagging shipments of illegally prescribed drugs the companies say they had no way of knowing were in their possession.
Criminal charges could be coming against the carriers, even though the government has not alleged any deliberate wrongdoing by the companies.

Why you should NEVER tell shops your postcode: US study reveals the sneaky way retailers track down shoppers and bombard them with junk mail

Providing a zip code to a cashier may result in piles of junk mail and continuous cold calls, a consumer watchdog is warning.
Privacy Rights Clearinghouse, a non-profit based in San Diego, California, states that retailers use the string of numbers to gather personal data, which is then sold on to other marketers.
Most shoppers believe the code is needed to complete credit card transactions, but Paul Stephens, a spokesman for the group, told NBC that it is irrelevant when making in-store purchases.

Venezuela Halts Communication With US Diplomat

Venezuela's government has halted lines of communication established by a top U.S. diplomat to protest what it says has been U.S. interference in the country's internal affairs ahead of an election set next month to replace the late President Hugo Chavez.
Foreign Minister Elias Jaua said in a news conference Wednesday that U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Roberta Jacobson had violated Venezuela's sovereignty despite reaching out to the South American country's government before Chavez's March 5 death.
He accused Jacobson of supporting opposition candidate Henrique Capriles, although he didn't provide any evidence.
"We want normal relations with the United States based on mutual respect," Jaua said.

Terrorist Classification Could Prompt Mali Drone War

The United States might be poised to ramp up its presence in Mali in the coming weeks following news Thursday that it has classified one of the militant groups fighting there as terrorists.
The State Department's decision to add Ansar al Dine to its list of terrorist organizations grants the U.S. the political and legal authority to pursue directly the al-Qaida affiliate, says J. Peter Pham, a senior advisor to U.S. Africa Command.
The move is an "important housekeeping detail" for the U.S., which is prohibited by law from intervening militarily in Mali after rebels successfully overthrew the democratically elected leader a year ago.
Let's face facts; as is the case with this alleged "war on terror", the war in Mali is about its gold resources; who develops them, and who can buy Mali's gold.
And forgive me, but the prospect of extrajudicial murders and maimings, many times of innocent non-combatants, is NOT something to be sanely described as "an important housekeeping issue"; let's call it by its rightful name - MURDER WITHOUT DUE PROCESS!!

US-led Libyan abuses worse than Gadhafi

Since the U.S.-led violent regime change in Libya, Hassan El Amin, chair of Libya's parliament human-right committee told a U.S. newspaper reporter than rights abuses are worse there than during Gadhafi's leadership.
“I have so many concerns about human rights violations in Libya, it is getting to a stage where it is even worse than during Gadhafi’s time,” El Amin told the Washington Times. “A lot of facts have become clear about human rights abuses [by the militias], the continuous attacks on the government, the kidnappings, and all of this is setting off a warning bell for the Libyan people.

Warning: NATO War Crimes Against Libyans Graphic Photos

After Libyans gathered outside the UN Headquarters in Cairo on Tuesday to denounce NATO and “rebel” war crimes on the anniversary of the beginning of the U.S.-led aerial bombardment campaign, an international rights group on Wednesday urged the American-supported Libyan government to halt “systematic destruction” of a town whose residents backed their leader Moammar Gadhafi.
Displaced residents once living in the town Tawergha now live in harsh conditions in refugee camps in Tripoli and Benghazi.
Human Rights Watch based its report of abuse on recent satellite images showing “arson and targeted demolitions” of Tawergha to prevent residents from going home, the New York-based group said.

Iraq War Anniversary: Birth Defects And Cancer Rates At Devastating High In Basra And Fallujah (VIDEO)

Ten years after the start of the U.S. invasion in Iraq, doctors in some of the Middle Eastern nation's cities are witnessing an abnormally high number of cases of cancer and birth defects. Scientists suspect the rise is tied to the use of depleted uranium and white phosphorus in military assaults.
On the war's ten-year anniversary, Democracy Now! spoke with Dahr Jamail, an Al Jazeera reporter who recently returned from Iraq. Jamail recounts meeting Dr. Samira Alani, a doctor in the city of Fallujah focusing on the issue of birth defects.
She said it's common now in Fallujah for newborns to come out with massive multiple systemic defects, immune problems, massive central nervous system problems, massive heart problems, skeletal disorders, babies being born with two heads, babies being born with half of their internal organs outside of their bodies, cyclops babies literally with one eye -- really, really, really horrific nightmarish types of birth defects.
Welcome to yet another horrific legacy of the US invasion and occupation of Iraq!
And this is not only happening to Iraqis: it is also happening to our military men and women who got exposed to these chemicals, where their children are born with tremendous physical defects.

Guantanamo Prisoners on Hunger Strike are Force Fed by Guards

Over the years the military dungeons at Guantanamo Bay have become largely forgotten by the general population back home in the US. Since the election of Barack Obama many of the people who protest wars and the inhumane acts of the military industrial complex are now silent as if nothing has ever happened.
Obama’s supporters have failed to even call him out for breaking a promise to close Guantanamo.  In fact, many of them actually believe that he did close it, simply taking a politicians word at face value without even doing the research.  This same fallacy has led many to believe that the war in Iraq is over, and that the US governments pillaging of the Middle East and Africa is winding down.
Hoping to raise awareness about the mistreatment and wrongful imprisonment at Guantanamo bay, some of the prisoners there are taking part in a hunger strike.
Reuters reported that:
“About 24 Guantanamo prisoners involved in a hunger strike that began six weeks ago are upset by the U.S. government’s failure to close the detention camp and hope to gain publicity for their plight.  The prison has 166 inmates. Nearly all have been held for 11 years without charge, and about half have been cleared for transfer or release. Many are Yemenis who the United States will not repatriate at this time because of instability in that country.
More than 50 lawyers representing the prisoners sent a letter to Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel last week urging him to help end the hunger strike, which they said began on February 6 to protest the confiscation of letters, photographs and legal mail, and the rough handling of Korans during searches of their cells.  They said the participants’ health had deteriorated alarmingly, and that some had lost more than 20 or 30 pounds (9 to 14 kilograms). Kelly said the prisoners who spoke to Guantanamo staff cited other reasons for the strike.”
What is even more disturbing is that guards will further torture the prisoners by force feeding them, a practice that was condemned by more that 250 doctors from the UK, the US, Ireland, Germany, Australia, Italy and the Netherlands.
Back in 2006 one prisoner, Fawzi al-Odah told BBC that people who were hunger striking were strapped to a chair and force-fed through a tube three times a day.
Through his lawyer, Mr Odah described his treatment during his hunger strike.
“First they took my comfort items away from me. You know, my blanket, my towel, my long pants, then my shoes. I was put in isolation for 10 days.  They came in and read out an order. It said if you refuse to eat, we will put you on the chair [for force feeding].”
He told how detainees were given “formulas” to force them to empty their bowels and were strapped to a metal chair three times a day, where a tube was inserted to administer food.
“One guy, a Saudi, told me that he had once been tortured in Saudi Arabia and that this metal chair treatment was worse than any torture he had ever endured or could imagine,” Mr Odah said.
In this particular hunger strike guards have already admitted to using this method, although it has been denied in previous years.  In the Reuters article cited earlier one of the guards interviewed admitted that hunger strikers “present themselves daily, calmly, in a totally cooperative way, to be fed through a tube”.
It is a pretty sick and twisted perception to think that these people are doing anything voluntarily or cooperatively, being held against their will in a cage.   These prisoners only “present themselves” because they know if they don’t they will be taken violently.  While it may be true that a small percentage of these people may actually be guilty of something, it is important to remember that there was no trial for any of these people, many of them were swept up in post 9/11 fear mongering and accused of things that they had no part in.
As of now over a dozen prisoners are still on hunger strike and being force fed by guards.

Video: Israeli soldiers round up children in Hebron

Israeli forces on Wednesday detained some 30 students who were on their way to school in the southern area of Hebron, locals said.
Locals told Ma'an that the students were transferred to Kiryat Arba police station, and that Israeli forces were detaining every student passing Tareq Bin Zeyad street.
OBAMA SPOKE MOVINGLY ABOUT ISRAEL'S CHILDREN NEEDING TO LIVE FREE OF TERROR, NOT ONE WORD ON PALESTINIAN CHILDREN LIVING UNDER MILITARY RULE.

Rockets hit southern Israel as Obama prepares to meet Palestinians, push peace talks

On the second day of a Mideast tour, U.S. President Barack Obama is set to emphasize the importance of reaching an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal, a message underscored when militants in Gaza launched rockets into southern Israel.
Anybody who thinks the Palestinians are stupid enough to launch rockets into Israel while Obama is actually there, I have some of Saddam's nuclear weapons to sell you!
Palestine needs the political support of the American people, something they will lose shooting rockets in the general direction of the President. And shooting rockets in the general direction of the President is not likely to improve his view of Palestine.
Hence, this is a classic Israeli false-flag attack, like the Lavon Affair and Israel's attack on USS Liberty.

Obama vows unwavering support for Israel

Renewing U.S. support for the difficult "work of generations," President Barack Obama assured Israel on Wednesday that his administration would pursue an elusive Mideast peace that would allow residents of the Jewish state to live in peace and free from the threat of terror.
"In this work, the state of Israel will have no greater friend than the United States," the president declared after meeting with Israeli President Shimon Peres during his first visit to Israel as president.

President Obama's Limo Breaks Down In Israel After Being Filled With Diesel By Mistake

President Obama is on his way to Israel for a state visit. His limo, the Beast, made the trip with him. Apparently it just broke down because it was filled with diesel instead of gas. Whoops.
As I understand it, there is only one "Beast." So whatever they are bringing in from Jordan is an older, less protected vehicle (the older Presidential limos are often deployed as diplomatic vehicles in troubled regions). But the upshot is that because of this mistake, Obama is less protected as he travels around Israel.
How often do you accidentally put diesel into your gasoline car?
For the SS monitoring this website, there are two possibilities to keep in mind.
1. Israel might assassinate Obama ( he would not be the first US President the Israelis participate in the murder of ) and blame it on Iran, to enrage America against Iran and get the war going. This would be a repeat of Israel's "Lavon affair" and the attack on the USS Liberty, both intended to trick the US into war with Egypt. If Israel were to assassinate Obama, then pro-Israel Biden gets the Oval Office. Obama in his second term and unable to run again is proving difficult for Netanyahu to manage. But Biden in his first term and able to run in 2016 will be far more tractable.
2. Israel may fake an attack on the President and come to the rescue, so that Obama will feel grateful to Israel and be more agreeable. Again, the attack would be blamed on Iran.

Commander Sees Israel's Apology to Turkey as "New US Game"

The Zionist regime's apology to Turkey is a new game by the United States, the Israeli regime and Turkey to further affect resistance (movement) in the region, the Islamic Awakening in particular, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces for Basij and Defense Culture Brigadier General Massoud Jazayeri said.
He pointed to Israel's savage raid on the Gaza aid convoy in 2010, and stated that the shock caused by the Zionists' attack on a Gaza-bound international aid flotilla created a special position for Turkey in regional equations.
The Zionist regime troops stormed a flotilla of ships on May 31, 2010 killing a number of human rights activists on board.
The ships were sailing under the Turkish flag. A number of foreign activists and officials were among passengers of the ships.
The American people are still waiting for an apology from Israel over the US citizen killed in that brutal attack in international waters.

Israeli professor working in US calls Palestinian student a "cockroach"

Students in the five-college Claremont system in southern California are organizing against an act of racial discrimination by an Israeli professor who called a Palestinian student a “cockroach.”
Since the incident became public, the student says he has faced violent threats written on his reserved seat in the campus library, and someone flattened one of the tires of his car with a sharpened key.
Do you want the United States to sink down to the level of Israel, where a favored class can bully and oppress everyone else with impunity?
Me neither.

Israel Denies Electricity to Palestinians: Orders Removal of EU-funded Solar Cells

Global Research, March 19, 2013
The Israeli occupation authority (IOA) ordered the removal of solar cell panels providing a Palestinian community east of Yatta town in Al-Khalil with electric power.
Local sources reported that the occupation civil administration handed on Friday notices to the residents of Umm Al-Kharouba area near Yatta stating that the solar panels they use to generate electricity will be confiscated.
The solar energy system in this area was funded by the European Union several years ago and is used to supply 15 Palestinian homes with power.

China, Russia to Stand Together on Missile Defense in AsPac

RIA Novosti
Russia and China will coordinate their reactions to US plans to boost its missile defense in the Asia-Pacific region, a senior Chinese diplomat said on Tuesday.
The remarks follow Washington’s recent announcement this it has shelved plans for a European-based missile shield in favor of boosting its defenses in Alaska, which would give it coverage from a potential North Korean attack.
The boosting of missile defense in Alaska targets Russia.
And a short memo to the US government; perhaps, instead of championing confrontation at this point in the US's history, you should be championing collaboration.
As you are well aware (or should be), a conventional war against China, combining its forces with those of Russia, may not go well for the US government, because it doesn't have the troop strength (not even if conscription was reintroduced), the money, or the manufacturing to insure a successful outcome.

US Commander: Working on Plans for Syria Intervention: NATO Nations Looking at Libya-Style 'No Fly Zone'

WASHINGTON (AP)
European Command leader Admiral James Stavridis has confirmed that the US and other NATO member nations are engaged in joint planning for the possibility of military intervention in Syria’s Civil War.
The admiral says the US would be “prepared if called upon to be engaged as we were in Libya,” and said that there is “a great deal of discussion” of trying to impose a no-fly zone over Syria.
Of course, the “no-fly zone” in Libya almost immediately morphed into a full scale air war to impose regime change on Libya, which NATO eventually did, leaving Libya the mess of militant factions it is today. Somehow this is being considered a model to reproduce in Syria.
A NATO/US military intervention in Syria will most probably mean war with Russia.
That NATO and the US government are even considering this reminds me of the very profound statement by the American comedian Ron White, when he said, in the middle of a set, "you can't fix stupid!!"
Unfortunately, such an intervention may have absolutely deadly consequences, not only for the Syrian people, but also the world as well.

Russian Air Force Readies for Massive Drills

RIA Novosti
More than 70 aircraft and some 1,000 troops will be deployed in a series of tactical drills in preparation for a large-scale exercise next week in northwest Russia, military officials said on Tuesday.
Preparations for the exercise, codenamed Ladoga-2013, have begun in the Republic of Karelia, and the Leningrad, Smolensk and Tver regions with tactical drills by fighters, bombers and army aviation.
Aviation to be used includes MiG-31 Foxhound and Su-27 Flanker fighters, MiG-25RB Foxbat interceptors, Su-24M Fencer attack aircraft, Su24MR reconnaissance aircraft and Mi-8 Hip multirole helicopters and Mi-24 Hind attack helicopters.
Interesting timing, this, just as NATO commanders have announced that they are ready to intervene militarily in Syria!

US' New "Syrian PM" Yet Another Muslim Brotherhood Extremist

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5ghjN2LDss_0vRV2jG4T8nHqDIBW5wpn6s4woOx6c6t87RW6reS6LXu0oLnzgNrvIg1LOHTNuUCEZwN73zKGGpuskjsEGcbJpvdQH5kaXf3H_mudoUf2RVvgmsUwwMkwJMeIG/s320/Syria_Hitto.jpgThe Western media eagerly announced that long time US resident Ghassan Hitto was chosen as the new "interim prime minister" of NATO's proxy forces fighting in Syria. While most headlines attempted to focus solely on Hitto's long stay in the US and his role in a tech firm based in Texas, The Globe and Mail reported in their article, "Canadian loses bid to lead Syria's rebels; Ottawa's stance assailed," that:
Ghassan Hitto, a Kurd with links to the Muslim Brotherhood, was elected in the early hours of Tuesday at a meeting of leading opposition figures of the Syrian National Coalition.
Some reports indicate that Hitto was in fact pushed forward specifically by the Muslim Brotherhood. The AFP reported in their article, "Ghassan Hitto voted premier of Syria's rebel territory," that:
Some Coalition members described Hitto as a consensus candidate pleasing both the opposition's Islamist and liberal factions.

This latest round of political "musical chairs" is meant to once again clear the board for the West in hopes of confusing the public, while NATO's proxies remain firmly led and comprised primarily of hardcore terrorists and sectarian extremist intent on the ruination of Syria, just as was done in the now decimated North African nation of Libya. Hitto takes the reins of this Western-contrived front from fellow sectarian extremist, Moaz al-Khatib, also an affiliate of the Muslim Brotherhood and an unabashed defender of Al Qaeda's al-Nusra front, who frequently takes credit for the indiscriminate bombings, murder and maiming of civilians across Syria.

Syria accuses rebels of firing chemical weapon

NATO Proxies Using WMD's in Syria - Dozens Dead

March 19, 2013 (LD) UPDATED - After a 10 year war/occupation in Iraq, the death of over a million people including thousands of US soldiers, all based on patently false claims of the nation possessing "weapons of mass destruction," (WMDs), it is outrageous hypocrisy to see the West arming, funding, and politically backing terrorists in Syria who in fact both possess, and are now using such weapons against the Syrian people.

At least 25 are reported dead after a chemical weapons attack targeting Syrian soldiers was carried out by NATO-backed terrorists in the northern city of Aleppo. While NATO-backed terrorists claim they lack the "expertise" to even use chemical weapons, it was reported by CNN in their December 2012 article, "Sources: U.S. helping underwrite Syrian rebel training on securing chemical weapons," that:
The United States and some European allies are using defense contractors to train Syrian rebels on how to secure chemical weapons stockpiles in Syria, a senior U.S. official and several senior diplomats told CNN Sunday.
And while some are attempting to suggest the use of chemical weapons by either side indicates "unsecured stockpiles" and a "security risk," the weapons could have just as likely come from Libya. Aleppo is located near the Syrian-Turkish border. Had Libya's looted stockpiles of chemical weapons been shipped to Syria, they would have passed through Turkey along with weapons sent from Libya by the US and thousands of Libyan terrorists who are admittedly operating inside Syria, and would most likely be used to target cities like Aleppo.

Worse yet, any chemical weapons imported into the country would implicate NATO either directly or through gross negligence, as the weapons would have passed through NATO-member Turkey, past US CIA agents
admittedly operating along the border and along side Western-backed terrorists inside Syria.

Libya's WMD's are in Terrorist Hands

Libya's arsenal had fallen into the hands of sectarian extremists with NATO assistance in 2011 during the culmination of efforts to overthrow the North African nation . Since then, Libya's militants led by commanders of
Al Qaeda's Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG) have armed sectarian extremists across the Arab World, from as far West as Mali, to as far East as Syria.

In addition to small arms, heavier weapons are also making their way through this extensive network. The Washington Post in their article, "
Libyan missiles on the loose," reported:
"Two former CIA counterterrorism officers told me last week that technicians recently refurbished 800 of these man-portable air-defense systems (known as MANPADS) — some for an African jihadist group called Boko Haram that is often seen as an ally of al-Qaeda — for possible use against commercial jets flying into Niger, Chad and perhaps Nigeria."
While undoubtedly these weapons are also headed to Niger, Chad, and perhaps Nigeria, they are veritably headed to Syria. Libyan LIFG terrorists are confirmed to be flooding into Syria from Libya. In November 2011, the Telegraph in their article, "Leading Libyan Islamist met Free Syrian Army opposition group," would report:
Abdulhakim Belhadj, head of the Tripoli Military Council and the former leader of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group, "met with Free Syrian Army leaders in Istanbul and on the border with Turkey," said a military official working with Mr Belhadj. "Mustafa Abdul Jalil (the interim Libyan president) sent him there."
Another Telegraph article, "Libya’s new rulers offer weapons to Syrian rebels," would admit
Syrian rebels held secret talks with Libya's new authorities on Friday, aiming to secure weapons and money for their insurgency against President Bashar al-Assad's regime, The Daily Telegraph has learned.
At the meeting, which was held in Istanbul and included Turkish officials, the Syrians requested "assistance" from the Libyan representatives and were offered arms, and potentially volunteers.
"There is something being planned to send weapons and even Libyan fighters to Syria," said a Libyan source, speaking on condition of anonymity. "There is a military intervention on the way. Within a few weeks you will see."
Later that month, some 600 Libyan terrorists would be reported to have entered Syria to begin combat operations and have been flooding into the country ever since.

Image: Libyan Mahdi al-Harati of the US State Department, United Nations, and the UK Home Office (page 5, .pdf)-listed terrorist organization, the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG), addressing fellow terrorists in Syria. Harati is now commanding a Libyan brigade operating inside of Syria attempting to destroy the Syrian government and subjugate the Syrian population. Traditionally, this is known as "foreign invasion."
....

Washington Post's reported "loose missiles" in Libya are now turning up on the battlefield in Syria. While outfits like the Guardian, in their article "
Arms and the Manpads: Syrian rebels get anti-aircraft missiles," are reporting the missiles as being deployed across Syria, they have attempted to downplay any connection to Libya's looted arsenal and the Al Qaeda terrorists that have imported them. In contrast, Times has published open admissions from terrorists themselves admitting they are receiving heavy weapons including surface-to-air missiles from Libya.

In Time's article, "
Libya’s Fighters Export Their Revolution to Syria," it is reported:
Some Syrians are more frank about the assistance the Libyans are providing. “They have heavier weapons than we do,” notes Firas Tamim, who has traveled in rebel-controlled areas to keep tabs on foreign fighters. “They brought these weapons to Syria, and they are being used on the front lines.” Among the arms Tamim has seen are Russian-made surface-to-air missiles, known as the SAM 7.

Libyan fighters largely brush off questions about weapon transfers, but in December they claimed they were doing just that. “We are in the process of collecting arms in Libya,” a Libyan fighter in Syria told the French daily Le Figaro. “Once this is done, we will have to find a way to bring them here.”
Clearly NATO's intervention in Libya has left a vast, devastating arsenal in the hands of sectarian extremists, led by US State Department, United Nations, and the UK Home Office (page 5, .pdf)-listed terrorist organization LIFG, that is now exporting these weapons and militants to NATO's other front in Syria. It is confirmed that both Libyan terrorists and weapons are crossing the Turkish-Syrian border, with NATO assistance, and it is now clear that heavy weapons, including anti-aircraft weapons have crossed the border too.
The Guardian reported in their November 2011 article, "Libyan chemical weapons stockpiles intact, say inspectors," that:
Libya's stockpiles of mustard gas and chemicals used to make weapons are intact and were not stolen during the uprising that toppled Muammar Gaddafi, weapons inspectors have said.
But also reported that:
The abandonment or disappearance of some Gaddafi-era weapons has prompted concerns that such firepower could erode regional security if it falls into the hands of Islamist militants or rebels active in north Africa. Some fear they could be used by Gaddafi loyalists to spread instability in Libya.
Last month Human Rights Watch urged Libya's ruling national transitional council to take action over large numbers of heavy weapons, including surface-to-air missiles, it said were lying unguarded more than two months after Gaddafi was overthrown.

On Wednesday the UN secretary general, Ban Ki-moon, said the UN would send experts to Libya to help ensure nuclear material and chemical weapons did not fall into the wrong hands.

And while inspectors claim that Libya's chemical weapons are in the "government's" hands and not "extremists'," it is clear by the Libyan government's own admission, that they themselves are involved in sending fighters and weapons into Syria.

It remains to be seen where these chemical weapons came from. Should they appear to be from Libya's arsenal, NATO, especially the US and Turkey, would be implicated in supplying Al Qaeda terrorists with WMDs, the very scenario the West has been paralyzed in fear over for the past 10 years, has given up its liberties, and spilled the blood of thousands of its soldiers to prevent.

The implications of Western-backed terrorists using chemical weapons, regardless of their origin, has cost the West its already floundering legitimacy, jeopardized its institutions, and has further shook the confidence of the many shareholders invested in them - politically, financially, industrially, and strategically. Such shareholders would be wise to begin looking for exits and cultivating alternatives outside the
Wall Street-London international order.

John McCain, Lindsey Graham Press Obama On Syria Intervention After Chemical Weapons Reports

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Tuesday responded to conflicting and unconfirmed reports of chemical weapons being used in Syria by increasing pressure on President Barack Obama to approve U.S. military involvement in the Middle East nation's ongoing strife.
"President Obama has said that the use of weapons of mass destruction by Bashar Assad is a ‘red line’ for him that ‘will have consequences,’" the senators wrote in a joint statement. "If today’s reports are substantiated, the President’s red line has been crossed, and we would urge him to take immediate action to impose the consequences he has promised."

At least 26 reportedly killed in alleged Syrian chemical weapons attack

http://www.foxnews.com/world/2013/03/19/syria-says-rebels-kill-16-in-chemical-weapon-attack/
Rami Abdelrahman, head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, told Reuters that 16 Syrian Army soldiers were killed in the explosion...
So, the US Government would have you believe that Assad is so evil he gasses his own soldiers? Hardly. No FSA are reported to have been victims of this attack, hence this confirms our suspicions that the hired mercenary army carried out the attack, to blame on Assad, to hand the US an excuse to directly invade Syria.

Syrian terrorists blamed for chemical weapons attack

News from Syria says that some people killed in the attack were Syrian military....
Why would Bashar al Assad kill his own soldiers by rocketing them with chemical weapons.

WW3 BBC caught changing headline over chemical attack in Syria trying to shift the blame

Now that it has been confirmed that the chemical weapons attack was directed against Syrian government soldiers and civilians, will the BBC change their headline back? Probably not.
If it wasn't for TopGear, BBC would be utterly useless.

Cyprus Disaster is Worse Than You Think!

The Cyprus Bailout is the result of years and years of escalating attacks against taxpayers all across the world. This bailout is in reality a grand theft. The European Union is offering the island nation a supposed 13 billion euro bailout that will come at the cost of having bank accounts taxed 9.9%. Small accounts will be taxed 6.7%, while people with larger savings will lose at least 9.9% of your money. This is never happened before. And you can bet your bank account that it will happen again. I think this is a test run for something bigger.

Mass Panic In Cyprus: The Banks Are Collapsing And ATMs Are Running Out Of Money

European officials are openly admitting that the two largest banks in Cyprus are “insolvent“, and it is now being reported that Cyprus Popular Bank only has “enough liquidity to cover the next few hours“. Of course all banks in Cyprus are officially closed until Tuesday at the earliest, but there have been long lines at ATMs all over Cyprus as people scramble to get whatever money they can out of the banks. Unfortunately, some ATMs appear to be “malfunctioning” and others appear to have already run out of cash. You can see some photos of huge lines at one ATM in Cyprus right here. Some businesses are now even refusing to take credit card payments. This is creating an atmosphere of panic on the streets of Cyprus. Meanwhile, the EU is holding a gun to the head of the Cyprus financial system. Either Cyprus meets EU demands by Monday, or liquidity for the banks will be totally cut off and Cyprus will be forced out of the euro.

ANXIOUS Cypriots queued outside Popular Bank ATM machines to withdraw their cash as fears rose that the country's banking meltdown will mean its second largest bank closes for ever.

Cyprus' second largest bank has stopped customers withdrawing more than 260 euros (£221) a day from cash machines, as MPs said they needed more time to reach a deal to save the country's economy.

Confidence in Financial System Lost Forever Due to Cyprus Bank Heist

The only thing keeping Dollars, Euros and all the rest from becoming fuel for heat in the winter and toilet paper year round IS “confidence”. Confidence also allows business transactions to evolve and to consummate. The kid down the street will cut your lawn because he is “confident” that you will pay him when he is done. You go to work with the confidence that your employer will pay you at the end of the week. This same confidence exists between producers and consumers, manufacturers and distributors and end users. It exists between…depositors and bankers (or at least it did). ”Confidence” exists only because we have laws, laws that are followed and enforced from top to bottom and everywhere in between. Confidence can also exist because one’s “character” is known and respected. It takes time for this “known and respected” character to be built, it only takes one bad act to destroy it.

Cyprus Races To Complete Rescue Plan As Time Runs Out

Politicians in Cyprus were racing Saturday to complete an alternative plan raising funds necessary for the country to qualify for an international bailout, with a potential bankruptcy just three days away.
Finance Minister Michalis Sarris said "significant progress" had been made, and that new legislation raising funds could be completed and submitted to Parliament as early as Saturday evening, although the timing was not certain.
Cyprus has been told it must raise 5.8 billion euros ($7.5 billion) in order to secure 10 billion euros in rescue loans from other European countries that use the single currency, and from the International Monetary Fund. The country's lawmakers soundly rejected an unpopular initial plan that would have seized up to 10 percent of people's bank accounts, and is now seeking a way to raise the desperately needed money.
IF Cyprus goes bankrupt on Tuesday, all hell is going to break loose with the EU, and the contagion could well spill over into the American financial markets.
So please, during the interim, keep just as much cash as you need to pay your bills in your bank, and have the rest under your own personal control.

Cyprus: The Mouse that Roared

The Cyprus banking crisis presents, in microcosm, everything that is perverse about the European leaders’ response to the continuing financial collapse. And bravo to the Cypriot Parliament for rejecting the EU’s insane demand to condition a bank bailout on a large tax on small depositors.
If this crisis threatens to spread to other nations, it’s a good object lesson. Here is the punch line of this column: Its time for Europe’s small nations, who are getting slammed into permanent depression by the arrogance of Berlin and Brussels, to think about abandoning the euro. At least the threat would strengthen their bargaining position, and if they actually quit the euro, the result could hardly be worse than their permanent sentence to debtors’ prison. More on that in a moment.

Euro zone call notes reveal extent of alarm over Cyprus

Euro zone finance officials acknowledged being "in a mess" over Cyprus during a conference call on Wednesday and discussed imposing capital controls to insulate the region from a possible collapse of the Cypriot economy.

Could Cyprus’s gold reserves play a part in the crisis?

Russia 24, the Russian state news channel, reports that under the current plan that is being discussed by the Cypriot parliament, the Central Bank of Cyprus will sell its gold reserves in order to cover a part of the 5.86 billion euros demanded by the Eurogroup. Other sources of financing the country’s “contribution” include such outrageous measures as a special levy on bank accounts and the expropriation of the money held by the Cypriot pension system, so everyone’s attention is diverted from the sale of gold.
The unasked question; just where is Cyprus' gold bullion being stored?

Foreign banks banned from opening branches in Russia

Last week, Vladimir Putin signed a law prohibiting foreign banks from opening branches in Russia. The bill stipulates that foreign-based financial institutions only operate in Russia through subsidiaries and representative offices.
Russia’s regulatory authorities and the government had supported the idea of removing branches of foreign banks from the country for years. The key rationale was that such entities do not fall within Russian jurisdiction and are not subject to full-scale scrutiny, which means the risks they pose to the banking system are difficult to assess and mitigate.
The Russian government insists that another reason for adopting this measure was the need to give Russian credit institutions a competitive edge. Although the law “On Banks and Banking” gave foreign institutions the green light to open branches in Russia, the Bank of Russia has hardly issued a single permit in the last 10 to 15 years.
“This was because they [the branches of foreign banks] don’t keep individual financial records, are not subject to prudential requirements and cannot be kept in check by the local regulator: that is, they are out of control and don’t play by the rules set for the other competitors,” says a source close to the Bank of Russia.
Foreign bank branches in Russia would greatly increase the systemic risks for the Russian banking system, according to experts.
After this ban on foreign banks was issued, the Cyprus deposit theft was proposed. These two events are connected. - kdtroxel

EU Caught Playing Dirty and it’s all about Russian Gas

Yesterday morning, Oilprice.com’s Jen Alic took us through the nuances of this game, noting that Russia could bail out Cyprus in return for a nice chuck of exploration acreage offshore. By the close of the day, that is exactly how things appeared to be unfolding. Later in the day, it began to emerge that Gazprom had reportedly offered Cyprus a bailout deal in return for offshore exploration rights. But by Friday, Russian and Greek Cypriot officials had said no deal had been reached. The deal Cyprus put on the table was the creation of a Cypriot state company with control of gas reserves into which Russian companies could invest, along with a nice stake in Cypriot banks to be rescued by the Russian investment fund. It’s not enough for Moscow, which is holding out for more—and likely to get it if the EU refuses to budge.
Russia, having kicked out their money-junkies and put their central bank under state control, is now an economic power against which no nation enslaved to a private central bank can compete. This is the exact repeat of the situation in the 1930s, in which Germany, which also had placed their central bank under state control, became an economic power against which no nation enslaved to a private central bank could compete.
"We will force this war upon Hitler, if he wants it or not." - Winston Churchill (1936 broadcast)
"Germany becomes too powerful. We have to crush it." - Winston Churchill (November 1936 speaking to US - General Robert E. Wood)
"This war is an English war and its goal is the destruction of Germany." - Winston Churchill (- Autumn 1939 broadcast)

Thus, from historical precedent, the west's solution will not be the smart move to end the private central banks, but, goaded by those same private central banks, send your children to die in a war to crush Russia as they did Germany, to preserve the private central bankers' global domination and enslavement.
It is time to ask if the preservation of this Ponzi-scheme system of economics is worth the life of your child.

Cyprus Rejects EU Bailout Plan And Turns To Russia For Help

Germany warns Cyprus its banks may NEVER reopen as Russia 'offers to write off debt if Gazprom get access to untapped oil fields'

Germany has warned Cyprus that its crisis-stricken banks may never reopen if the country rejects the terms of a bailout.
Wolfgang Schaeuble, Germany's finance minister whose country is Europe's main paymaster, said major Cypriot banks were 'insolvent if there are no emergency funds'.
Russian energy giant Gazprom has offered Cyprus a plan in which the company will undertake the restructuring of the country’s banks in exchange for exploration rights for natural gas on the island.

Will Russia try to seize a foothold in the Med? Energy giant offers to restructure banks in exchange for gas exploration rights

Russia could use the crisis in Cyprus to secure a military foothold and energy rights in the Mediterranean, it was claimed last night.
President Vladimir Putin called the decision to seize money from savers’ bank accounts as ‘unfair, unprofessional and dangerous’.
But in a move that has raised eyebrows, the Russian energy giant Gazprom offered Cyprus a plan in which the company will undertake the restructuring of the country’s banks in exchange for exploration rights for natural gas on the island.

Cyprus says No to bank raid and turns to Russia: Two in three islanders now want to leave the eurozone

Yesterday there were extraordinary reports that Cypriot leaders were refusing to take calls from the European Central Bank. Instead, they were locked in talks with Vladimir Putin’s government about a Russian bailout.
...
A poll for a Cypriot TV station showed that 67.3 per cent say the country should leave the euro and tighten relations with Russia, which is desperate to regain influence in the eastern Mediterranean and Middle East.
...
Last night an emergency Bill submitted to parliament gave the finance minister or central bank governor the right to impose capital controls on banks – a ban on moving cash outside the country, which would be a serious blow to the single market.

Bernanke Fails to Answer Concerns about a Cyprus-Style Seizure of American Bank Deposits

The government of Cyprus wants to grab bank deposits, and the chief economist of the German Commerzbank has called for private savings accounts in Italy to be similarly plundered, and other nations may be moving in that direction as well.
The American government has seized private assets before, and President Obama authorized seizure of property again last year. (The Argentinian government grabbed 401k assets; and some in the American government have mulled the same thing. And the U.S. government’s take-down of Megaupload was also an exercise of the power to seize all of the legal property held in a storage facility because a handful of crooks have illegal property in theirs. )
Zero Hedge has been warning for years that Western governments – including the U.S. – would eventually seize bank assets.
Bernanke was asked yesterday whether a Cyprus-style grab of bank deposits is possible in the U.S.
If you don't understand anything else about the banking crisis, understand this; All the bailouts and wealth confiscation will not change the ultimate outcome of this crisis, as long as the infernal machine that plunged the world into unpayable debt, private central banks issuing all of the public currency as a loan at interest, are allowed to continue their nefarious operations.

Cyprus Financial System Goes Into Lockdown: EU To Close Cyprus Popular, Bank Of Cyprus, Weighs 40% Haircut On Uninsured Cypriot Deposits In Bad-Bank Plan. Major Cyprus Bank Has Only A Few Hours Of Liquidity Left, And Is Limiting Cash Withdrawals

Cyprus ATMs Low On Cash, Credit Card Payments Refused; Medvedev Compares Europe To USSR

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2013-03-20/cyprus-atms-low-cash-credit-card-payments-refused-medvedev-compares-europe-ussr
So far the market has been largely oblivious of the shattered trust and changed dynamic in European banking dynamics for one simple reason: Cyprus banks have been closed, and likely will be closed indefinitely, preventing the mass media from broadcasting what happens when an entire population, and foreign depositors, decide to clear out the holdings of their bank accounts, either physically or electronically, and the public anger the will result when they find that courtesy of fractional reserve banking, only a tiny amount of said deposits is actually present.
In the meantime, retail depositors have had their withdrawals limited through a form of capital controls, allowing them to pull only as much as the daily limit is on given ATMs. So far the banks have had enough cash to keep ATMs stocked up to the daily required minimum, but that may soon be ending. BBC's Mark Lowen, in Nicosia, reports that "Cyprus' banks are still giving out cash through machines - although with limits, and some are running low." Ironically, as physical cash becomes ever scarcer, merchants are now clamping down on electronic payments unsure if they will ever be able to convert electronic euros into actual ones: "Some businesses are now refusing credit card payments, our correspondent reports."
Logically, this progression of limited transactions will accelerate exponentially until by some miracle, either normalcy returns and faith in the local banking system is restored, or every form of commerce, trade and exchange grinds to a halt, leading to a localized, at first, manifestation of the "just-in-time" supply-chain cross contagion that was explained in painful detail in "Trade-Off: a study in global systemic collapse."
Since we don't believe in miracles, our money is increasingly on the latter. This sentiment is further reinforced by former Russian president, current Prime Minister, and Putin mouthpiece, Dmitry Medvedev, who said that what Europe has done is nothing shy of what the USSR used to do in its attempt to destroy faith in private property, and thus, capitalism.
From the FT and Reuters:
Mr Medvedev said the EU and Cyprus had acted “like an elephant in a China shop”.

“All possible mistakes that could be made have been made by them,” he added.

"We are living in the 21st century, under market economic conditions. Everybody has been insisting that ownership rights should be respected.”

Mr Medvedev also criticised the decision to freeze the Cypriot banking system, and not just withdrawals from troubled banks, warning that if this continued for any length of time it could “result in losses . . . even bury the whole banking sector of Cyprus. It will cease to exist,” he said.
...

The proposed bank levy, rejected by the Cypriot parliament on Tuesday, had a "clearly confiscatory, expropriating character," RIA quoted him as saying - remarks that echo earlier criticism by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
It was, Medvedev said, "absolutely unprecedented".
"I can only compare it some of the decisions taken ... by Soviet authorities, who did not give a thought to the savings of the population."
Alas, it is not just in Cyprus that the current failing status quo has become the USSR incarnate: one can see it in the central planning of the stock market, in the general approach toward the wealthy, in the absurd penetration of cronyism and the terminal corruption of the system.
And while we commiserate with the simple people of Cyprus (and soon everywhere else), who have for no fault of their own become the first pawns to be sacrificed in the systemic endspiel, we are grateful to Europe for proving us, once again, correct.
Because our only purpose with this media experiment has been to warn our readers that concentrating unlimited decision-making power in the hands of a very few conflicted individuals, without checks and without balances, always, always, ends in absolute disaster, bloodshed, and ultimately war.
Sadly, at this point there is nothing that can change the final outcome of what is an ongoing systemic failure. One can, at most, prepare as much as possible and hope for the best.

Will 2013 Be 2008 All Over Again? Cyprus levy Is A True Game-Changer And Euro Zone’s Very Own Lehman Moment, China Is Flashing Warning Signs That A Financial Crisis May Be Approaching, And 3 Out of 4 Americans Say We’re Headed for Economic Crisis

Cyprus is euro zone’s very own Lehman moment

Needlessly introducing new fear chokes off bull market

Only a few days ago, the markets were looking in good shape — indeed in better shape than they have at any time since the crash of 2008.
Japan was coming back to life. The Dow (DJI:DJIA)  was recovering its highs of five years ago. Some of the European markets were bouncing up again, and gold was falling in value as investors decided the economy was getting back to stability, and perhaps even a normal level of growth.
And then? The euro-zone crisis flares up again. In Cyprus, euro-zone finance ministers meeting late on a Friday night decided to impose a levy on all bank accounts in the country as part of a bailout agreement for the island.
For the sake of 5.7 billion euros — a sum so small it would be an insult to peanuts to compare it to a packet of the salty nuts — the people running the single currency put the recovery in jeopardy.
It was a “Lehman moment” — a tiny decision, with huge consequences. And the euro zone looks set to keep lobbing those moments at the market, choking off every potential bull run.
Cyprus voted down the bill to impose the confiscation of depositor’s money. The IMF must act as their bluff has been called by the Russians. The IMF must lose face here by backing down or they will start a Western world run on the banks.

The Great Cyprus Bank Robbery Shows That No Bank Account, No Retirement Fund And No Stock Portfolio Is Safe

The global elite have now proven that when the chips are down they are going to go after any big pile of money that they think they can get their hands on.  That means that no bank account, no retirement fund and no stock portfolio on earth is safe.  Up until now, most people assumed that private bank accounts were untouchable and that deposit insurance actually meant something.  Now we see that there is no pile of money that is considered “off limits” by the global elite and deposit insurance means absolutely nothing.  The number one thing that any financial system depends on is faith.  If people do not have faith in the safety and stability of a financial system, it will not work.  Well, the people that rule the world have just taken a sledgehammer to the trust that we all had in the global financial system.  They have broken the unwritten social contract that global banking depends on.  So now we will see a run on the banks, and this will not just be limited to a few countries in southern Europe.  Rather, this will be worldwide in scope.  Yoda may have put it this way: “Begun, the global bank run has.”  All over the world, frightened people are going to start pulling money out of the banks.  A lot of that money will go into gold, silver and other hard assets.  And as money starts coming out of the banks, this could cause many of the large banks that have been teetering on the edge of disaster to finally collapse….

Cyprus Bank Heist: A True Game-Changer

Near-term risks include domino-like bank runs & capital controls
This is a complete game-changer.  It means that even money in the bank is not safe.  It implies that money in pension and money market accounts is not safe, either.  It means that rule of laws and contracts really don’t matter.  Of course, MF Global taught us that.  It finally means that trust is no longer a part of the equation…

Euro Banking System On The Verge Of Collapse

News came out yesterday that all Cypriot banks will continue to be closed until at least next Tuesday and may remain closed permanently.
Last week, the European Central Bank threatened to cut the Emergency Liquidity Assistance which Cyprus had been receiving unless Cyprus’ major banks implemented legislation which would “tax” all investors who have accounts in Cypriot banks an amount up to 9.9 percent of their total deposits. The tax was rejected by the Cyprus parliament on Tuesday.

Sort it by Monday! ECB sets deadline for Cyprus plan to raise €5.8bn

The European Central Bank has given the Cypriot government until Monday to come up with a plan to raise €5.8bn before it stops supporting the island's troubled banks, plunging the country into economic chaos and towards an exit from the single currency.
Politicians are frantically trying to scrape together a package to raise the money and get it approved by parliament by the end of the day. But they are playing a delicate balancing act, anxious to please the 'troika' of the EU, ECB and International Monetary Fund (IMF), while not alienating their biggest investors in Russia.

ECB: Cyprus Bank Funding to Be Cut Unless Bailout Reached

The European Union gave Cyprus until Monday to raise the billions of euros it needs to clinch an international bailout or face the collapse of its financial system and likely exit from the euro currency zone.
This is a classic example of why Adam Smith was wrong about personal greed moving the entire system forward. The Money-junkies are listening only to their addiction with this renewed demand (and blackmail) that the government of Cyprus loot the savings accounts of the people. There are only two possible outcomes from this course of action. In the first, the people of Cyprus stand firm, and the Cyprus banks collapse. In the second, the looting of citizens' bank accounts goes forward, there is rioting and runs on the banks, and the Cyprus banks collapse. Either way, this triggers the Credit Default Swaps sold against Cyprus' debts, and the sellers of those derivatives do not have the cash reserves to make good. In all probability here in the US, the government will try to loot the peoples' accounts to allow Wall Street to make good on the derivatives. There are only two possible outcomes from this course of action. In the first, the people of the United States stand firm, and the United States banks collapse. In the second, the looting of citizens' bank accounts goes forward, there is rioting and runs on the banks, and the United States banks collapse.
The only solution to this mess is the Jackson/Lincoln/Kennedy approach. Shut down the private central banks, everywhere.

Pictures From A Cyprus ATM Line

For a few days, the people of Cyprus were calm, quietly and orderly accepting the unreality of the levy being imposed upon them - incredulous that it was even possible. As we reach the 4th day of bank closures, amid rolling rumors and ECB threats, it appears the people have reached a tipping point as this series of images from Cyprus ATM lines indicates - the bank-jog has arrived. When will it become a full blown sprint?

Cyprus blocked accounts of Russian government officials. The situation is developing in the most negative scenario

Dmitry Medvedev said that the amount of so-called “gray deposits” Russians in Cyprus banks are exaggerated, and that in Cyprus running “a large number of government agencies,” the Russian Federation, “as it is convenient for the jurisdiction of the transaction.” According to him, “they have now blocked the money for some reason, because the source of this money is obvious, the money brought everywhere.” ”That’s why – he said, – and we have to take such a strong enough position regarding the events around Cyprus and Debt Settlement of Cyprus.”
As for deposits, which, “as they say, are specific and indicate the” gray “schemes withdraw money from Russia,” is how assured the head of the Russian government in an interview to “Interfax” , and a number of European media, “they did not amount as significant as this to say. ”

BREAKING: Russian treasury unable to meet it's financial obligations. All government agencies see asset freeze in Cyprus-Prime Minister Medvedev

Interesting interview by Medvedev today who admitted that most Russian government agencies use Cyprus for it’s financial transactions.
A few points here:
-How corrupt does a country have to be for its government agencies to use a tax haven for financial transactions?
-From latest reports, the Cypriot banks might open on March 26th at the earliest. That’s two weeks after being shut down. That’s two weeks of unmet financial obligations, ie government employee salaries, public works financing, unpaid pensions etc etc…Expect unrest on the streets of Moscow
-The EU/Germany are certainly aware that 95% of all Russian money goes through the Cypriot banks. Certainly they were well aware of the consequences this would lead to. Is this the first salvo in the new world war??

Russia complains government accounts blocked in Cyprus
Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev complained Thursday that accounts of Russian government agencies in Cyprus had been blocked as Cypriot Finance Minister Michalis Sarris was set to resume talks in Moscow to secure aid.
In comments released early Thursday, Medvedev warned that Russia would take a “firm” stand on Cyprus because the accounts of governmment structures had been blocked on the island.

Russian PM Medvedev, berates EU Chief. Moscow no warning of Cyprus levy. Russia may reduce holdings of Euro to Gold!

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev berated the EU chief for the handling of Cyprus. It appears, Russia was not given a warning on how the ECB planned on levying the deposits in Cyprus as part of the bail out.
What else did he do when berating the EU chief? He threatened to reduce Russia's holdings in the Euro.
Russia is supposedly reconsidering the EUR in the structure of its gold and forex reserves in light of the Cyprus situation – an undertone threat in retaliation to European authorities’ obsession with Cypriot Russian deposit accounts.
Are Russia and China ready to let it all fall down? Have they completely accumulated/ positioned to let the gold prices ride to infinity and the rest of the world burn?
