Les nouvelles Internet représentent les grands espaces ouverts, celles des médias traditionnels sont une prison stérile
Un facteur qui effraie certains lecteurs de nouvelles lorsqu'ils rencontrent l'Internet est son manque de plafonds de clôtures; sa négation complète des frontières traditionnelles et des filtres toujours présents dans les médias traditionnels. Quand il s'agit de consommation de l'information, de nombreux Américains sont agoraphobes; lorsqu'ils sont exposés à de grands espaces ouverts, ils paniquent. En même temps, beaucoup de gens trouvent la circulation effrénée des nouvelles sur l'Internet libératrice.
Certaines sources de nouvelles sur le Web, comme la plupart des points de vente des grands médias, ne sont pas fiables, alors que d'autres sont incroyablement précises. L'Internet vous oblige, le lecteur et le chercheur, à vérifier la viabilité de l'information que vous rencontrez. Vous n'êtes plus un observateur passif faisant frire vos synapses en face d'une boîte parlante, mais plutôt un participant dans le domaine des nouvelles, recherchant et séparant ce qui est un fait, de ce qui ne l'est pas. Les utilisateurs de nouvelles sur le Web doivent faire des efforts individuels dans leur apprentissage, ce qui est, franchement, la façon dont cela devrait être.
Les médias télévisés et la presse écrite ne vous offrent pas différentes avenues d'information à explorer, ils vous disent ce qu'il faut croire et comment vous sentir, ou bien ils ne font que renforcer les fausses hypothèses que vous aviez déjà adoptées sur le monde, au lieu de vous pousser à réfléchir au-delà de votre bulle de confort moelleux. Il est beaucoup plus facile de s'assoir et vous alimenter de ce que vous donnent les médias traditionnels, même si cela est tout à fait insatisfaisant et intellectuellement déstabilisant. Les gens dont l'exposition à l'information provient exclusivement à travers les canaux traditionnels de nouvelles semblent littéralement régresser en tant qu'êtres humains au point d'atteindre l'instinct machinal de base. Étrangement, de cette manière, les médias d'entreprise créent un sentiment collectif d'isolement personnel dans la populace. Nous nous sentons attirés par les médias de masse, car ils offrent l'illusion de la communauté, de la connexion à ceux qui nous entourent, mais en réalité, cela dégrade en fait notre capacité à penser clairement et honnêtement, cela rend impossible de faire des connexions avec autrui. Le résultat est une masse de l'humanité en compote, tous avec la même vision du monde faussée, mais, ironiquement, sans camaraderie et terrain d'entente.
Les nouvelles sur le Web offre une participation, une communauté, et cela nous presse à non seulement tout remettre en question, mais en fait à sortir et répondre à nos propres questions au lieu d'attendre que quelqu'un d'autre, ayant possiblement un agenda, le fasse pour nous. Les médias de masse ne peuvent simplement pas rivaliser avec cette dynamique.
Biais, mensonges et le statu quo
Les grands médias n'ont jamais été des «fournisseurs» de nouvelles. En fait, ils sont plutôt des «nettoyeurs» des nouvelles, une turbine de papier abrasif et de mousse à savon conçus pour éliminer les morceaux d'informations «sales» qui contredisent le statu quo. Les fils de nouvelles comme AP ou Reuters suppriment environ 90% de la vérité de leurs rapports, ou combinent la vérité à l'opinion biaisée dans une tentative de minimiser son effet. Les nouvelles traditionnelles prennent alors cette information et la tamise encore davantage de données encore plus précieuses. Le zombie moyen de la pop culture suivant les grands médias n'est probablement exposé qu'à environ 1% la vérité quotidiennement, même s'il porte attention à autant que cela. Pour ceux qui s'en foutent éperdument de tout ce qui est au-delà de leur existence immédiate, 1% est plus que suffisant. Toutefois, un bon nombre d'entre nous sommes conscients de notre environnement et très insatisfaits de cette situation.
L'erreur que de nombreux Américains font, c'est d'assumer que les nouvelles corporatives sont un «service», un service au public. Ce n'est pas le cas. Les médias de masse s'occupent des intérêts de leurs actionnaires et leur PDG, rien de plus. Les grands médias ne sont même pas obligés par la loi d'être factuels dans leur présentation de l'information, mis à part se cela implique la diffamation, et même ces freins et contrepoids sont progressivement mis de côté. La saga des journalistes Jane Akre et Steve Wilson concernant leur lutte contre la suppression qu'on fait Fox et Monsanto de leur histoire sur les effets cancérigènes des hormones de croissance rBGH, a prouvé que les échelons supérieurs de notre système juridique coopèrent complètement avec les tentatives des médias pour censurer les informations pertinentes, voire même de mentir de façon éhontée:
Ces analystes alternatifs qui en quelque sorte passent à travers les mailles du filet des nouvelles corporatives semblent être traités et couverts de ridicule et de mépris pour les faits qu'ils rapportent. Dans la vidéo ci-dessous, Peter Schiff tente de prévenir le public en 2006 de l'effondrement du marché à venir et de la crise immobilière à venir, expliquant exactement comment l'effondrement hypothécaire commencerait. Au lieu d'examiner sa logique rationnelle, les experts de Fox News rient de lui et l'enterrent en parlant plus fort que lui. On se demande si ces clowns rient toujours aujourd'hui:
Les attaques incessantes par les médias traditionnels (de Fox en passant par MSNBC) de tout mouvement ou organisation constitutionnaliste, des Tea Party aux Oathkeepers, ou toute autre idéologie anti-establishment, ont révélé un mépris total de l'objectivité par les journalistes qui sont censés être leur fierté. Les accusations ridicules et totalement sans fondement contre les candidats du mouvement libertaire comme Ron Paul et Paul Rand, allant du racisme à l'extrémisme et le terrorisme, sont maintenant la norme. Et ils se demandent pourquoi tout le monde est en train d'éteindre leur poste de télévision!? Combien de temps pouvez-vous regarder un gang de grands enfants en habits lancer des railleries d'écolier de satellite à satellite contre les hommes honorables qui ont à peine eu la chance de se défendre dans un forum égalitaire? Peut-être que ma capacité d'attention est courte, ou peut-être que certains sont facilement divertis, mais la plupart d'entre nous tombons dans l'ennui assez rapidement avec ce genre de comportement pathétique.
L'essentiel est que les médias travaillent avec l'objectif de suppression, non pas de révélation, et les Américains commencent à comprendre cela. Pourquoi prendre la peine de regarder une interview 10 minutes entre MSNBC et Ron Paul ou Rand Paul, avec les délais satellites, les montages vidéo, les tactiques Alinsky, ou la logique circulaire? Nous n'apprenons rien parce que l'entrevue n'a pas été conçue par MSNBC pour découvrir la vérité, elle a été conçue pour l'affaiblir. De manière risible, c'est l'establishment médiatique qui a réclamé des régulations ainsi que des gardiens pour contrôler les médias alternatifs en raison d'un manque de «responsabilité» dans les nouvelles du Web:
Mais qu'en savent les grands médias, de cette responsabilité et des comptes à rendre? Ou même des reportages basés sur des faits? Ces gens sont une honte pour le journalisme et ils ont l'audace d'exiger le professionnalisme de la part des médias alternatifs?! Il m'est impossible de compter le nombre d'histoires inexactes ou fabriquées que j'ai couvert et disséqué dans mes années à écrire pour le mouvement libertaire. Où sont l'indignation et la colère à propos de ces erreurs? Quelle source de nouvelles est vraiment coupable de duplicité?
Les médias alternatifs sur le Web n'ont pas besoin de «gardiens» pour choisir les informations les plus informatives et pertinentes. Nos lecteurs doivent être capables de vérifier nos informations et de décider par eux-mêmes si elles sont fiables ou de mauvaise foi. Dans le cas des médias de masse, nous sommes les gardiens! Il est évident qu'ils ne tiennent pas leurs propres reportages à quelconque critère de sincérité...
Journalistes citoyens, justice citoyenne
Les médias alternatifs représentent un changement de paradigme incroyable, non seulement dans la façon dont nous prenons part à la diffusion de l'information, mais aussi dans la façon dont nous percevons notre rôle dans les événements mondiaux. Nous ne sommes plus limités aux lignes directrices et règles du système élitiste, un système qui est finalement destiné à nous nuire, et non pas nous aider. Aujourd'hui, nous avons des outils à notre disposition qui rendent les anciennes méthodes restreignantes de distribution de nouvelles complètement obsolètes. Aujourd'hui, à la portée du bout de leurs doigts, chaque Américain a la chance de contribuer activement à la plus grande somme de connaissances qui conduit finalement les tromperies à la mort, mais d'un autre côté, à la promotion du progrès social.
Rien n'est parfait, y compris le Web. Il y aura toujours de la désinformation à trier, indépendamment de toute nouvelle technologie ou de tout règlement. Cela fait partie de la vie dans une société libre. Nous ne comptons pas sur les entités gouvernementales ou les entreprises pour fixer les normes de la vérité, nous fixons ces normes pour nous-mêmes, et si nous échouons, ce sera uniquement parce que nous les aurons fixées trop bas.
Il est intéressant de voir les promoteurs de l'establishment toujours utiliser la proclamation du «plus grand bien commun» comme prétexte pour réprimer tout ce qui menace leur structure de pouvoir. Mais réfléchissons à cela pendant une seconde, quel est ce plus grand bien commun dans ce cas? Est-ce dans l'intérêt du plus grand bien commun que de contrôler et censurer l'Internet parce que de fausses nouvelles POURRAIENT se répandre là? Ou d'imposer des «protections» sur le dos des gens parce qu'on les pense être trop paresseux ou trop stupides? Ou, au contraire, pouvons-nous trouver le plus grand bien commun dans l'information libre, et à travers l'élaboration d'un public assez mature pour partir à la recherche des faits par lui-même? Est-il vraiment préférable de maintenir un système monopolistique de nouvelles qui a été démontré à maintes reprises comme étant défectueux, carburant à la propagande, sans vergogne et simpliste? Ou alors, est-il est à notre avantage de fournir une autre avenue, une concurrence plus équitable et de voir que l'on répond mieux aux besoins de la population? Lorsque nous nous arrêtons un instant pour considérer ce qu'est le réel «plus grand bien commun» pourrait être, nous constatons que cela ne coïncide pas du tout avec les désirs de l'establishment.
Si nous avons besoin de quoi que ce soit à cette conjoncture dans l'histoire, c'est du journaliste citoyen. Nous n'avons pas besoin d'un message sponsorisé par les intérêts corporatifs, mais plutôt de millions de voix indépendantes, toutes à la recherche de la vérité de leur propre manière unique. Seulement alors pourrons nous récupérer notre identité et d'atteindre un sentiment légitime de justice dans ce pays. De grands changements commencent par une révolution des idées, une volonté individuelle, et par une multitude d'yeux ouverts. L'Internet est un catalyseur pour l'avènement d'un tel événement, le type qui ne se produit peut-être qu'une seule fois par millénaire. Nous ne pouvons pas permettre qu'il soit vilipendé par des escrocs ou dominé par des tyrans, en aucune circonstance, sinon, nous perdrons notre initiative, et avec elle, notre voix.
John Perkins : Nous, assassins économiques, sommes les réels responsables dans la création du premier véritable empire global et nous travaillons de plusieurs façons différentes. Mais, peut-être que la plus commune est que nous identifions un pays détenant des ressources, comme le pétrole. Alors, nous arrangeons un énorme prêt pour ce pays auprès de la banque mondiale ou l'une de ses organisations sœurs mais l'argent ne va jamais réellement au pays. Il est plutôt utilisé par nos grosses corporations pour construire des projets d'infrastructure dans ce pays. Centrales énergétiques, parcs industriels, ports... Des choses qui profitent à quelques personnes riches de ce pays, en plus de nos propres corporations, mais certainement pas à la majorité des gens du tout. Dans tous les cas, les gens, l'ensemble du pays conserve une dette énorme. C'est tellement une grosse dette qu'ils ne peuvent payer, et ça fait parti du plan... Ils ne peuvent pas la rembourser!

NEW YORK - U.S. crude oil futures prices rose sharply on Tuesday, pushing above $90 a barrel for the first time in 26 months as cold weather boosting fuel demand and the dollar's weakness kept oil lifted . .
Oil will advance to $120 a barrel before the end of 2012 as consumption grows in emerging economies, according to JPMorgan Chase & Co.
The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, which is responsible for about 40 percent of global supplies, is unlikely to increase production in the first half of next year unless prices surge through $100 a barrel, the bank said in a report today. Futures traded around $87 a barrel in New York today, near their highest price in two years.

Bloomberg -- The trustee liquidating Bernard Madoff’s former investment firm SUED JPMorgan Chase & Co. for $6.4 billion over claims the bank aided and abetted FRAUD.
Bank of Ireland customers are being affected by a technical fault, which is disrupting access to the bank's telephone and online services.
There is also a restricted cash service at the bank's ATMs.

Bank of Ireland confirms that an unforeseen technical issue has impacted some of our operating systems this morning and our telephone and online banking services are currently unavailable. However, all branches are open and operating as normal but with a temporary restricted cash service.
FRENCH ministers and bankers have issued warnings that an appeal by Eric Cantona, the former Manchester United footballer, for people to withdraw all their money from banks could propel France into economic chaos.

It is already in chaos, because a private central bank issuing the public currency at interest is a pyramid scheme that eventually must collapse. The chaos we see is not the fault of the people, who have an inherent right to withdraw their money from the banks any time they wish. A printing problem with the new high-tech $100 bills has forced government printers to shut down production - and to quarantine more than one billion of the notes.
The flawed notes represent more than ten per cent of the U.S. currently on the entire planet.
The Federal Reserve released a stunning report showing the details of bailouts that occurred during the peak of the credit crisis. They won’t call it “bailouts” but giving money when others won’t is exactly that. What the report shows is that the Fed operated as a global pawnshop taking in practically anything the banks had for collateral. What is even more disturbing is that the Federal Reserve did not enact any punitive charges to these borrowers so you had banks like Goldman Sachs utilizing the crisis to siphon off cheap collateral.

That isn't "cheap collateral" the Fed is buying from the foreign banks. The Fed is being forced to buy back all those fraudulent mortgage-backed securities Wall Street Peddled across the globe a few years back. That is WHY the Federal Reserve kept secret who was getting all that cash until the change in law forced them to make the list public.
Under orders from Congress, the Federal Reserve finally had to tell Americans, that they gave a whopping nine trillion dollars in short term loans to eighteen different financial institutions during the peak of the financial crisis. AlterNet's Zach Carter breaks down these new findings.
One may be forgiven to believe that via its FX liquidity swap lines the Fed only bailed out foreign Central Banks, which in turn took the money and funded their own banks. It turns out that is only half the story: we now know the Fed also acted in a secondary bail out capacity, providing over $350 billion in short term funding exclusively to 35 foreign banks, of which the biggest beneficiaries were UBS, Dexia and BNP. Since the funding provided was in the form of ultra-short maturity commercial paper it was essentially equivalent to cash funding. In other words, between October 27, 2008 and August 6, 2009, the Fed spent $350 billion in taxpayer funds to save 35 foreign banks.

Deutsche Bank, a German lender, has sold the Fed more than $290 billion worth of mortgage securities, Fed data through July shows. Credit Suisse, a Swiss bank, sold the Fed more than $287 billion in mortgage bonds.
The data had previously been secret. It was released Wednesday per the recently-enacted law overhauling the federal financial regulation. The Fed, ferociously backed by the Obama administration, fought lawmakers' desire for full disclosure throughout the financial reform debate.

This is what appears to be surfacing.
As detailed in"Bankers Hone Wild", mortgages were cranked out by unscrupulous mortgage brokers, then resold into mortgage-backed-securities, which were in turn re-sold to investors as triple-A investments, even though the bundles included sub-prime mortgages already defaulting as US jobs were shipped overseas.
Worse, we now know that individual mortgages were pledged to multiple MBS bundles, which is illegal!
What appears to have happened is that the European banks realized that the American investment firms selling those mortgage-backed securities were engaging in fraud! Greenspan has admitted to such.
Obviously, the European banks are never going to sit still for fraud, even from Wall Street, even from the USA! No doubt the European banks demanded a refund on those fraudulent investment packages. No doubt the Wall Street mortgage fraudsters refused, suggesting that the bankers of Europe dump their losses on their populations just as the American banks were being forced to do. That some European banks did so explains why so many European nations are in financial trouble, with Iceland just one example. Howebver, the larger European banks may have decided to "get tough" with the Americans, and this may explain the mysterious electronic run on the US financial system in February 2009, which almost crashed the US economy. Strangely, the American people were never informed who had executed the financial transfers, even though obviously this is recorded in the transactions on the computer systems.
This "attack" may have been a warning from the European main banks to the US to make good on the bad investments, or risk full public exposure for the mortgage backed securities fraud!
Soon after, we learned that the Federal Reserve was handing out trillions and trillions of dollars, loans which the American people are expected to repay, only the Federal Reserve refused to say who was getting the money, and even implied that exposure of the recipients of these trillions of dollars might pose a threat to the US economy. Now, nearly two years later, we find out that the Federal; Reserve was buying back the mortgage-backed securities from European banks including Deutsche Bank and Credit Suiss.
In other words, the American people were looted to make good on the fraud perpetrated by Wall Street not only against American financial institutions, but bankers in the Eurozone as well.
The Wall Street Fraudsters should have gone to jail. But they walk free and clear, heading into a wonderful holiday with record-setting bonuses to spend while ordinary Americans have been made jobless, homeless, and hungry to keep the criminals out of prison.
The Mortgage Backed Securities fraud is the biggest fraud in the history of the United States, and as today's revelations make clear, we still do not know the full scale of the financial rape this nation has suffered.
Today, the private Federal Reserve was forced to reveal that they loaned upwards of 9 trillion dollars to major financial institutions in emergency overnight loans. These loans were done in complete secret, used to “save” the economy, which had slip into a deep staged economic depression.
Most of the money has been paid back, yet the interest rates that these major institutions received were near ZERO. That’s right, The Federal Reserve bailed out their partners on Wall Street at near zero interests rates while everyday American citizens have been continually blasted by high interests rates around every corner.
The United States would be ready to support the extension of the European Financial Stability Facility via an extra commitment of money from the International Monetary Fund, a U.S. official told Reuters on Wednesday.

The EU is in trouble because like the US they are enslaved in the grip of a private central bank issuing the public currency at interest.
The EU banks are in trouble because like Wall Street they have gone on a gambling binge with derivatives. And the US Government is looting the American people to prop up the bankers of Europe.
The State of Illinois is still paying off billions in bills that it got from schools and social service providers last year. Arizona recently stopped paying for certain organ transplants for people in its Medicaid program. States are releasing prisoners early, more to cut expenses than to reward good behavior. And in Newark, the city laid off 13 percent of its police officers last week.
While next year could be even worse, there are bigger, longer-term risks, financial analysts say. Their fear is that even when the economy recovers, the shortfalls will not disappear, because many state and local governments have so much debt — several trillion dollars’ worth, with much of it off the books and largely hidden from view — that it could overwhelm them in the next few years.

These developments, coupled with millions cut off from any kind of unemployment benefits, creates the "perfect storm" for massive civil unrest in this country, possibly starting early next year.
Prudent people are preparing now for just such a potential scenario, and are making sure that they are as ready for such a contingency as possible, having food, potable water, and medical supplies on hand for such an emergency.
Rest assured that the Federal Government is certainly getting ready for such an eventuality.

The delicately balanced global climate talks in Cancún suffered a serious setback last night when Japan categorically stated its opposition to extending the Kyoto protocol – the binding international treaty that commits most of the world's richest countries to making emission cuts.

TOKYO - This month, Japan's Self Defense Forces will hold their first-ever island defense exercise in concert with the United States military in Japan. The exercise, which will take place at a base in Kyushu, will simulate the retaking of one of Japan's small East China Sea islands from "hostile" forces that seized the island and installed anti-aircraft missiles. Ships from the US Seventh Fleet, including the aircraft carrier USS George Washington will take part.
Examination of an atlas helps explain the importance of simulation exercises on the retaking of any of these islands. Stretching more than 1,600 kilometers from the southern tip of Kyushu through Okinawa and almost as far as Taiwan, is a string of islands that are all Japanese, although one small group off tothe side, called the Senkaku by the Japanese, is also claimed by China.

The U.S. army is to begin using a futuristic rifle that fires radio-controlled 'smart' bullets in Afghanistan for the first time, it has emerged.
The XM25 rifle uses bullets that be programmed to explode when they have travelled a set distance, allowing enemies to be targeted no matter where they are hiding.
The rifle also has a range of 2,300 feet making it possible to hit target which are well out of the reach of conventional rifles.
The XM25 is being developed specially for the U.S. army and will be deployed with troops from later this month, it was revealed today.
The weapon's laser finder would work out how far away the enemy was and then the U.S. soldier would add one metre using a button near the trigger. When fired, the explosive round would carry exactly one metre past the wall and explode with the force of a hand grenade above the Taliban fighter.
China is taking another great leap forward in its Latin American energy plans, raising Cuba's energy importance in the process, with a deal to lead a $6 billion refinery expansion project on the communist island, experts said this week.

2. It would end US sovereignty over its own food supply by insisting on compliance with the WTO, thus threatening national security. It would end the Uruguay Round Agreement Act of 1994, which put US sovereignty and US law under perfect protection. Instead, S 510 says:

It would allow the government, under Maritime Law, to define the introduction of any food into commerce (even direct sales between individuals) as smuggling into “the United States.” Since under that law, the US is a corporate entity and not a location, “entry of food into the US” covers food produced anywhere within the land mass of this country and “entering into” it by virtue of being produced.
4. It imposes Codex Alimentarius on the US, a global system of control over food. It allows the United Nations (UN), World Health Organization (WHO), UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and the WTO to take control of every food on earth and remove access to natural food supplements. Its bizarre history and its expected impact in limiting access to adequate nutrition (while mandating GM food, GM animals, pesticides, hormones, irradiation of food, etc.) threatens all safe and organic food and health itself, since the world knows now it needs vitamins to survive, not just to treat illnesses.

6. It includes NAIS, an animal traceability program that threatens all small farmers and ranchers raising animals. The UN is participating through the WHO, FAO, WTO, and World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) in allowing mass slaughter of even heritage breeds of animals and without proof of disease. Biodiversity in farm animals is being wiped out to substitute genetically engineered animals on which corporations hold patents. Animal diseases can be falsely declared. S 510 includes the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), despite its corrupt involvement in the H1N1 scandal, which is now said to have been concocted by the corporations.
7. It extends a failed and destructive HACCP to all food, thus threatening to do to all local food production and farming what HACCP did to meat production - put it in corporate hands and worsen food safety.
8. It deconstructs what is left of the American economy. It takes agriculture and food, which are the cornerstone of all economies, out of the hands of the citizenry, and puts them under the total control of multinational corporations influencing the UN, WHO, FAO and WTO, with HHS, and CDC, acting as agents, with Homeland Security as the enforcer. The chance to rebuild the economy based on farming, ranching, gardens, food production, natural health, and all the jobs, tools and connected occupations would be eliminated.
9. It would allow the government to mandate antibiotics, hormones, slaughterhouse waste, pesticides and GMOs. This would industrialize every farm in the US, eliminate local organic farming, greatly increase global warming from increased use of oil-based products and long-distance delivery of foods, and make food even more unsafe. The five items listed — the Five Pillars of Food Safety — are precisely the items in the food supply which are the primary source of its danger.
10. It uses food crimes as the entry into police state power and control. The bill postpones defining all the regulations to be imposed; postpones defining crimes to be punished, postpones defining penalties to be applied. It removes fundamental constitutional protections from all citizens in the country, making them subject to a corporate tribunal with unlimited power and penalties, and without judicial review. It is (similar to C-6 in Canada) the end of Rule of Law in the US.

(NaturalNews) The City of New York recently launched a new emergency services pilot program that seems more like something out of a science fiction movie than a real-life initiative. According to a recent New York Times report, the city has begun deploying two emergency ambulances in response to 911 calls -- one to try to save the lives of those involved, and the other to harvest their vital organs should the rescue efforts fail or be deemed likely to fail.
And city officials insist that the whole procedure is perfectly ethical because the first rescue vehicle is unaware that the second one is there until a supervisor decides to stop the rescue efforts and make the announcement, which allegedly eliminates the possibility that rescuers will purposely allow a victim to die in order to gain access to the valuable organs.
Federal law enforcement agencies have been tracking Americans in real-time using credit cards, loyalty cards and travel reservations without getting a court order, a new document released under a government sunshine request shows.
The document, obtained by security researcher Christopher Soghoian, explains how so-called “Hotwatch” orders allow for real-time tracking of individuals in a criminal investigation via credit card companies, rental car agencies, calling cards, and even grocery store loyalty programs. The revelation sheds a little more light on the Justice Department’s increasing power and willingness to surveil Americans with little to no judicial or Congressional oversight.
All drivers face random drink and drug tests under new powers being requested by the police.
Chief constables have asked ministers to change the law to give officers “a power to randomly check any driver”.
The request from the Association of Chief Police Officers has emerged as ministers draw up new rules on driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
Some police forces already use checkpoints to stop and check drivers, but police chiefs want to be able to go much further.
More than 230 Walmart stores nationwide launched the “If You See Something, Say Something” campaign today, with a total of 588 Walmart stores in 27 states joining in the coming weeks. Last week’s release of 900 pages of U.S. government documents dealing with the implementation of the nation’s primary surveillance law suggests that the government has been systematically violating the privacy rights of U.S. citizens.
How many citizens is unclear, since the documents were extensively redacted. The previously secret internal documents were obtained through a court battle by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).

Speaking today at the Jewish Federations of North America meeting, US Vice President Joe Biden vowed eternal support for the Israeli government, insisting US support for the nation would continue no matter what Israel does “forever.”
“The ties between our two countries are literally unbreakable” insisted Biden, adding that policy disagreements with the far-right government will never be “fundamental” and will never have any affect on ties. Biden insists President Obama “feels exactly the same way.”
Vice President Joe Biden forcefully reaffirmed U.S. support for Israel during a speech Sunday before the general assembly of a major Jewish organization, telling the audience that "the ties between our two countries are literally unbreakable."
If Prime Minister Stephen Harper had the oratorical style of a Barack Obama, the nuanced elegance of a Pierre Trudeau, or the fire of a John Diefenbaker, his speech last week on anti-Semitism and Israel would be put on a pedestal.
It was blunt, it was courageous, and it stood tall and unflinching in its condemnation of the “new anti-Semistism” now sweeping the world, as well as the growing hatred of Israel as it rightfully fights for its continued survival.
All Harper’s speech lacked — and remember, it was vitally important because it was addressed to 150 parliamentarians from 50 countries seeking answers to quell such hatred against both Jews and Israel — was the delivery of a master of the podium.
His words, however, were masterful words, and Canadians should be proud of their PM.
But not so proud of Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff.

The prime minister delivered a strongly worded warning about the resurgence of anti-Semitism in Canada and abroad. He said the persecution of Jews is becoming a global phenomenon in which anti-Semitic ideologies target the Jewish people in their “homeland” of Israel and uses the “language of human rights to do so.”
